I used to be anemic as a child but then I stopped taking the iron pills and none of the doctors in my checkup have been saying that i'm still anemic, so I'm not sure. Is this something the doctor just tells you or do you have to do a specific test for this? I thought a normal blood test would tell you

I dont think theres such a thing as a slow grower...Just hair that breaks faster than it grows....

according to studies of human hair growth rate, there HAS to be such thing as a slow grower if the AVERAGE growth rate of human hair is 1/2" per month...that means that there are people who grow hair faster than 1/2" per month and people who grow hair SLOWER than 1/2" per month.

being a slow grower is different than saying my hair is not growing :yep:

in 2006, my doctor took blood test b/c I was tired & sleeping way too much. I don't know if it was a normal blood test or not but I was diagnosed w/ hemogloblin c trait which caused me to be anemic. I was taking iron pills but I hated them now I take floradix liquid iron & I really fell the difference in my energy. I have to get test done to see if it is under control. I used to think that my hair growth was slow but I never had problems retaining length so I would like to see if this would help w/ mygrowth.

All of you ladies who say you are slow growers, do you have healthy diets and exercise regularly?

I'm a healthy slow grower. I exercise, have a good diet. I'm not anemic, I take vitamins etc etc etc. However I will say that taking hair nail and skin vitamins does speed up my growth the smallest bit. Not a huge amount but it's noticeable to me.

My hair just grows slowly. It did when I was a child and it still does now that I'm an adult. I was slow to reach my full adult height, I was actually undersized as a kid. My body is just slow I guess.

It used to bug me but now I don't care. My hair is strong and healthy so it's all good. I'm gonna keep growin slowly but steadily.

I get 1/4 an inch per month but my diet isn't good. I'm working on it.

The only time I got an extra growth spurt was when I went to Miami. The humidity there gave me a growth spurt. When i came back home, everyone kept telling me how much it grew.

Reading this thread has definitely given me some ideas on how to boost my growth rate and my overall health. I'll be keeping up on my multivitamins (it has iron) and exercising more. Let's see what happens in the next couple months.

bumping.... I knew my hair grew slow but by looking at my pics from last Aug to now I have only gotten like 3.5 inches of growth. I only trim every 6mths and that is usually less than 1/2 inch. I am gonna start trying to eat more healthy. I have started taking a multivitamin for about 1-2mths

I'm going back to a liquid multi and iron supplements. My hair did much better when I took a liquid multi.

I think it's for people who are still pretty much around the same length they have been since they got here, keeping in mind that they have been incorporating what they have learned here.

Like if someone has been NL all their life and then get here and they get maybe to the collarbone but it seem like it took like 2 years to do that OR that's as far as they gotten :nono:

That's slow growth!

 you are SOOOO talking about me!

YUP, ie. You aren't retaining what you grow, or much of what you grow. Can be several different reasons....most common ( outside of medical issues ) poor handling, over manipulating/rough handling of hair........:nono:

Of course there is such a thing as slow growers. Nobody says that there's no such thing as fast growers, so why wouldn't the opposite be true? Of course retention is also an issue but to say 'oh you're just not taking care of your hair right" especially to women who have been here for years and know what works for their hair is borderline insulting. Of course if you have been at the same length for 3 years that isn't slow growth, thats a retention issue. But just like some people get 1/2-1 inch a month, some people get 1/4th or even lower. It is what it is.

I was questioning whether I belong in here and after just seeing someone who surpassed what I did in 1.5 years in 6 months - yep, this is home for me. I will know for sure around April. Will I make SL? We will see.

I am also a slow grower! I'm also anemic! I'm making it a goal 2 take my iron pills everyday and also take my biotin! I need 2 get another check up 2 see if I need 2 continue taking iron pills 3x a day! Before I knew I was anemic my hair would grow fast and then it started breaking a lot! Which was due 2 iron and not knowing how 2 take care of my hair.

I think we could just continue this topic into the new year. What are we doing this year ladies to help with our growth?

If we decide to make a challenge we can def. make a new topic. Would u guys like to do a challenge? I know I'm already doing protective styling but would others like to do so along with posting a regimen???

I'm a slow grower! Not sure if it's due to nutritional deficiency or what, but we'll see this year.

I'm tweaking my regimen for the umpteenth time with supplements.

I was diagnosed as borderline anemic so I'm taking iron supplements. Once a day.

I'm also taking MSM, Biotin, B-100, Calcium, and Fish oil. I haven't been completely consistent, but it's becoming more of a habit.

I also have fine hair so I'm doing more protein treatments. I hesitated doing them in the winter since I had a setback and I also was trying to get moisture in due to the dry/cold air, but that's going to change too.

I hope I can retain.

How is your hair doing?

Slow grower over here! Trying to actually figure out what it is because I've always been a fast grower! I've been off some medication since about May so that may be out of my system now... but I also ignored the fact that I'm what my dr says, 'slightly anemic'. I wasn't consistent with the iron. So now I have some iron and I'm just going to see what difference it'll make.

bump.... i just realized im a slow grower too. I calculated that i get 0.3 of an inch every month. Which makes sense since ive only gained about 4 inches this year, 3 in other places.
Im slightly anemic and been on iron since october, hopefully my growth picks up

I'm definitely a slow grower. I get about 4 inches a year. I'll be 3 years natural in March with about 10" at the most in some places. That makes my growth rate about 1/3" per month. :ohwell: I measure from the root, using my color so I know it's not a retention issue. I guess slow and steady wins the race. My diet is alright and I supplement with vitamins, calcium, and fish oil.

I'm going to back-to-back protective style so I can hopefully make BSL by the end of 2012.

I'm definitely a slow grower and not a good retainer either, I think. I BC'd in February 2011 and still not at full SL yet. I'm going to be doing LadyPaniolo's Deep Moisture Method for a year or so. I hope to be APL by Dec 2012 at this rate.

im trying to figure out a way to increase my growth by a simple 0.2 a month. If i manage to do that ill get my 0.5 a month and get my 6 inches by June. I just dont know how to pick it up.
Ive using Megatek since the beginning of July
15,000 mcg of biotin since the end of july
frequent cowashes
im a little lazy with water, but i try
i take my multi vitamins
But im still getting my steady 0.3 a month and its frustrating. I just want 0.2 more.... thats not too much to ask for
