Does anyone else have bad (like super bad) dandruff? I started seeing a new dermatologist because of it, she perscribed me so Loprox, but it says wash 3x per week! I don't want to dry my hair out, but can't have this crazy dandruff either.

Any suggestions??

Co-washing stopped my dandruff completely. Your scalp is really in need of moisture! Do you DC frequently?

Your dermatologist is right, you have to use the shampoo 3 times a week (in the beginning) because "dandruff" is actually a fungal infection. Just follow with a great DC. So to completely clear it out, you have to wash your hair, or rather your scalp, until it clears, then later on you can shampoo once a week or use a tea tree oil.

Very important: change your pillow cases, hair scarves, and wash your combs with dandruff shampoo every time you shampoo.

You'll be sooooo glad once the dandruff is under control, you won't be patting your head or scratching in public looking under your finger nails and scraping it out.

Kinda. I had gotten it under control, but started wearing quick weaves A LOT. I would try not to keep them in for more than six weeks at a time. Before that I was at least co-washing once per week. Anyway, I noticed that while I was doing quick weaves my scalp started being really different.....I think the spritz was drying it out in addition to it being up for so long. The last one I did (approx 6 weeks ago) rubbed my edges out in the front. So I have been trying to wait until my edges grow back before I do another.

I noticed I only have this problem on the front 1/3 of my head. Would it just take longer to clear up if I used the shampoo less frequently??

I use to have huge flakes seemed like seborrheic dermatitis (from my own research). What stopped it was rubbing oil on my scalp (usually hot EVOO treatment) before my wash. After about 3 washes it was gone- never to come back. It would only slightly reappear when I got lazy, but I don't anymore since it's routine now. Though I haven't done it with warmed oil in probably a year my flakes are still nonexistent. I tried all sorts of dandruff shampoo's growing up with no or inconsistent results and dry hair. Hope I could help.

I think that is what I have! I have been rubbing tea tree oil on it for about 2 weeks prolly every other day. But I have only been washing once per week. I will try warming the oil and maybe up the washing?

I have SD & have prescription shampoo (ketoconazole). They also gave me ketoconazole pills to take orally to get this latest flare under control. The keto shampoo didn't help that much, but the Selsun Blue Medicated Menthol did :yep: I used that poo 3 days in a row & it really helped! It can be drying, but a suggestion I got from LHCF was to put conditioner & oil on my hair before washing my scalp with the prescription shampoo...it worked miracles :yep: My hair wasn't dried out & my flare is under control :yay: No more whitish-yellow greasy flakes SMH Now I'm going to use my prescription shampoo 1x for maintenance. I am also in the sulfur challenge & women with SD swear by it for keeping them flare-free! I'll be using it 3-4/wk  HTH

I hope your derm's suggestion works if not try chagrin valley or giovanni triple treat shampoo and conditioner. For me derms suggestions (4 to be exact never worked) so then I went to natural products & cowashing

Neem oil over night on the scalp. Whole head baggy and wrap the plasric bag with like 3 scarves.

Wash/ DC in the morning.

I just started doing this 1-2 times a week and it has been awesome!

Neem is stinky though. Like grilled garlic and onions :/

Hey, I was wondering for those who suffer from Seborrheic dermatitis, does relaxer use cause any extra problems or issues ?
