Pre-Poo Through 2013 Challenge

I did a treatment on Tuesday. I used the last end of my EVCO tub. It was quite a bit. I just planned to finish it off and go on to the next container. I only used BFH yarrow and hibiscus, an NG herbal to cowash as well. I had an almond oil rinse and a DC with coffee on the bottom and DB pumpkin and AOHSR on top along with some WGO. I steamed for about an hour. I rinsed with some conditioner premix and honey hemp. Then ACV and a tea rinse to complete. I finished it off with some coconut cream butter by MD. Then GHE. On Thursday prior to my cowash I took the braids down. My ends had converted to silk instead of dry hay. I could not figure out what I had done to make this change. It's like the ends were not my hair. I have had coconut oil prepoo's before. I am not sure what I did. I am joining this challenge to test the hypothesis.:crossfingers:

Rozlewis, Last question , have you tried their Cocoveda Oil? If so, how was it? What does it smell like? Earthy and herbally? Looks like a pricier version of Vatika Oil, but w/o the BHT.

MileHighDiva, no problem on the questions. I am a PJ so yes I do have the Cocoveda Hair Oil from Henna Sooq. Problem is since I am a PJ I have not used it yet. It is in my stash. I try to stick with one product and use it before I move on to the others. I plan to try this after my touch-up with will be toward the end of August. sorry I would not help. Maybe someone else has actually used the product. if not, I will report back after I have used it for a while.

MileHighDiva, sorry for the typos. I was trying to say that I will try this product after I use up the other one that I am currently using. I am currently using some products from Komaza that I have been dying to use. I wish I could have been more helpful but I will review the product after I use it which will be around the end of August.

Change of plan. Instead of my regular oil mix, I'm going to pre-poo with my deep conditioner instead. Will wash in the morning.

Currently pre-poo'ing with Silicon Mix... Just got out of the chlorine and needed something to sit on my hair while I finish cleaning and making Sunday dinner.

My hair loves EVCO as a pre-poo, for me the smell is tolerable because of the excellent results. However, DS doesn't like the smell and he's not shy about it. He can't believe that I'm have been using it, because I have serious smell sensitivities.

So Ladies, the hunt for an effective pre-poo with penetrating oil(s) that smells great has been on and crakalakin'.

First up, Silk Dreams Pre. I Love it and it smells awesome like caramel. However, it's $7.00 for 2 oz. I can't justify paying that much! Remember I'm heavy handed. I went through two jars in four washes. So, for right now it's a treat that I allow myself, if adding it to the order is the difference between getting free shipping or not. I rather pay $7.00 for SD Pre vs. $7.95 for shipping.

I ordered two bottles of Vatika Oil from Amazon. So far, I've only used it once. The smell is better than plain EVCO. It has several other herbs i.e. amla, brahmi, hibiscus, henna, etc. In addition, it has TBHQ (t-butyl hydroquinone), which is a masking agent. It's rated low risk on cosmeticdatabase.com. However the two bottles I received have BHT as a masking agent and it's rated 6/moderate in the database. I'm :perplexed about this discrepancy.

The Hairveda Vatika Frosting smells like white cake frosting :lick:. Remember, my hair loves some EVCO. This is a home run due to the inclusion of hair fall reducing herbs amla and henna :yep:. In addition, it has lemon and fragrance. So, my search should be over right. Wrong! I lucked out and only paid $6.10 each for the two jars I bought, during a recent sale. The problem is Hairveda doesn't have Amazon Prime, so I paid a total of $19.15 with the S&H charges. Not too shabby, but would I pay $10.99 + S&H of $6.95 when I run out and there's no sale going on :nono: Remember, I can get a 14-16 oz jar of EVCO on the ground or on Amazon for way less than $17.94. Plus it's only 9 oz.

I went on a field trip today to four of the Indian/Halal grocery stores. The goal was to see what their prices would be on certain items vs the interwebs.
Mz.MoMo5235 states, in India the ladies only use Parachute EVCO. I found some dirt cheap, I'm talkin' $9.99 for a liter and $5.99 for 16.90 oz :yep: I decided let me look at this Parachute Jasmine Oil. That stuff is 80% mineral oil and 20% EVCO with jasmine extract. :ohwell: I'll stick to the plain one like the Indian ladies or Vatika Oil.

I'll be lovin' the Hairveda Vatika Frosting till I run out.

Ladies, I'm sorry this post is so long.

P.S. I think sometime next year I'll experiment with the Parachute EVCO and trying to find a fragrance that compliments it etc., or telling DS to kick rocks,

MileHighDiva... It wasn't lengthy at all to me. Great read. Good luck on your quest. My hair too loves Coconut Oil to prepoo. I use HQS Coconut Lime Oil (in strawberry and pineapple). It works wonders for a pre-shampoo treatment. Either alone or with a conditioner.

Mz.MoMo5235, thanks for reiterating that. When I saw the 80% mineral oil in that Jasmine one, I was like :nono: But, you know I had to play inspector gadget on my field trip,. TopShelf Yes, she highly recommends the blue bottle, which can be used for cooking. It has the best pricing per oz, you can get a liter for $9.99 at your local Indian grocer. I don't remember the price for the gallon, but the 16.90 oz bottle was $5.99. I rather pay the extra $4 and have double the amount.
