Anyone Else Not Care For Sheamoisture Products?

I have their mongongo and hemp seed oils hair mask in right now and I could literally pass out because it's smells so strongly! Just about all of their products that I have tried are so heavily accented and not in a good way. They literally smell like old granny perfume that you found at the thrift store. I have a nose like a blood hound but i still feel this is too much. Also this mask is not even a mask. To me masks are super thick. This is just like a regular DC. I don't know what I was thinking.

If I co wash after I rinse this out to get rid of the smell, will I be washing away all the good stuff from the DC? I just can't ....

The coconut spray smells good but it makes my hair a bit brittle.
I stopped using the deep protein conditioner because I didn't like how it made my hair feel.
I recently added castor oil to the conditioner and it makes a difference.

I jumped on the bandwagon at the beginning, but I wasn't impressed. I did like the restorative conditioner... just wasn't enough product. When I used up their products I never repurchased or gave away the remainder to my family.

The products I have tried also dry my hair out. I have never tried their deep conditioners though until this one. I tried the JBCO line and it caused so much breakage. I have difficult hair and thought it was just me. I'll update about this particular mask after I rinse this out but I think I'm gonna cowash because I can't have my hair smelling like this.

With 150+ products, I can only use 3 successfully. That's saying something :look:

lol damn. I honestly don't know why everyone raves about this line. I will admit I am a product snob and prefer the handmade artisan brands, but I will use something that works no matter the price. Like I've been using the Hawaiian Silky activator gel on my brothers hair because it's so moisturizing and CG friendly and that's only $5ish dollars for 16oz.

I do like Sheamoistures Marula and olive oil baby soap, but I don't use it in my baby's hair.

I'll be waiting to hear from you about that other thing :)

SM is definitely over rated IMO, too. I will purchase the coconut/hibiscus line on sale and in a pinch. The smoothie from that line is weird on my hair but that won't stop me from using it somehow, one day. The Manuka honey mask was okay but not stellar. I would purchase it again in a pinch.

Overall I am underwhelmed with SM but I do want to try some products from the LoPo line and maybe the Superfruit and 10/1 renewal(?) lines.

Same here, my hair laughed at the curl enhancing smoothie. The raw shea butter deep treatment masque and restorative conditioner work OK on my hair though.

Curl enhancing smoothie and gel just set on my hair. Funnily enough I want to try it again. :look:

I didn't forget about you.

If you've ever been to their page on fb, the people there who praise their stuff don't really have anything else. Shea Moisture is their only black owned product that's working for them because it kinda has to. I totally get their POV and some of them aren't familiar with handowned brands.

There is also the well known fact that some people rather buy their stuff OTG. Last, not everyone can get to a tar.get or wal.mart. Rite.aid and c.v.s work just fine and it's all they know.

I've tried several SM products but I think I convinced myself they were working because everyone else seemed to like them. The curl enhancing smoothie left my hair dry and the JBCO shampoo tangled my hair so badly it was coming out in clumps. But stupid me thought my hair was severely damaged and that's why it was coming out. But nope, it was the shampoo. The masks do nothing for me. I gave all my SM products away except for the raw shea butter shampoo. This is my staple shampoo and don't think I will ever switch. It works really well for me.

This. Their earlier line was garbage. The curl enhancing smoothie should be thrown in the pits of hell. Their slightly newer lines have worked for me but they are now putting out 4 new lines. As someone mentioned before, these new lines definitely ain't geared for 'us'. I understand that it makes business sense to cater to 'them' but I still feel some kinda way about it.

LOL!

I saw a YouTuber talking about how shea moisture is starting to be geared towards "them". Which I understand if your main concern is money, the only color that matters is green. That will be fine they just won't get our money plain and simple. But yeah the YouTuber was saying that's why their products are starting not to work for a lot of textured hair types .

My hair was breaking off really bad at the ends when I use the shampoo . I took it right back to target.

A few years ago I tried the Yucca Baobab line(poo, condish, and LI). I can't speak on the performance because I had to get up in the middle of the night a re-wash my hair. The smell was too strong :barf: ...I couldn't sleep.

Returned it to Tar-Jay Boutique the next day.

I used to buy the Moisture Retention poo for DS, but he started using my Go Moist and asking for re-ups.

Years ago when they first came out I tried the shampoo and masque in the yellow packaging and it was terrible. I've tried the kids detangler and hated that. I've used the kids curling butter a couple times but the smell isn't great and it's a bit heavy...
I have the curl and shine rinse out conditioner and didn't care for it much. I definitely will not repurchase.

Recently I've been using the manuka honey shampoo and I REALLY like it! I've used the masque once and liked my results but I'll have to use it a few more times to give my full opinion. It smells good to me, but the scent is a bit strong. I'm dying to try the Jamaican black castor oil masque. I hope it works for me.

I probably won't go out and try any of their other products. I miiiight give the 10 in 1 masque a try. But I definitely see myself repurchasing the manuka honey shampoo:yep:

It's for them and let it be for them. Them still coming in our aisle for the stuff made for us. Stuff for them on clearance too. They don't want what's for them, they want what's for us.

The first thing I ever tried from them was the raw Shea butter deep treatment masque & it did absolutely NOTHING for my hair. I tried it as a deep condish, leave in, moisturizer, etc. I liked the smell & that was it.

The coconut & hibiscus lotion & curl enhancing smoothie were just ok. I gave them to my sister & she used them on my niece's hair & they work great for her.

I did really like the original formula purification mask.

I used the manuka honey intense hydration masque & I liked it but not blown away.

I bought the sacha inchi omega 3,6,9 masque cause it was on clearance & I heard good things about it but I haven't used it yet.

I normally would DC using heat for an hour and then sleep in it over if I am feeling lazy. My hair never gets too moisturized. But this smelled soooooo strong of granny perfume, I washed it out after about 20-30 minutes and used the Camille rose Morrocan pear conditioner and my hair STILL smells like that mask. All of their products have too much fragrance I don't get it...gross.
