My reveal!
I finished my dash to the APL challenge finish line!!! My comparison picture was taken 12/29/2011 and my reveal photo was taken 12/27/2012, I think I did pretty good seeing as 2012 I trimmed at least 2 inches away to even outta hemline and cut away older, less healthy ends.

I have my regimen down to a T, I only use staple products now and I own all professional grade equipment, I'm finally on my way to long hair granted God is willing and no setbacks.

First pic: Dec 2011 relaxer. I was sick & unhealthy & my hair suffered.
Second pic: Dec 2012 relaxer. I lost weight, exercise regularly & cut 6 inches off in 2 sessions.

Wow, ladies!
First of all, I'm noticing a trend.. note to self: Get your butt in the gym!!

Secondly, I'm soo proud of all of the self-proclaimed slow growers in here showing out!

Here's my lil contribution:

Most valuable to my retention- KISSing and low manipulationi

Challenges- Playing in my hair too much

Changes- More PSing in 2013. I've been playing in my hair way too much. Back to my wigs.

Advice- Stick with what works

Pix-

December 2011

December 2012

What can I say? I got lazy. SMH

Back on the grind next year though :)

NJoy

Here I grow again!
Can't really compare but, I'll post a comparison pic anyway. I transitioned for 17 months and BC'd on 9/18/12.

I prepared to flat iron for my starting pics but, why? I haven't used heat in 6 months and don't want to do anything to mess up my curl pattern, which I LOVE, btw. :drunk: Not to mention I'm too lazy to take the time. :look: So, a stretched length check will have to do for now.

Anywho, my year end pic is 3 months post-BC and 20 months of natural hair. I LOVE IT!!

@NJoy

So you have only 20 months growth in that last pic? That's amazing progress!

MzSwift

Your hair looks a good 4-5 inches longer to me. Great progress!

***PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE***

Last Year

I was pretty deep into my transition and at my wits end with trying to still manage my relaxed ends. I was over 70 weeks into my transition so my natural texture was dominant. I trimmed some of the thin ends here, but about a month or so after this I just went ahead and BC'd.

March-May 2012 (not sure which month)

Fully natural and enjoying it. This was my first "mastered" twistout lol

December 2012

I should have taken pics of my flatironed hair freshly done, but I don't really do hair pics often so it just didn't cross my mind. As you can see my hair is reverting, but I think it still illustrates nicely the difference in my Relaxed/Transitioning hair this time last year and my progress thus far. I'll be one year fully natural next month!

<<<<< 2012 Recap: I was newly natural, so really used 2012 to learn about my hair, find products and techniques that worked and had serious HIH syndrome .

<<<<< 2013 Plans: I think I have a good understanding of my hair at this point, so I'm hoping for even more progress. I will be PSing *a lot* more. My PS of choice will be box braids using extensions, will be getting some installed next month.

Identify your 2012 progress. (length, edges, thickness, etc.)
In the back, I went from BSB with my longest layer to MBL. In the front, I went from a little below CL to APL. My hair has always been thick so I maintained that. I'm still working on my edges, but they have made some progress.

What thing(s) do you feel contributed the MOST to your progress?
long term protective styles

What challenges did you participate in during 2012?
many

What's your key word of advice for strong, healthy hair?
Patience-- Be patient and it will grow.

Is there anything you'll change in 2013?
Instead of most of the year in twists [9 months], I will spend that same amount of 2013 in mini braids. I will increase my cowashes to 3x per week during the warmer months.
The first 2 pictures are from December 2011, and the second 2 are current.

I've gained length (not as much as I'd planned) and thickness.

I really enjoyed going through the 2011 End Of Year Reveal and would love it if we had one for 2012. I think seeing the results of hard work will motivate those of us who are new to the site, new to the Journey or about to call it quits. Sooo....What do you say? I know I definitely need motivation. :drunk:

Last year's thread.

Post copied and pasted:
Anyone interested in posting their 2012 end-of-year reveal in one place to INSPIRE us all for 2013?

No matter what product, technique or Challenge you used in 2012, we can post them all here with details.
(Of course, still post in your challenge thread.)

Inspire all of us no matter hair type or if we're relaxed, natural, transitioning, loc'd, etc.

Your pic does not have to only be a difference in length.
It can be ANYTHING that you've made progress on, i.e., thickness, edges, hemline, breakage, shedding...anything that's progress and that you feel will help the next person.

Please post your pics in Dec 2012 or Jan 2013 (or later if you forget as long as it's your 2012 pics!) Starting pic and ending pic would be nice, but if not, then definitely an ending pic. And let us know the info below.

Identify your 2012 progress. (length, edges, thickness, etc.)

Not really excited about reaching goals except growing my natural hair so it'd be at least as long as it was before my BC in '07. Having done that, additional growth has been more than I could ever have imagined. It's never been below midback with BSL my adult average.

What thing(s) do you feel contributed the MOST to your progress?

Low and gentle manipulation. No bandwagons. No product junky-ism but will try something new once in a while but always stick to basics. Consistency in products, technique and patience, patience, patience!!

What challenges did you participate in during 2012? None.

What's your key word of advice for strong, healthy hair? *See first answer

Is there anything you'll change in 2013? No.

So proud of you ladies for making such marvelous progress!!!! Beautiful, wonderful, inspiring awesomeness!!!!

May 2013 be just as good or better for all of you!!

Here's my 2012 progress if you can call it that. Most of the time it all looks the same since I'm mostly in textured styles like twists, plaits, twist/braid outs or just big poofy blowouts. When I do straighten, I can really see what's been up on the sidelines . My hair is almost entirely one length all around except for the upper crown and the very bottom of my nape (which will probably never be 100% even). I don't take much progress pics, it's basically maintenance-mode these days and the ones I do take are really difficult do well without help.

So I gathered up some pics starting in May through the end of December. Hope they get the LHCF seal of approval :p

MAY, 2012 - Shows uneven growth (Not Breakage or damage) and typical. No major cutting only S&D and continue to grow out.

JUNE, 2012 - Apologies!!!! for the conditioner splattered mirror showing blowdried hair, in the process of putting in 4 big twists.

AUGUST, 2012 (ETA typical summer style)

SEPTEMBER, 2012 - blow dried, loose hair.

SEPTEMBER, 2012 Still showing some uneven growth but steadily filling in.

NOVEMBER, 2012 - lightly straightened, had a bunch of hairs reaching TBL but wanted to trim everything for general evenness for the new year.

DECEMBER 29, 2012 - a couple typical quickie hairstyles from December and straightened pics. Got rid of my grays with Natural Black with Miss Clariol:lachen:. More apologies for ***** straight hair pic.

There is still a tiny layer left in the upper crown area so the plan, as plans go, is to keep the lower layers even and at their present length and grow the upper crown another 1-2 inches longer. No change in regimen it's been working since May, 07 and if it ain't broke............

Identify your 2012 progress. (length, edges, thickness, etc.)

I gained length. Probably about 6 inches.

What thing(s) do you feel contributed the MOST to your progress?

I stopped relaxing my hair, before it was overprocessed and breaking, and I kept it in a bun for the better part of the year.

What challenges did you participate in during 2012?

I was in a steaming challenge and WL 2013 but I didn't keep up to well :ohwell:

What's your key word of advice for strong, healthy hair?

Do what works for YOU.

Is there anything you'll change in 2013?

I want to wear my hair out more often so that I can enjoy it.

March 2011 My last hair cut and relaxer

January 2012 6 months after the start of my hair journey

December 2012 My hair today

ETA: Blame the shirt on DH

What did I achieve?
I spent another year transitioning, but I did add the length I needed before cutting the relaxed ends. About 27 strands reached Waistlength :lachen:

What contributed most to my progress?
Protective styling by way of buns was easiest for me. Co-washed 2x/week and rinsed after each co-wash with ACV. I haven't deep conditioned for many months and my hair is just as soft/manageable without all the extras...

Challenges?
Joined a few but got too lazy to do anything other than co-washing.

Advice?
Co-wash, straighten when you get tired of curly hair and BUNS, BUNS, BUNS!!!

December 2011:

December 2012:

Curly:

Even when straight, I wore buns or braided styles:

Sometimes I blowdried and braided:

Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 1/2 year transition...

BIG CHOP COMING ON NEW YEAR'S DAY :yay:

Teach me, O' Master of beautiful styles! Explanation, tutorial, anything! I love this!

Oh, and I look forward to your chop. After 3 1/2 years, you should only have to chop that little piece that you're stretching past WL. Congrats on a successful transition!

Here is my update. Not much of a difference, but I'm happy.

December 2011

Today

I also need a trim but it will have to wait for a few days. And in the second pic my rollerset is starting to fall. First pic was flat iron.

I have mixed feelings about my hair. On the one hand, I managed to gain a little length. On the other hand, I lost volume due to shedding like a goat. I'm off to hair rehab.

This is from around January 2012:

The attached pics are now. I've managed to gain some length while losing volume to shedding.

Stop playing zero-sum games with me, hair!
