I'm posting two pictures of my locs that I found interesting.

The 1st is of my sisterlocks at about 10 months with permed ends.
The 2nd is of them now at almost 2.5 years. I've recovered most of the length.

What I found interesting is that I started my SL (SL) journey with mostly permed ends which for almost a year I babied. At about a year life got in the way and I "let them be" (neglect) and lost a lot of length; once I realized the damaged I started meticulously caring for my ends again.

The 2nd picture has 1 loose lock that shows the recovered length and the neatness of the lock's circumference.

If nothing else I hope this shows that 1). You can maintain a head full of tiny locs; 2). bunning and ponytails won't necessarily pull your locks out; 3). With care you can maintain the lenght of your permed hair as you transition from Relaxed hair to locks

Loc'd up and loving it!
Today makes EXACTLY one month since I began my locs. Tomorrow I'm going for my first retwist. Just wanted to share some pictures of the journey so far. I'm starting with two strand twists and the roots are interlocked.

The day I got my twists................

One month later.............

BUMP !!

I'm a week or so shy of being 6 months loc'd!

I did a wash and retwist myself this weekend, and it was much easier than the last time I tried! My updo didn't work out, so I opted for a braid-out. It came out nicely. I used some foam wrap lotion, so I'm hoping the crinkles will hold until my next wash.

Happily on my way to DIY-land with my locs!!

I think i'm gonna 2 strand twist and just go with the flow:lachen:

Ooh a loc thread!
I started mine as braids in 2008, and love them. They started off small, and I've had to combine a lot. My hair is thick, and it's starting to look like a lion's mane.

I latch with a hairpin. It takes ages, but I don't really like other people handling my hair so I space it out over a few a week while watching a season of something. (it does take me a season to do my whole head :look:)
I usually wear it down or an updo.

Upkeep... I'll be honest, I don't do much. I wash with Dr B's, condition with a regular conditioner and add olive oil. That's it. If I'm honest a deep condition would be a good thing, but...

What I started with

I did 2 strand twists this past weekend using darcy botanicals madagascar creme. My method will be washing once or twice a week and using no futher product! Just good ol fashion water. I shed alot so my hair locks pretty easily. I plan on retwisting before washing so that my hair keeps its shape until I have some good locking in place.

Starter pics post wash/air dry:

I've been leaving my son's locs alone and letting them form naturally but today I decided to twist them. I used ecostyler gel. Is this good to twist with or should I use something else or nothing at all?

Ecostyler is ok for me. I use it as a backup only. For the most part, I've been using Queen Helene (the pink one) but very little. Less is more for me. Very light oil and that's it.

I have experimented with a few other products as well. Whatever you do, don't use beeswax, honey or shea butter... most butters. It's heavy and sticks to the hair. (well most are)

Hi! Now that I've read and stalked this whole thread... I'm ready to post!

I started my loc journey on 25 Jul 12  with small twists. I've been natural for 4 years and I was looking for a change. I'm kinda lazy with hair but I think the locs will give my fine hair character. I plan to use the palm roll method or either twisting at the roots with Jamaican Mango Lime loc gel.

Thanks OP for starting this...it's so hard to find loc information in just one place.

Use conditioner regularly if they're mature. Twisting and rolling puts stress on the hair and causes locks to thin out or break if you don't keep them in good condition. You want a light weight conditioner that rinses clean.

Hey fellow loc stars! Sooo... I've decided to do a little experimenting on my hair. I decided to color my locs. That's right color. I take really good care of my locs and figure that I can handle the color to!

Anyway.. the look that I was going for is golden bronze/black. Most people like to color their tips black; however, I like the look in reverse.. so my tips are black and the rest of my hair will be golden bronze. The more it grows in the more you'll see the color.

Yes, this will mean me coloring my hair every 6wks but I'm ok with that as look as I do not double process. I'm only applying to the new growth.

I've received compliments on my hair so far and well umm you can see for yourself. The following pics are just my hair washed/con/and palm rolled with another new product (Fabulocs loc binding butter).

Fabulocs loc binding butter review - so far, I like it. Although this products contain some products not recommended for use, I still decided to try it (west african shea butter, beeswax, olive oil, blackseed, chamomile, grapefruit, petitgrain, patchouli, rosemary, lavender, myrrh, sage, carrot seed, and ylang ylang essential oils.) The smell isn't all that great at first, but it does settle down. I plan on using it a few more times... so I'll keep you all posted.

Now here are the pics!

I plan on taking the twist out on Thursday, so I'll make sure to take some pics then!

See y'all!

I'm starting to feel a bit bleh. Maybe because I had natural hair for so long, this straight look feels boring. I've worn it curly, but I swim a lot so it doesn't stay in for long.

My daughter has starter locs (since May?) so I will be keeping an eye on this thread. I'll share pics too whenever I actually remember to take some. They were started as 2-strand twists and the back is pretty much loc'ed up, but the (looser) front is not. I can't wait until they are fully matured, but they look good already.

I was thinking about this thread today. My hair is finally starting to loc. Will post some pics after my next retwist.
