So I used the last of my old formula last night and when my sister saw me first thing she said was “Ooh your hair looks nice”

I’m sitting there like

because it’s probably the last time for a while  How could they betray me like this :nono:

I’ve been researching new gels. I’ll come back with my list of what I’ll be trying. *sucks teeth*

How goes your gel trials? Have you sampled any of the "snots"?

I just started using this gel within the last 6 months or so and I loved it. Between this change and my bad luck with the ponytail clip my protective styling regimen is taking a hit.

@PJaye Sorry this is late. Gorilla Snot makes my hair dry, dry, dry! Idk what’s in it but my hair hates it lol.

As of now, I have only tried the Flax Seed Eco Styler. I looked as if I did not love myself and at one point I even asked myself in the mirror if I really used to walk around like this

There are several on my to do list but I haven’t had a chance to grab any. However out of desperation I used the new formula last week. Sadly, I think its subpar results will be better than any full force results from another brand. I may have to lower my expectations slightly and just settle for this:rolleyes:

I have a list I’ve compiled of gels to try. Let me link it when I get to a computer.

Thanks for the response. I hope that you find something that will work for you. I'm still searching for a replacement and I thought of you earlier this week when I tried the Creme of Nature Argan Oil Flexible Styling Snot. I was hesitant to try it since the yellow Gorilla Snot made my hair hard, dry and nasty (I literally looked like "Please, help me"). However, the CON has a nice thick consistency and applied surprisingly well. I didn't have to use very much in order to get great smoothing and Wetline-esque shine. I initially applied it on Tuesday and when I awoke on Wednesday, I noticed that my hair had stayed where it was and remained shiny. I was pretty crispy tho. In an effort to see how things would go, I refreshed my ponytail using only water and a LI, which went well. Although my hair was still a bit crispy, it was still smoothed out and shiny. I didn't refresh again until today and I received the same results - soft, somewhat crispy, smoothed out, shiny hair. I still have a way to go as far as sampling it, but I did want to suggest it to you since you're a ponytail smoother like me.

They way I've been styling lately hasn't required gel, but I have been checking ingredients of prospective gels and haven't found anything I think I'd like thats also cheap. I may be become of those people who style gel-less from here on out. Big Sigh.

Ladies, I found five of the 32oz tubs of the old formula in the first BSS I checked in the Hispanic part of town. :drunk: I was getting desperate after dipping out of my last tub and I'm so relieved now.

The clear tubs they had were all the new formulas. The blue and green tubs were a mixture of old and new so I had to root through them all and found five originals and I was more than happy. Had to pull out my reading glasses to be absolutely sure the ingredients matched (of course the color dye codes differed though).

Please keep in mind that there are three different formulas out there for the clear but I didn't want any of them if the ingredients weren't exactly like the original. The last time I looked I thought I got lucky and found a clear old formula in another store but it sucked and made my hair look ashy. :nono:

I knew that the formula changed because I posted in this thread months ago... what I didn’t notice is that this tub that’s darn near empty is actually the new formula. There is definitely a difference between the two... and I should have known!

My WNGs have not been the same!

I know. I meant that I was surprised that there are three different clear formulations. I only know of two.
Ok gotcha. I just took some pics of the tubs showing the different formulas.

This is the original formula below that I had from the beginning (32oz Clear w/Green lid)
WL-ORIGINAL.jpg

This is the 32oz blue I just bought (green is the same) - Same as original clear formula. Some of the blues also listed the new formulas so I had to pick to find these.
WL-BLUE.jpg

This is one of the new clear 8oz formulas that I bought before I realized the formulas changed. I didn't even notice that it said Benzoyl Alcohol and MethoxyCinnamidopropyl. I was wondering why my hair didn't feel the same.
WL-CLEARNew1.jpg

Now this is where I got confused. I found this new clear jar below recently (the second new formula) that DIDN'T say Benzoyl Alcohol so I thought yay, it must be close to the original formula. But it wasn't and made my hair ashy, dry and crunchy and it didn't re-activate when wet like the original. That Methoxy Cinnamidopropyl ingredient is new and the other ingredients order is a little off too. Most of the ones I've been seeing have these ingredients.

Thank you for this! This clears things up quite nicely.

I checked my tubs and I have three of the original and two of the first reformulation with the benzyl alcohol in it that I got from Pharmapacks. On a whim, I picked up a kids formula. I haven't used it yet, but these are the ingredients (for the record, it has a pink hue, smells like watermelon and has sliver glittery sparkles in it):

Xtreme Wetline Styling Gel For Kids
Water, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Polyacrylate Acid, Glycerin, Fragrance, Phenylcarbinol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Silica, Polyethylene Teraphthalate Acrylates, Copolymer, Panthenol, Aloe Vera Extract, Tetrasodium EDTA, Red 33

What is the real difference with the Blue version cause I found plenty of it at my local grocery store with carbomer as the second ingredient:look::look:...

It's been about 10 years since I first discovered this gel, but if I recall correctly, they're all the same in regards to ingredients and performance. I used to get all three (clear, blue and green.)

I'm sad to read they changed up the formula, because I kept saying I wanted to go back to using it. There was a couple times I almost bought some while I was at Wal*Mart but changed my mind. Ugh...

For those of you that are having problems with the new formula, try adding glycerin and EVOO to the gel and see if the performance is better.

I used to do that with mine and I loved it. It gave me a perfect balance of moisture and hold.

I thought a few people reviewed the Dollar Tree one in the voodoo thread. I could be wrong. I'm on my phone, which makes it harder to search.

We did... I specifically remember saying that it wasn't the same as the ones I bought from DT ten years ago when I lived in ATL.

I'm so happy. Today I received two huge 35 oz jars of the old old formula that our kind @demlew was generous enough to send to me! I hope that these will last me until the company decides to go back to the old formula (I know silly me lol)

Thank you so much @demlew! You are awesome!:grouphug:

Yay! I wondered if you had received them. I don't mind a good scavenger hunt, so please let me know if you'd like me to look for more :)

I did today. Thank you very much dear :love2: I live in Europe that's why it takes longer for my stuff to be transferred to me from the US. I don't want to be too much trouble but mmm if you come across any of these delightful old formula jars, it'll be very kind of you if you grab them for me. My hair really really loves this gel!

I am currently testing vital care xtreme sport gel. I got a huge bottle for 5 bucks from walmart. So far I have no flaking and my hair stays put. I was really surpised as this is the only gel that controls my edges all day. It does have a strong cast. I probably need to use a more moisturizing leave in.
