Reneice And Company Are Out Of Control

I only straighten my hair twice a year, and I've seen flat iron prices close to that in most cities I've lived in, so I'm not shocked. I'm moving to Md so I'm thinking of putting my name on her waiting list. I've encountered A LOT of stylists who say they use healthy hair care practices, but they don't.

This. If what Reneice and company does was so dime a dozen I wouldn't be singing Sarah McLaughlin songs to the missing edges of some of my regular weave wearing friends or fried hair I see when they get flatirons. :spinning: (excluding those with health issues of course)

So yeah for me....they're consistent and truly live up to their healthy hair practice claim. It's worth it, but then again I'm coming at this in terms of my weaves and the flatiron I get after take down. So I only pay that money 6 or 7 times a year max taking breaks between installs.

Reneice always did a great job by you gurl...you've been one of her best testimonials over the years! So do you use one of the good old Willie Morrow pic attachments? They're almost impossible to find nowadays, but I can't imagine life w/o one.

I use the Yellow Bird. I need to get a new one, though, as this one now has a couple broken teeth. I wish I could just get the comb attachment only, as the dryer itself is fine.

I know she's been thinking about doing this and mentioned it to me and if she could use my head in a demo. That was a while ago, though, so I wonder if she's still planning on it or if she just hasn't had time or something.

When you posted the pictures after Reneice did your hair, I swear you had like 900 "likes" LOL the most I've ever seen on a thread.

Well ladies....I know the price hike is like WoWzers, but if you have access to a trustworthy stylist/salon that can handle both relaxed/natural hair and in it's various textures...I say you got a good thing.

Spare a thought for us in the Boonies that don't even have the option unless we go to a big city! :bling:

Gurl you need a new comb attachment cuz those broken teeth will take out some hairs which I'm sure you already know by now! :bling: I looked up your dryer and the Willie Morrow might work for it. It tends to work better w/ long barrelled dryers because it was built for the Solano pro series (which I have). My aunt used to have a Willie Morrow on a Conair. By "used to" I mean that she gave the dryer to my grandma....the dryer, my grandma, and the Willie Morrow comb is still going strong after about 30 years! :giggle:

It's a true investment piece at about $20, but they're worth every penny IMHO.

A $25 comb attachment! But really, this would be like the 4th blow dryer I've bought in as many years, so maybe it is indeed worth it. thanks for the recommendation. :)

Yeah I know about the comb prices...dunno why they got so expensive. It seems they got suddenly very expensive and extremely hard-to-find, but
4 dryers in 4 years...naw gurl. Get yourself a Solano and call it a day! :giggle: I have this

I've had mine about 15 years now and it's still going strong. I spent about $89 on it back then, so this price is excellent IMHO. Of course the bonus is that you'll know that Willie Morrow comb will fit perfectly.

Lovely! Her blow dry is better than my flat iron fail. :ohwell:

Would you happen to remember which products she used to blow dry and flat iron your hair?

Sadly, I don't remember but she did use some products from black owned companies.

I have only gone to her once. I have been going back and forth with whether I should straighten again, get a weave, or get braids. I do need a trim though. I got an appointment by sheer and utter luck. I'd been on the wait list for years but she had posted an instagram post about them doing natural hair consultations and I just happened to see it the moment she post it.

I am in the boonies and totally agree. I rather pay for quality than to have suffered the setbacks I had. @jamaraa

I haven't read the entire thread. But I believe it. Yes I was paying that much back in 2011, here in ATL for a wash, steam treatment and a trim. And plus I stopped going to the salon because I felt like they were just doing that but just the wash, condition/steam, trim and press I didn't feel like I was getting any major super growth by going to them. And what really got me is the one time I went to the co-owner because I wanted them to do a color on my hair to switch it up and she started examining my hair more closely AFTER I had been going to her for months.

Is the stylists money being counted or is the quality of service being considered? Its just like anything else, perceived value is what people pay for. A dinner at Ruth Chris cost $150-$250 PER PERSON. Do you dissect how much it cost the restaurant? Nope. Designer purses, Nike, Human hair, Perfume, Makeup, etc.

Cute G&C but you know what I mean. Way too many successful high end brands to know that individuals will pay for what they feel is valuable.

Right because Ruth Chris' sucks pretty majorly....

RC was just an example. A lot of people feel 6.50 is too much to pay for access to all of LHCF. You obviously don't feel that way.

Also waaaay too many successful Asian Owned BSS that treat blacks like criminals and second class citizens to know that people will pay for what they feel is valuable,

I think it a matter of opportunity costs. Since they do not double book or shuttle people through like cattle, they are able to spend more time in creating a very individualized experience. But since they do not see as many people per day, they are able to pass those costs to the people they do see. So they are essentially getting the average per day salary as someone with probably double the daily clients. I also believe they do a lot of continuing education and no matter what industry you are in, classes aren't cheap.

I think their reputation speaks for itself and is not necessarily the reason they are priced that way. You also have to take into account that their location in Rockville is probably not cheap. I'm sure a nice chunk of the cost is just to cover overhead costs. Most office spaces for lease in Rockville are between $20 and $40 per sq foot.

I will never let anyone do my hair but Reniece and Company. I had no edges when I started, Reniece weaved me back to healthy hair, check out my siggy pic. I live in NC and travel to her every 3 months. I have strayed and tried several supposedly "top stylists" in NC, only to be so disappointed that I cried. I am trying to get Reniece to open a salon in NC with some backing from me and other investors. Her pricing is worth every penny and the saying "that you get what you pay for" is sooo true.

The junior stylists are no longer juniors, they have been working for 4 years and their work is on point. I love the salon and have been weaved by Breon, Shannon and Shamira, they are all excellent. Reniece is not for everyone and I'm glad because I want to continue to get my appointments when I need them....LOL But personally for me this is an investment in my happiness and mental health. The one on one interaction in a private setting is well worth the money. I recently went to a supposedly "high end salon" in Charlotte, only to discover that 7 1/2 hours later I was in a nightmare...... I can fly from NC, land in DC, take a 50 minute metro ride to Rockville, get to the salon and 2 hours later I'm walking out catching a flight back home with the entire trip taking about 9-10 hours..... :) And I'm happy! (and that's PRICELESS!)
PS: the trip to Charlotte took 11-12 hours and I was not happy!

As a consumer, I'd be concerned about the sudden price increase as well. However, now that I'm on the freelancing side of the beauty industry, I see no problem with $100 for a hairstyle. Considering the work to be done, I'm somewhat surprised it isn't more.

In general, a lot of factors go into a freelancer's price (time, products used, the fact that they usually have to pay their own health insurance, save for retirement, have a savings, etc). $50/60 ain't gonna cut that.

Your whole post is the truth!!! Shannon is my stylist and after my first visit with her, I put up those same words "you get what you pay for", as a caption on my blow out picture. They really do amazing work. I have dense 4b hair and the amount of care and time she took at the shampoo bowl (and beyond) is unmatched.

I've also said that there needs to be a Reniece take over and I'm glad that you're being about it and investing in this. Everyone needs to have the opportunity to sit in a stylist's chair and be able to completely relax, without fear of losing edges and whatever else. I hope to contribute to this, someday!
