It's not just relaxers. Those of you that shampoo, co-wash, "pop the curls", etc aren't safe.
Chemicals that are found in common black hair care products like shampoos, conditioners, detanglers, and of course, relaxers. The chemicals are referred to as Estrogen and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals, or EDC’s. EDC’s are believed to be linked to reproductive effects and birth defects, breast cancer, heart disease, cognitive disorders, premature puberty and altered immune function (so far). The article listed a few of these EDC’s:
Sodium Hydroxide (Lye relaxers)
Calcium Hydroxide (No Lye relaxers)
Diazolidinyl
Urea
DMDM
Hydantoin
Propylene Glycol
Diethanolamine
Monoethanolamine
Triethanolamine
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Hydroquinone Colorants and Synthetic Colors labeled as D&C and/or FD&C

Check your ingredients. Those that relax may do so once every two months. Many of these products are used daily! Just trying to be "helpful".
