What don't you use?

I will never have a use for hardening hair spray, dry shampoo or mouse.

My hair already has too much volume and doesn't get washed enough for hair spray. (Seriously, what would it even do for natural hair? That's why we have gel)

Dry shampoo to me is for people who want to get rid of some greasiness but don't have time for a real wash. I don't get greasy unless I'm heavy handed with the grease, even then a cowash could handle it.

Mouse, nah. I've got enough volume. If I need more definition, I'll try conditioner and gel.

What don't you use and why?

I don't use mousse ever. Or hairspray. I don't use butters or anything heavy. I'm not into the handmade stuff. Just give me some drugstore conditioner/shampoo and I'm happy.

SuchaLady Girl you live in Georgia with the best water I've ever encountered :) I'm talking so good, I always drink right out the tap every time I visit home. Cali? No ma'am! Water so hard, I swear it's a Blood or Crip. I clarify alot...even with a shower filter. Hair always feels 100 times better after. And I use minimal products...not even a gel, just mostly conditoner.

Hair gel... I can't imagine wearing any style that would require it ever, and if I did I would HAVE to wash it out at the end of the day. if I need to slick anything back I'll use edge control for my baby hairs and a butter on the hair itself... and my baby toothbrush.

Oh my goodness I second this. I live in Cali too. Next time I visit GA/AL I'm bringing a case of empty water bottles! Lol

This may be weird...but as a natural I hate glycerin. It makes my hair feel so weird! Even if its low on the ingredient list, I can immediately tell it has glycerin in it without looking at the ingredients. Yuck.

I honestly think everyone needs to clarify every once in a blue...i think products work better on hair that is clean and able to fully experience the product.

i also use mousse for hold on some natural styles-pantene has a great smelling light hold mousse it changed the game on my twist outs, braid outs and bantu knot sets...

hair spray i use on weaves...any kind of fake hair..

LOL! if you use products with silicones and mineral oils you need to clarify monthly. If you swim, have hard water, relaxer you should chelate monthly. Even if you're using all natural products, its a good practice to add a clarifying shampoo to your regimen, especially if you cowash. Those products can sit on your strands and cause breakage, primarily if your hair is fine, it can also cause dryness because product build up prevents moisture from penetrating the cuticle. I use a chelating shampoo because it both clarifies and chelates. A clarifying poo won't chelate.

What's the difference between chelating and clarifying??

Chelating gets rid of mineral build-up from the hard water while clarifying gets rid of product build-up.

I don't use hairspray. My last hairdresser used some AND a holding spritz on my hair after she pressed it, my hair meshed yall.

Dry shampoos, mousse etc. are all no-nos

Shampoo: I have tried all kinds (castile soap, no sulfates, sulfates, etc) and my hair is hard and tangled, no matter what.

Silicones: nice going on and good for detangling but my hair immediately gets dried out.

Anything with alcohol: not the fatty alcohols (cetyl, steryl, etc) but alcohol-alcohol. Too drying!

Exclusively using moisturizing products: My extra fine hair NEEDS protein to be healthy, retain length and for awesome curl definiton. Once I included protein in my reggie, my hair took flight!

At this very moment, I don't use mousse, gel, pomade, or hairspray.

I used mousse and hairsprays when I did flexirod sets (mousse while wet for hold, spray while dry for hold if needed). Haven't done any type of rollerset in a long time though so I have no need for those products at this time.

I don't use pomade or gel (at this time) because I'm not slicking, defining, holding, smoothing anything on my head. My edges are fuzzy & my ends are wrangled into a bun and I just let them be. I am buying gels and pomades to acclimate to possibly having to use them in my relaxer free future though.

Things in my kitchen cabinet or fridge. Like mayo, eggs, apple cider vinegar, baking soda, honey.

Only thing I add to my hair products are other hair products.

All natural hair products.:look: I tried, no go.:nono: My hair and scalp didn't feel washed and they caused a lot of build up and they were more expensive than the products i normally use so it was a waste of money. Never again.

Moisturizing condtioners. My hair just doesn't like them.:nono: They sorta worked when I was on vacation one year I was swimming everyday and clarifying right after. But they didn't do anything the conditioners in my rotation didn't do.:look: So I'll stick to what I know works.

Although i use Avocado oil and honey, I second whoever said I don't use out of the fridge. No avocado, eggs, mayo.

I don't do refrigerated products. Mayo, eggs, avocado, no.
Shea butter is also a serious NO for my hair.

I do use processed stuff like Crisco, oil, vinegar for detangling, honey randomly.

I use dry shampoo to extend blowouts, gel to prevent hairline breakage when pulling my hair into a ponytail and clarifying poo to remove buildup regularly.

I definitely couldn't imagine using refrigerated products either.

I don't use aloe vera juice straight from the bottle or any higher than 5th on the ingredient list in a product. My hair ends up all dry and crispy and crunchy.

Bent. Not Broken.
No products over $12 damn dollars (except my ONE staple heat protectant that takes two years to use up). If it cant do the job under $12 something is wrong with my hair. Really, the possibilities in this price range are mind boggling. Hundreds of choices to PJ.

Mayo. Have you seen the list of chemicals in Kraft mayo? Geez.

Aloe, castor, certain EOs. Allergies.

Coconut milk straight up. Jacks up my strands.

Ecostyler. ****** hair disaster waiting to happen

Glycerin tangles and frizzed my hair

Shea butter dries my hair out

Suave anything especially coconut causes itchy scalp and tangles and irritation.

Honey makes me hair a hot frizzy mess. Mmnph.

Dry shampoo. I don't see the point.

Alcohol in anything makes my hair dry no matter how high or low on the ingredient list.

Hairspray and spritz. No no just NO.
