Does Anyone Use Wavers?

I've tried wavers over the years and never had a proper result whether using it on straight hair or unstraightened hair. The last time I tried was a few months ago and it was again, a total failure and I returned the iron. There are are so many YT vids that show perfect results with triple barrel wavers yet when I try them I can barely get a wave .The only time I recall getting a pretty wave with one was when a stylist used a marcel waver on me. I had asked her about it because I was trying to master waves and she demonstrated it on me.
Now this vid has me even more confused. This girl has thicker and curlier hair than I do and her hair isnt even straightened and yet it seemed to wave so easily and the end result was soooooo pretty! her hair was not even straight before she used it. I'd love to do that in place of flat ironing sometimes.
I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong :(

I used to use these back in the day, haven't used one in over a decade so I have no recent feedback for you. I get the same result from a braidout so wouldn't dream of exposing my hair to that type of heat. If you're barely getting a wave it's probably not hot enough or you're not leaving your hair between the plates long enough? Have you tried a chunky braidout?

braidouts just never seem to give me the results i want :(. maybe i'm not skilled enough lol.
the heat factor doesn't bug me too much because i flat iron 1x- 2x a week.

I tried one, it came out a total mess. I was going for this look (skip to 2:50 for the actual tutorial).
I could probably get these results if I flat ironed but I don't want to apply that much heat. I know Brittany, the girl in the video, can blow out her hair and it looks like silk press. Yeah....I don't have that kind of patience, not to mention my hair would cry if it touched a round brush when wet.

Anyway, I love the results of this girl! I wonder if I could get those results on stretched or blowdried hair...:scratchchin:

great minds think alike lol
this is precisely what I wanted to try and even bought an Andis dryer with attachments to attempt . I chickened out though and I think first ill just see if i can master stretching it with the Andis.
I flat iron regularly but the idea or ironing then waving scares me plus my iron straightened hair doesn't like to hold a curl
I figure maybe stretched hair would hold a curl much better.

I know what you mean. I did a braid out on flat ironed thinking it would give me some "beach waves" and that was a total fail lol

yep, braidouts dont work for me either :( it gives me too small waves and horrible crimped ends.
but believe it or not this gave me cute messy waves. It's like twistout but I can't figure out how to get a twistout to hold. I only tried this method on one side.
It's very easy so try it next time you have an old flat iron job

I just used my Sultra Sweetheart waver on a totally unstraightened piece of hair and it worked beautifully. Hmmm.
I got it for $25 on ebay new in box. It sells for much much higher on the web.
I would like to try it all over my head but I don't want to experiment too much right now lol.

I saw a tutorial with flexi rods like this

Whenever I use flexis I get springy curls. Idk what I'm doing wrong but no matter what I try I get a ringlet curl. and I have tried methods that get waves on others lol. Plus sleeping on flexis is agony so I don't want anything to do with them.

Oh, yeah that's basically a two strand flat twist, she just pins the twist up. I've never tried it on flat ironed hair.

Flat-ironing as often as you do probably doesn't help. You could put perm rods on the ends. What about a leave-in and then a gel for a soft to medium hold? You could try wetline, ic , or ecostyler gel under a lightweight lotion type leave-in.

Braidouts just give me waves that are too small and jagged for my liking. I prefer the results of flat twist outs but Idk how to do them . I like a rounded s wave.

another interesting technique
So i tried this on one piece of hair last night using a silk scarf. It TOTALLY works. No spiral curl, just a beautiful silky shiny loose wave on my flat ironed hair. I did not wet my hair.
I did it slightly differently from her because I'm slow and found it easier to sort of just braid in the scarf with my hair ( which I think is actually what she did but in a different order lol).
