Twist/Braid/Bun For Growth Challenge 4/1/13 - 6/30/13

Did another set of twists last night/today. Took six hours, but came out nice. I really want to keep these for a few weeks since I spent so much time on them. faithVA suggested rolling my ends when I wash so I'll try that and see if it keeps my ends from tangling. Funny that my twists don't look any different now than they did when I was BSL.

I have been so hair lazy... Anyway, I'm still here. DCing once a week and keeping it simple. Wearing buns or pony tails.

I have kept my hair in two flat twists all week and decided to let my hair be free this weekend. It's a lot of work! I thought that if I slept on my silk pillow case I wouldn't have to twist and tie my hair up. Wrong! It was mat city in my hair! At least my hair was still soft. I'm going to put small two-strand twists in my hair tonight, so it last a couple of weeks.

I am going to let the finger coils go. The second set I did not like :nono: So I am switching over to flat twists. I haven't done them in a while so they look a little rough but as I do them weekly they will look better.

So I will keep these in until I can switch to 2 strand twists in a month or two.

My new set of twists with braided roots. I will keep them in until May 11th, so I can twist them out for my son's college graduation. Go Tar Heels!

I totally forgot to add my pic! The first pic is mini twists done on blown out hair. The second is straight out of the shower with no product. The third is a view of the front. I'm currently APL...maybe a little past that. :-/

2. What is your style maintenance regimen? Very simple: clarify, wash, dc with oils, and twists or buns.
3. Are you natural, relaxed, transitioning? Natural
4. What do you hope to achieve from the challenge? Retention and health
5. After wearing your hair out will you restyle after [Pick One] 2 days or 3 days? Not sure yet.
6. Include Starting Pic ASAP. (You will not be named an official challenger without one). Done.

The pics were posting out of order but they're back up. I never wrap them in the true sense (too binding). I do a bun (no pins) or just twirl the hair like I'm starting a bun and throw a scarf on.

I LOVE the ease of wearing my hair in twists. But my twists don't last more than 3 days, they always end up looking so frizzy :-(.

Sosa, I feel the same way and I usually have the same problem as you do. But this time around it looks like I will have lasted for two weeks this coming Sunday. I was hoping for 3-4 weeks but I'll take 2 weeks over 2-3 days any time.. :)

I am not in this challenge because I wear braids 100% of the time. I love the look of twists and i found out I did not do them correctly as to why they came out so easily and looked so messy after a day or two. I am experimenting after doing my microtwist as per Natually185 I think her name is on Youtube. I only did my front fringe area to experiment. They have been in for over a week and I washed them last night so i will see. But here is the problem i have come here to ask. While my hair is braided it still twists. I think I have braided it as tight as possible. I rebraid weekly to detangle. If not for the twisting I would hardly have any tangles. Do any of you use ECo styler products on your braids? Do you think that would help hold my hair in place while in braids and prevent the twisting? Its my number one cause of tangles then breakage. Any suggestions.

My twists are holding up nicely. I've been keeping my ends sealed. Haven't washed yet, will probably do that this weekend. I love how low maintenance they are.

Hey guys. I've had my mini twists for a week and a day so i wouldn't have to mess with my hair during finals but right now my scalp feels really sore and kinda dry. I didn't put them in tight or anything. Should I just take them out and wash my hair?

@Vintagecoilylocks When I braid my hair, I usually apply a whipped crisco mix before braiding it. I think a butter would work just as well. I have very little tangling when I braid. I don't put gel on my hair unless I am planning a braidout.

And you can also be in this challenge wearing braids 100% of the time. You don't ever have to wear your hair out. :)

Igotstripes Do you part your hair before you twist or do you grab random pieces and twist? I grab random pieces and sometimes have that issue because I have grabbed a piece that was maybe too far away from the section I was twisting and it creates tension. I'd take them down. No reason to have a sore head.

I wore my flat twists from Tuesday until today. They looked meh but they made it. DCing now. I am going to try to do 4 large flat twists. If that works out it will be my go to style. If not I will be back at the drawing board.

I did part but it could still be that. im also suspecting it could be the bobby pins im using. i ended up leaving them in though due to a last minute freak out about my first exam tomorrow lol.

That flat twist style was a no go. So going to do a flat twist out tomorrow and then flat twist it up tomorrow night when I have more time. I just need two flat twist styles to start with to alternate. Need to do some internet searching tomorrow for some styles.

I'm still twisting and bunning, but my styles aren't lasting more than two days, so I'm restyling more frequently. Any tips on getting hairstyles to last longer? TIA

Im in a bun now. Im missing my straight hair a little bit, but I know buns are better for length retention. SO BUN IT IS!

I don't think its bad. If you go to the shop most likely they will blow it out anyway. To prep my hair i do a protein n deep condish a week before then again the day or so before. not sure if we can post links to our blogs but pm me, cause i wrote a whole post about my preparation.
