Washing all the products out hair

Hello Ladies...

I have a problem with getting my hair completely clean. No matter how much I rinse there is always product left in my hair. After a DC and washing that out, the lady at the salon says there is still oil in my hair. I wash and condition before I go to get my hair done, because I think I can do it better, but now I'm second guessing myself.

My final rinse is always cold water is there any way to know that the product is completely out of my hair after washing?

Try rinsing DC out with warm water, then do the cold water rinse as final step. The cold water will leave product behind, so if thats all your rinsing with that is probably the reason. If you do that ACV rinse, be sure to dilute properly (may need to research good ratios)

Agree with the 2 previous posters. Rinse well with warm water, then you can rinse with cool/cold if you like.

somtimes you have acutually lift your hair to allow the water to get in every spot on your head ,my hair is thick so if dont lift it up and part it with my finger when rinsing , i wont get everything out. i alway give my scalp a good massage, making sure im using enough shampoo to break down any oil and product build up that might be there.

I ought to elaborate on why I said an ACV rinse. I do one with every wash and have come to expect my hair to feel a certain way once I pour the diluted ACV on my hair...if my hair isn't properly clean there is a difference in the feel. I started adding a combination of oils to my hair as a pre poo and that's when I noticed the difference in the feel of my hair after the ACV rinse and without fail there would be buildup once my hair was dry. I stopped the oil combo (granted I do still use oils but it's under a steamer and I've changed the oils) and the 'feel' I was looking for returned.

Maybe a diluted ACV rinse could help.

Okay so just like an bottle of water with 1 or 2 spoons of Apple cider vinegar and I use it after my wash how long do I let it stay on my hair? And then I rinse with cold water too?

Yes I believe the problem is not enough warm water I try to wash and clean in sections because my hair is thick. When I'm done I believe my hair is clean but once someone flat irons they say there is something in my hair.

Try combing the shampoo / conditioner through your hair before each rinse. Baking soda and ACV rinses always have my hair squeeky clean.

What kind of products do you put on your hair daily?

OP, do you use a clarifying shampoo as part of your regimen? I clarify 2x a month on average.

I also agree with rinsing with warm water. I know cool rinsing is some sort of hair standard, but my hair does better with a warm rinse.

I's going to start using the 4 sections method to wash and clean my hair. My daily products are oils like JBCO, Tree Tea Oil, and Peppermint Oil.

How does baking soda work? I reserached ACV rinses.

sunnieb

I want my washing process to be less time consuming. But I do clarify one a month. I then DC and I add oils to that, rinse that out co-wash with Suave, rinse that out then use Nexxus Humectress conditioner and rinse with cold water.

Am I suppose to clarify after my DC? Because I heard that after you clarify it leaves your hair dry, so DC after.

ms.tatiana - I clarify before my dc. Here are the steps I do:

1. wash with Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo (your hair will feel stripped and kind of dry - just means the shampoo did its job)
2. wash with Nexxus Therrappe shampoo (I do this to put the softness back in my hair. I know it's already clean, but I don't like the dry feeling)
3. dc with Nexxus Humectress.
4. airdry

My hair is as soft as ever once I'm finished.

Yes thats what I do, and I leave it in. The smell goes away as it dries.

I do almost the same as sunnieb except my step 2 is an oil rinse w/ sunflower oil and my step three is a different product. OP what if you increased clarifying to 2x a month?

^^^the purpose of cold rinsing is to close the cuticle. so you would warm water rinse to help the conditioner to penetrate and to release remaining dirt etc then cold water rinse as a final step to close the cuticle and prepare hair for product and after wash regi.

my hair is softer and smoother after every wash now that i started cold water rinsing. don't stop doing it, just move it to the final step of your routine.

Also I don't know if it's been said but try letting the warm water run through your hair for about 1 or 2 mins before you start washing... I do my dc before I shampoo so I won't have build up otherwise it will be there. Separate your hair in sections letting the water moisturize each one and massage. Then start washing. After that I follow with 50/50 acv. I don't put anything but a light leave in on my hair for detangling after rinsing out the acv to reduce build up. Also do you have a shower filter? That may be the issue I say that because hard water (you may have it and not know) can leave a film and cause you to not fully cleanse as well as filtered water. I always notice a difference when my filter is out and it's time for a new one.

My hair stylist hates to do my hair with products in it :look:

So do you think I'm adding to much product to my hair by doing a DC, then a co-wash, and the using the nexxus? I'm trying to cut down my hair process and I think I'm doing to much?

DayDreamist

I usually wear weaves so I keep them in for 6 weeks take them down and do the whole clarify, DC, co-wash, and then nexxus conditioner all together. I then leave my hair down 2 weeks and before I go into another weave I just do a protein treatment, DC, co-wash and nexxus condition.

Can I clarify and do a protein treatment together? Can I clarify my hair in a weave?

nzeee

That's why I started using cold water because of the information I learned but I never rinsed with warm water before so maybe that will help alot.

silenttullip

I used to DC before my shampoo but everyone said that putting a DC on dirty hair wasn't right because I sit under a dryer for my DC's. I dont have a filter but my sink water isn't the cleanest and I believe that could also be a problem, I never thought about that I might need to buy a hair water thingy like they use at the shop (great advice)

I believe you can clarify in a weave as long as you can easily DC in the weave too. I personally don't want to ever clarify w/o Dcing. I'm not that knowledgeable about taking care of a sewin because I can't keep one in longer than a week and a half lol. So really I can't say for sure through personal experience.

I guess I can youtube that, because I have the Carson Soft Sheen weave care products which is a shampoo and a conditioner, so I mean I could clarify, then shampoo, then condition just so the products don't build up huh?

I think that's too much product. You don't want your hair to get weighed down. Just clarify and do a moisturizing dc. That should be enough. :yep:

I find myself cosigning with sunnieb alot in this thread lol but I thought the same thing. I don't wanna knock what works for you but at least give clarifying and DCing only a chance. You may like the results better. Also try longer DCs, I love to overnight DC.

I think the bolded is the problem, water and conditioner won't get rid of oil. You either need to oil your hair before you shampoo it or don't use oil in the wash process. In my experience, even when you shampoo the oil out a slight film of oil remains on your hair, but it tends to be absorbed by the time your hair is dry.

Okay I see I am doing a little to much with the products so after this weave I will just do clarify, DC (with no oils), and then co-wash rinse out with warm water first then use cold.

Sheena

I get what your saying, because my hair is usually oily after the co-wash and just water. So just skip the oils in my DC.

A hand held shower head. Seriously. It helps you get closer to your scalp, especially in the back.

@ms.tatiana, rinsing with cold water doesn't close the cuticle; only a drop in pH does. All cold water does is leave some of the product in your hair and when people say their hair feels differently if they don't rinse with cold water, it's coz for some reason, there hair does better when some conditioner is left behind. Rinsing with warm water gets the part of conditioner that is supposed to be rinsed out off, but conditioners are meant to leave behind a coating on your hair as well as internal moisture so as long as you're not using scalding hot water, then warm water should serve you well. I always use warm water for the entire wash and my hair is so soft that I don't even feel a need to use a leave-in. (I'm 4B natural.) I usually rinse my conditioner till there's no more frothing when I squeeze my hair. I don't know if you comb your hair as water runs through it (undo the plait, comb through, redo the plait) but that would help you get a cleaner rinse. I also agree with the ACV rinse. I use a very dilute solution (1/4 cup ACV to 2 gallons of water) because a strong ACV solution can break your hair down.

A little OT but I love @sunnieb's regimen.

You know of any websites with cheap hand held shower head???

Nonie

So leave the cold water rinse alone all together? And too much ACV can break hair out ughhh now I'm scared to use it. I like I will just change what I do, sunnieb's wash and DC sound good to me. I'll try that the next time.

ms.tatiana, I personally would give up cold water altogether, even if just to see if it makes a difference.

ACV is good for closing cuticles and making hair strands smooth. My argument is even a drop changes the pH of your water by making it more acidic, so err on the side of caution by using a little. It has to be very concentrated to damage your hair. I remember people using 1:3 solution ACV to water. That, too me, is too strong and might've been why they hated how their hair felt after using it at such a high concentration.

Okay I will give the ACV rinse a try, because I think my lack of cleaning my hair and having products build up isn't helping my growing process.
