I finally made my first full wig with closure!

My hair told me that I'm done with sew ins. I need a protective style that allows me to access my hair daily. I don't have money for RPGShow wigs and Im tired of synthetic wigs lasting me a month or less. So I watched a zillion Youtube videos and decided to try making me own wig. Funny thing is that I planned to sew it so I can practice sew in tracks, but I couldn't get past the first row, lol. It was so hard, I was all over the place with my thread:lachen:. Shame. So I ended up bonding the rest of the hair in. I did however successfully sew in the closure thanks to TierraMonet's videos from Youtube. Anyways, this is going to be by new protective styling and I'll only wear it sometimes so I can continue to let my edges get back to normal. I saved so much money and I love the outcome. I have to be honest though, I now understand why hairdressers charges the money that they do, it was very tedious and that was on a mannequin head. smh. But I loved it, it's my new hobby now.

**Excuse the closure, I bought a cheapie one from my BSS just so I could practice and get the hang of installing it. As for the hair, I also bought cheapie hair from my BSS hair (2 packs of 14" for $12) just so I could practice.

Thanks ikandi87 yes your so right! It not great hair but surprisingly it does hold curls...go figure. But I'll be buying this again to practice sewing tracks because I'm clearly gonna need a lot of practice with it.

Very nice, I wouldn't know that it was a first try. I'm inspired and need to be cause I have a huge head and need a custom wig but don't have custom money. If you don't mind, what was total cost for your custom human hair wig?

HI @Frizzb sure the breakdown is:

2 packs of hair $12
Closure $19
Dome Cap $2
Total: $33 + tax

***I already had the glue, thread, needle and mannequin head on hand from before. (otherwise that would have been an additional $10 or less for those items)***

Once I master sewing tracks, I will be buying hair from Aliexpress to keep my costs low but still allow me to keep the hair for up to a year.

Thanks. I'm ready to start making more wigs now. I'm just having the hardest time with sewing. I need more practice and to go watch more videos.

Yes girl, try it. I love sew ins...but my hair has suffered from bad sew ins. So now Im able to get to my hair daily and most important, not stress my edges at all!!!

what part of the sewing process are you having a problem with? the actually sewing or the track placement? are you flipping or cutting the tracks?

Could you let me know what bonding (glue) you used?

I was planning to sew my first one but maybe I don't have time for all that either :look:
