SHEDDING help!

My hair has been dry, matting so easily and falling out with just a touch. I detangled this morning and tonight I detangled while conditioning. This is the hair I got from ONE detangling sessions only hours after I already combed my hair.

To me, I don't think that looks bad. Hair is going to shed. As long as its not shedding more than 100-120 hairs a day. For the most part you want shedding and not breakage. Have you been experiencing any breakage? For me, during the summer, my hair sheds more.

As far as you hair being dry, what is your current reggie? Do you DC? Are you relax or natural?

I had an excessive-shedding episode 3 yrs ago (so bad you could see my scalp!)

I added black-tea rinsing to my wash-day regimen. And regularly used Alter Ego garlic conditioner. To this day, I haven't had another episode.

I pour the black-tea over my hair and scalp, give it a little massage and then apply my regular conditioner before steaming for 30 minutes.

I use the AE DC on my scalp, regular conditioner on my hair and steam for 30 minutes. I've also just added garlic powder to my DC and steamed.

I believe consistent use of black-tea rinses and once a month garlic/cond has eliminated any seasonal, stress-related shedding I had in the past.

There are excellent threads/challenge about black-tea rinsing. Different teas and recipes are listed in the threads.

If you want to get started today, buy some regular Lipton black-tea from the grocery store. I use Earl Grey black tea.

It's the postpartum shed, but it's nowhere near as bad as mine was. There are things you can do like Alter Ego Garlic DC, Garlic Shampoo, Black Tea Rinses, keep your hair in an easy PS, keep your moisture high....but just know that you're going to lose hair no matter what you do. But it does grow back! I went bald in 1/11, and today I'm almost APL.

Do you typically not shed at all? Have you been in a protective style?

Honestly I shed 3x that much normally.

I have already very thin hair so thats a lot of hair for me. I usually shed maybe 1/3 that much. It came out with just a light touch. I think ill add a garlic conditioner. I plan to find some ps that I canleave in for a few weeks... Maybe a weave. My hair has been so dry that I'm scare to style it. I dc but my hair just ends up dry 12 hours later. I think I have high porosity hair. I don't have any breakage (maybe a little) its hair coming from the root that's my problem.

I am experiencing postpartum shedding as well. It's driving me insane. I think this is one of those things that will have to run its course. I used Dudley's DRC 28 protein treatment last Sunday and I have seen a slight improvement.

That shedding is coming from your beautiful son! The other people have given good advice, but I heard that that postpartum shedding can last for three months before going back to normal.

Yea, that's the postpartum shed. Don't weave it...you need to be able to get to your hair, and moisturize it Often. Just focus on keeping your moisture high, and your manipulation Low. Do Not Cut Your Hair...it will all grow back.
