Ok, so now that Im on this healthy hair care journey, Ive learned alot about protein. I went out and bought a huge bottle of the the Aphogee 2 min and have used it a couple of times. Idk if its just me but every time I use it, even after I DC with heat, my hair still feels like straw, I dont like it. Now I know that most people reccomend that relaxed hair needs a hardcore protein treatment every 6-8 weeks, Im scared to do it, cause if just the 2 min made my hair not feel good, than Im scared to think about what the hardcore Aphogee will do. Idk any advice is appreciated, are they're any relaxed ladies that just do the mild protein treatments and still have long healthy hair?

After you rinse it out, do you use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards? If not, try it. It should help. I only use Aphogee 2-Min weekly on my wash day for exactly 2 minutes. It should NOT be used longer than 5 minutes.

I use AO GPB and if I try to DC with it my hair feels like straw so I've never attempted hard core protein... maybe I'll try it after my next relaxer, maybe.

So my answer is yes, you can have long healty hair while only using a mild protein.

He!!z to the no! I do not use any protein on my hair! That last time I used a protein treatment, it broke off my hair very badly. Currently, I am DCing with regular conditioners; I'm even DCing with my absolutley favorite cheapie, Suave Coconut. My hair is thriving. Do what is best for YOUR hair, gurlie. Happy Growing!

Yep I use it for 2-3 mins and I always follow it with my DC Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. I DC with a heating cap for 1hr

I don't use it as often as I should but I do use the Keratin and green tea protien spray weekly

Yep I'm the same way. Maybe that's why my hair isn't liking the aphogee so much? I have the CHI keratin mist and use that like every week, my hair loves it though

I've never done a hard protein treatment. i had the aphogee 2min and was using it every 6 to 8 weeks (i deep conditioned after evert time) but i didnt like how it made my hair feel so i cut it out of my regime completely, this was mmmoooonnnnnnntttthhhsssss ago. I think i stopped using it back in May.

For months now Ive been washing my hair weekly with PM super strong daily shampoo and my hair is the strongest its ever been. Ive only done one mild protein treatment since I cut out Aphogee, and that was only to prep my hair for my touch up and i used PM Super Strong Treatment, which my hair loved.

i dont think I'll ever do a hard protein treatment, imagining the protein overload and hard hair scares! lol (what can i say, i'm a punk :))

I think you should only use hardcore protein if your hair is really damaged from color or overprocessing. Also if you are experiencing moisture overload. Other than that, if your balance is fine, there is no reason to upset it.

I don't use hardcore proteins at all. I was just PM'ing with another member about this issue. I've survived two stretches w/o adding any extra proteins. I do use 100% AVJ on my NG via an app bottle, from my understanding it acts like a protein.

I am going to venture out of my comfort shell and try adding Aphogee 2 min (a mild) to my reggie and see what I think.

I think you should listen to your hair, it could be it doesn't need or like hardcore proteins. Or maybe it's the product and you could try another.

I don't use the hard core proteins at all. Since I started doing prepoos with coconut oil, I don't really need protein conditioners at all. I now just use the 2 min Aphogee protein treatment during the process of relaxing my hair and that's pretty much it.

I'm relaxed. Last year, I used the 2 min weekly, I must have gone close to eight or nine months without using the two step hard protein and my hair was still doing great. So, I don't put myself on a schedule with the hard protien. I just give myself a treatment whenever I see a lot of breakage and to prep my hair for heat or touch ups.

I believe you can use a mild protein weekly (only) and still get great results.

I use a hard core protein the week before my relaxer which Is the Aphogee 2 step. I also use Nexxus Emergencee monthly. Every week I DC with a moisturizing conditioner. Weekly I use CHI Keratin mist or Aphogee Green Tea, with Aphogee Leave in conditioner. Different Heads Different needs, my hair loves all that it receives. :)

Last year I used Aphogee 2 minute weekly LOVED IT and still do just wanted to try something new!

Bottom line if it doesn't work for you and your sure about it, leave it alone. Ladies who don't like protein send your protein products my way :D

I alternate between Aphogee 2min and Silk Elements Mayonnaise and I dont believe either one of those products are hardcore protein treatments. I keep the Aphogee in for maybe about 5 to 10min with heat then I rinse. I normally keep the S.E. Mayo in for about 15min with heat and my hair has responded very well to these methods.

Yea I think that's what I'm gonna do to, just use it b4 the neutralizing step when I relax and let that be the only time I use it. I mean it def did strengthen my hair but it almost made it like "too strong" u know. I def will need that strength when I relax so I'll save it until then

I don't use hardcore protein treatments. I have used Nexxus Emergencee, Aphogee 2 Minute, Aphogee 2 Step, and GVP Reconstructor. And I did not notice a difference in the condition of my hair. I have recently fallen for Pantene Relaxed And Natural Breakage Defense Mask (in the jar.) I love this stuff! All shedding and stray hairs have ceased!

I only use hardcore protein a week before I relax, which is technically twice a year. I use light/medium proteins throughout the remainder of the year which seems to work for me - my hair is much stronger! With light proteins it's a slow process, you will (or should) notice a difference over a period of time.

I think if you're using a light protein regularly you shouldn't really need to be using a hardcore protein all the time imo.

I don't use hardcore proteins at all. The strongest protein product I use is Nexxus Keraphix and I use that around relaxer time. I do use CHI keratin spray when I am post 8 weeks and soon after relaxing, but the hardcore proteins did nothing for my hair but make it hard.

What she says:grin: IMO relaxed hair NEEDS protien the relaxer process strips the protien from the hair try a (thick)moisturizing conditioner mixed with a honey (tbls) and a little oil(tbs) :lick:

I don't use a hardcore protein.

- I prepoo with AO GPB weekly which is a very light protein with moisturizing properties
- Once a month and before my relaxer I'll use Elucence Extended Moisture Repair, which is a medium protein with moisturizing properties as well
- I use a reconstructor (Mizani Renew Strength Reconstructing Gelee) my first wash after a relaxer

I started my journey about a yr ago and my hair was above my ears, I tried a hard protein and it was not pretty at all. My hair doesn't need hard protein.

I usually do a protein conditioner after i rinse the relaxer out BUT before i use the neutralizing conditioner the hair cuticle is open the most at this point then leave on for two to three min the rinse then neutralize them do a moisturizing conditioner with heat or for 30 min to 1 hr your hair will be straight but not limp like it can sometimes be after a relaxer.

you can also pree poo by cracking an egg and a little oil in a cheap conditioner a like aussie moist or herbal essences then apply for one hour NO HEAT or you will have scrambled eggs in your head:nono:

I'll never mess with that hardcore stuff, especially now that I'm over PJism. I've read too many posts about having to be sooo careful and watching your hair like a hawk while a product like Aphogee Two Step is sitting on your hair. The closest I get to a protein "treatment" is DCing with Motions Silk Protein Conditioner which I do overnight, no heat, once a week. It's the only protein conditioner in my arsenal and from what I've read here it's considered a light protein. My other conditioners (Kenra, Motions Moisture Plus, V05 Strawberries for cowashing) are moisturizing and my hair is thriving.

I use a mild or moderate protein at least every week. My favourite is Aphogee 2 minute which I follow up with a moisturising DC like Humecto. I also like ORS Hair mayo ORS Replenishing Pak but I find that I don't need a moisturising DC after those.

If you don't like aphogee maybe you should try another brand. Yes brand does matter, different brands use their protein differently and they have different formulas. You can't say your hair doesn''t "like" protein and you've only tried aphogee. Joico K Pak reconstruct conditioner is awesome.

You only leave it in for 1 minute in the shower but you should also follow it up with moisture. It's a light reconstructor. Their deep penetrating reconstructor comes in a smaller tube.
This works way better for me than aphogee ever did.

I agree with the Ladies.

The "Strongest" or "Heaviest" Protein I have in my Arsenal is Nexxus Emergencee (which is actually more like a polymeric reconstructor instead of an actual protein).:yep:

My hair was weak and severely damaged from overprocessing, overlapping, doubleprocessing etc....so I tend to use a light/medium reconstructor weekly to help restore my Hair, as My Hair Dictates.:look:

I use something like: Joico K-Pak, Sebastian Penetraitt, Tigi Dumb Blonde as a Mid-Step after relaxing and before neutralizing.

I do use the Nexxus Emergencee a week prior to relaxing and sometimes a week or two afterwards.

Any reconstructive or protein treatment, is Always followed up with a Moisturizing Treatment.:yep:

I am relaxed and have never used HARDCORE protein. However, I do use mild protein once a week. My wash days are Wednesday and Saturday. In my regimen, Wednesday's are always protein days, and Saturday's are always moisture days. This has been working just great for my hair.

Additionally, I pre-poo with Coconut oil (WED) and Amla Oil (SAT), and this also keeps my hair strands very strong. I do not have excessive shedding or breakage (....unless I'm on a looonnnnggg stretch...:wallbash:), and my hair is quite strong.

I rotate my proteins between Aphogee (mixed with AO-GPB), RedkenExtreme (mixed with AO-GPB), and Mizani Renew Strength (mixed with AO-GPB). With these products I get my ceramides, keratins, lipids, cysteines, and whatever other strengthen agents they contain. My hair is really in great shape. Just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting on LENGHT!!:wallbash:

For me, there's no need for the HARDCORE stuff..

To the bolded, that is exactly what I use as well. I don't fool with the Aphogee 2 step. I don't like the way it makes my hair feel. It is like it sucks every last drop of moisture out of my hair, and even after I dc with my most yummy conditioner my hair is not right. I never get that with the Emergencee. Every week I use Ion Repair Solutions Reconstructor, and Fibergurad Sustanance conditioner as well as moisturizing conditioners.
