Why Do Christians Like To Act Like This World/humanity Is Good?

Or that things will work out on this side of heaven?

When that's not Biblical?

Like ultimatly God's Will will be done and ultimatly God will triumph.

But I'm a little tired of people acting like people are inherently good. That the arch of humanity is an upward swing. That life will get better for everyone.

It sounds nice and is temporarily encouraging but it's dishonest

Agreed.

That's why I like authentic christianity that tells it like it is. I would feel HORRIBLE if I were believing it was going to be great and wonderful here on earth, and if I were waiting for and living for that.

That's why I appreciate my preacher so much. He knows how to acknowledge and address the terribleness of it all without engendering despair about it and creating a "Well, then, we can only wait for heaven, and there's no use in action and fighting in the now on earth" mentality.

No matter how bad people and things are, I'm infusing whatever good I can in my small little circle of influence.

I hold onto these and others:

Romans 12:21
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

John 14: 27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 Thess 5:16
Always be joyful.

Nehemiah 8:10
Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."

Matthew 10:28 (CEV)
Don't be afraid of people. They can kill you, but they cannot harm your soul. Instead, you should fear God who can destroy both your body and your soul in hell.

Romans 8:28-39
28And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

31What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. 35Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36Just as it is written,
“FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG;
WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED.”

37But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 6:12 is another helpful one, though very challenging.

Ephesians 6:10-18

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

That isn’t the impression that I’ve gotten from Christianity. It’s always been that the world/worldly things are evil, the devil is amongst us running amok, you will suffer and experience immense pain in this life, BUT stick with JESUS and you’ll get your just desserts in heaven.

The way some preachers talk, if you've got the Lord and work the scripture, all should be well and solved. The message is sometimes this: "Problems? You must be outside of the will of God then. Get in His will, and watch everything turn around."

Here's an oft-used scripture:

2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

There are people living there best lives who’ve never sat foot in a church, don’t pray to God, don’t believe in an afterlife. While I’ve known people who spend 6 days a week in church praying to Jesus to make all manner of suffering and challenges in their lives go away. I’ve never seen or heard of a pastor saying, “Mary? You’ve been here wed-sun, every week for the last two years... What are you doing outside of church to better your life?”. Never. They just let people keep coming to waste away on their knees. And then when Mary’s life is really in the toilet, they switch to the “heaven lasts always” narrative.

I also know agnostics and atheists who live well.

I don't know know that many people attending church 6 days a week. Interesting. I also know of more preachers and churches that encourage parishioners to address the areas of their lives than I know preachers who don't. I'm sad to read your post!

A fleck on His Sword
Matthew 5:44-45 (NIV) But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

I prescribe to neither camps. This life is about refinement and becoming a tool in His hands to help others. We still have to live our lives, but He guides our steps by His supernatural will. The problem is, who is actually teaching and making sure believers are hearing from the Father and seeing His works in our lives? The reliance on man's assumptions about Him keeps people in darkness, which is why I never trusted church or religion.

Proverbs 16:3 (ESV) Commit your work to YHWH, and your plans will be established.
Proverbs 16:9 (ESV) The heart of man plans his way, but Yah establishes his steps.

Matthew 5:44-45 also came to mind. :yep:

I feel like yelling "End of discussion!!! Stop, stop, stop!!!" to preachers who even HINT that they think one can avoid trouble in this life by being a follower. Not so.

We are to use the fruit of the Spirit to live well, come what may.

To ignore teaching about refinement and encouraging avoidance of trouble by being good little boys and girls are big errors.
