    it really helps with fertility.

I'm taking it because it helps balance hormones. My acne cleared up completely and my other hormone related symptoms have disappeared.

    I'm not taking BCPs though.

For those who are not afraid of bigger butts, having babies or growing horns.

I recommend getting the Maca Root in powder form...as I posted in the oils thread you can better control your dosage this way and you get a better value for your money.

I first learned about MACA on BHM. Alot of women there was taking it along with something else (I forget the name of it) to assist in weight gain. Alot of them also claimed an increase: in the butt area and sexual desire. And its suppose to balance your hormones.

I bought MACA in the pill form from the Vitamin Shoppe, when I was asking for it the cashier was looking at me like I was crazy when I said it was for weight gain because the bottle says Enhances fertiliy and desire .

It did increase my appetite so I did gain some weight and as for the butt I'm assuming it did grow some because both my BF and some family members commented on it looking bigger then my usual flat self .

I dont recall feeling energetic and it does taste gross you cant think about it when your trying to swallow .

I stopped taking it some months back because it was making me physically sick- nauseas, which could be because I wasnt always following instructions , cause your suppose to take it with food and I didnt always do that . I guess I will return to it just to finish up the bottle.

    I'm ordering this brand:
    http://www.shamansmarket.com/-strse-...zed/Detail.bok

Its actually from Peru and NOT toasted, like most of the maca on the market is now a days..so it has most of the nutrients intact.
I hear if your going to take it for a longer period of time, you should take some iodine either from seaweed or in pill form (Iodoral)

This looks like it's from the city in Peru where I did my study abroad. *sigh* Memories!

I may have to try this one. Let me know how well it works for you. Also, since it's more potent, do you take less?

I'm not sure. I think I will just start with a 1/4 tablespoon and take it by how I am feeling.

Here is a recipe for maca ice cream

    1/2c cashews
    1/3c agave
1 vanilla pod, insides scraped out
    3c almond milk
    3T maca root powder
    2t lemon juice
    Pinch salt

    • Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth.

    • Pour into an ice-cream maker. Alternatively you can pour into a container and place in the freezer to set hard. Once it’s frozen, cut into chunks and run through a juicer with the blank homogenising plate on. This gets rid of any ice crystals that may have formed.

I am having great success with the maca from shaman's market that i posted about earlier. My skin is clearing up and I have more "constant energy" if that makes sense. It tastes great too. Like nuts in powdered form. I just put a tablespoon in some chocolate milk every morning.

Interesting! I'm glad that I found this thread! I will look into purchasing some for myself to see if that helps me, instead of drinking all the coffee that I drink now.

    What is maca?

Peruvian Maca Root is a root vegetable that has grown wild high in the Andes mountain ranges of Peru for thousands of years. It has been called "Peruvian Ginseng", "Peruvian Viagra", "A Miracle Product", and "The 21st Century Food". Maca has become very popular because of it's ability to support healthy sexual function.

There are other benefits and attributes that are also well known such as it's ability to make people more energetic, stronger and have more endurance, and the ability to make them feel better emotionally.

The Peruvian Maca Root is in the same family as the radish and turnip. That would explain why it looks very similar to them. It come in a variety of different colors ranging from white to black and purple.

It grows at an altitude of 14,000 feet above sea level withstanding the climate and conditions that are very extreme, such as freezing cold, intense sunlight and strong winds. As you might know these conditions are not exactly ideal for growing vegetation. This means that the maca root has the honor of being the highest growing food plant in the world.

Learn more about the benefits of Maca on Clayton South's Health Facts.

    What's so special about it?

Scientific research has found that maca is amazingly rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals. It has an abundance of trace minerals, some of which have not even been classified by scientists yet.

Maca is so rich with nutrition and energy and life giving ingredients, some claim that it could be the most beneficial supplement for you to take. It is almost like a once a day multi-vitamin. So much so, that if you weren't taking a multi-vitamin, but you were supplementing maca, you wouldn't be missing many of the essential nutrients from your diet.

One of the great benefits of this amazing little root is that it can help regulate, support, and balance the hormonal systems of both men and women. It is not gender specific and works equally well for both genders.

Even though maca is not in the ginseng family, it is an adaptogen. You do need realize that adaptogens work gradually and not instantly. They need to be continually used to receive the full benefits they offer.

How much should be taken? Are there any side effects?

One thing to remember is that maca is a food, and is not used in tiny quantities. A lot of capsules contain 500 milligrams of the ground, dried maca powder. At this concentration, some recommend taking three to six capsules daily.

One thing you must remember is that maca is not a drug and should be continually used. Using it for a short period of time may not give you the best results. It is recommended that you consistently use maca at a minimum of six to ten 500 milligram capsules per day, which is equal to 3,000 to 5,000 milligrams.

MacaPure is a standardized concentrated extract and its use has different recommendations. The companies that sell MacaPure suggest taking one 450 milligram capsule twice daily, which equals 900 milligrams.

To an extent, the more maca or maca extract you consume, the more benefits you will receive. Keep in mind, too much of anything is not good for you. Studies have been done that showed no toxicity and no adverse pharmacological effects from maca.

With maca, you can have a safe, effective, and nontoxic way to significantly support a healthy sexual function, without the hazards or side effects of prescription drugs.
