THE BRAID IT UP 2011 CHALLENGE -anyone?

Checking in. Still in the braids.

I heard an interesting interview with Kimmytube. She has a theory about people that are more comfortable in protective styles. She compared introverts (like protective styles) to extroverts (like to play with hair). She also said that she is no psychologist. I did have to give a thoughtful 'mmmm' to her theory

That is interesting. I took the Myers-Briggs test four times, and I always came out as an introvert - even though I feel like I am an extrovert. But I wear my hair in protective styles 99% of the time.

I don't think I can agree with this theory. I wear protective styles year around and I am definitely an extrovert.

Got kinky twists put in yesterday. I took a month off from the braids, and I was glad I did because I was able to try new products and found some that I really like. I will keep these in for about 8 weeks as usual. This is my second install for the year.

Hey ladies, haven't checked in for 2 months now. I took out the crochet braids (didn't like the hair) and got nubian twists. Now I'm out of the twists and getting ready for another set of crochets. LOL I love my crochet braids

Hey ladies! Just checking in, I finally made up my mind and decided to get a sew in last friday. I won't set any expectations for how long it will last since I get bored with styles easily.

I hope twists still count in the braid it up challenge. I am changing all my braids to twists because I was getting bored with the braids. This is also to try out some CD's products I just got in the mail.

I'm pissed because I just paid good $$$ for Senegalese twist and they already look a ham! That's what I get for being cheap, you get what you pay for. I sought after someone who would do them much cheaper than the African shops I go to here and I regret it. About to take them down now and then............ I guess I'll be paying a real profoessional to do them again.

This picture is from early May 2010.

Yeah, I said I wouldn't do it again, but I'm back in box braids. The braiding experience itself left much to be desired.. Even after I interviewed the braider ahead of time, she was waaay to rough with my hair. And since retention is my goal, I hope that my ends are ok once I remove the braids...

If anyone knows of a good braider in the Houston area pleeeease,,, perty please let me know !!!

Okay, so the twists, while they look good, are not going to work for me. I could not go as long as I thought without putting water on my hair. When I did try to wash my twists . . . well lets just say SHRINKAGE. Therefore, tomorrow, I will be turning my twists back to braids until July 4. For the July 4th weekend, I will be participating in Fros for the 4th by wearing a twist out.

Today completes 4 weeks with these box braids. I am dying to take them out. I just received some new products that I want to try (Enso naturals, miss jessie's, shea moisture). On top of that, I really miss my fro...so its becoming really hard for me to keep these braids in...but i'm trying. I have some new growth and my braids are fuzzy but I'm still hanging in there. Week 5, here I come.

So, i cut all my hair off. I haphazardly got a relaxer back in 2010 and it just messed my hair up, rather than continue to fight with relaxed hair, I chopped it all off and am starting over. Anyone get braids with short, short hair? I do wanna finish this challenge.

Update: Mini-twists that I did myself! Im going to try to keep them until August. When August hits, it will be hair cornrowed into a bun with a phony pony!

I was feenin' for my loose hair so I took my box braids out a few days ago.

I wore my hair out for one whole day...and then I was tired of it. The thrill is gone. So now I'm in Goddess braids pulled into a low bun until...whenever.

I refuse to get my hair wet because I know the frizzies will make an entrance so I will be oiling it up....I've got 5 bottles of oil I need to go through. I think I'll start with Qhemet's Castor & Moringa Softening Serum.

Tis all

I don't know if I said it already but I fell off the wagon and am not going to get back on. I'm working with a stylist to get my hair healthy again. I wrecked it last summer and it will not happen again. Which means less braiding right now.
Good Luck Ladies!

That is how I get once I've had my braids in for a minute too. And just like you, after wearing my hair out for a day, I miss the ease of the braids so much that I decide to put them right back in. There is nothing like waking up, taking off my bonnet, throwing my hair in a holder and walking out the door.

I have senegalese twists right and I don't know when I will take them out. Like Evallusion I too will only oil my hair cos of the frizzies making an appearance

Bump!

How’s everyone doing with their hair?

I’m still braiding/wigging it, it’s become second nature for me.
For the few times I’ve worn my hair ‘out’ I quickly went back to my half-wigs, with this extreme southern heat it makes me more ‘hair lazy’ lol. I love the ease of just braiding my hair up and slapping on a wig before I leave the house. I may switch it up later on this summer with twists (no extensions) not sure.

Well i've not had my hair out of braids since my last post.( went out one night unplait my hair wore a curly fro, plait it back up the next day). Been going out with it in a high bun for "nice" occasions. Made the decision to keep it braided/twisted for real real( no cheat days).

My daily regimen currently is co-wash daily(getting rid of all the conditioners I have lying around that i have used once), apply aloe, some condish and seal with an oil mix of hemp, coconut and castor oil.

Wednesday i'm going to do mini twist, and see how they hold up under the daily wetting of co-washes.

I've grown back the hair I cut off at the end of May(1/2 inch) and got a little extra. So progress is good.

Hope everyone is still growing strong!
