Yt Vent (hair Gurus Exposed)

I need to go and clean up my subscribe list but there are very few channels that I can or do watch more than three videos of (hair or make up). I can't figure out how you put out 3 vids per week and each video has your new favourite of the same type of product. I might see something on YouTube that is intriguing, but unless LHCF deems it worth buying, then it's not going in my shopping cart (or on my hair).

Personally, I take ALL hair videos with a grain of salt. In the end, what works for one person may NOT work for you due to too many differences from product usage to skill to hair texture/quantity, etc.

I like Nap85 and Curly Proverbz because they tend to stick to their routines but neither have the same density as I do so I can't duplicate their styles.
All of this!
YT has never helped me with products,’just wasting my money through trial and error. If anything, I would do it for styling but product reviews not so much. Hair is such an individual thing and my hair tends to not need the heavy butters and oils that many appreciate. This go around when I big chop again I want a simple set of products and nothing extra.

You know what irritates me... The growth progress videos where they are "documenting" their growth and they don't have the actual progress pics, just explain how much growth they've gotten then say "I trimmed off 2" about 2 months ago and I still retained 4" of new growth. That's 6" of new growth in 8 months!", no pics before or after the "trim". When in all actuality it was the average amount of growth because they really didn't cut a damn thing.
PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

Ooooh snap I forgot I really HATE this. So freaking annoying, why even make a video? No starting pic, no hair length t shirt, no measuring tape, not even something to show a change in thickness/length between braid outs and twist outs. Like girl OKAY. Most uninformative natural hair video.

I don't like the suddenly LOUD music and/or sound effects that don't match the volume of the speaker. Some talk so low then boom, the music comes on makes me jump out my seat.

I hate when they only show the front view of a style and forget to turn around to show the back. And when they do show the back of their head they're swinging it back and forth so fast like we're supposed to catch that? I don't get it.

I hate these title:
"How I grew my hair fast" *with WL thumbnail*
Oh Hush it up, hair takes years who are you trying to fool.

How many gurus gonna show us how to make flaxseed gel?? THAT'S NOT IMPRESSIVE.

How many are going to show us how to do a simple bun or puff? Come On!!

Please stop.

I've been asked by a few people to make a youtube channel, but I'm like what for? :look:
There are already sooooooooo many videos on the same things, it just doesn't seem like I would be able to add much to it lol

One type of yt natural hair video I can't stand, are the "enter season here" wash routine videos. Y'all....maybe it's just because my wash routine is the same year around but I sweeeear people be have like ten of them things in a year!!!:whyme:

Lately I've just been watching hair videos related to hair tools. I think those are pretty helpful.

The endless bombastic how I grew my hair ones really annoy me. The rate at which hair emerges from your scalp is set by genetics. No miracle product or regimen will change that. They write those nonsense headlines for clicks and then give basic ass tips.

I agree that no product can change the rate in which one's hair grows. But exercise is the only thing that increased my growth rate.

Lol! Yeah, some YT videos/themes have gotten odd.

When I'm trying to improve styling or a technique, I gain a lot from combining the smallest details from a very wide variety of videos. For this benefit, I'm usually able to ignore all the shenanigans and appreciate that there are so many folks to watch, from whom to learn tiny things that help.

I never clicked on the $500 video, the mix all my hair products video, etc. Too much.

Yep. This right here. :goodpost:

Thx for the shout out! This new trend of "I tried ___ tutorial" is annoying to me as well.
Yes I didn't know this was a think until recently. So you are doing a video doing some one else's routine and then you put sips of their video in your video!!!

Ok I am calming down now.

I’m going to be all over the place for the sake of not making this post super long.

I feel like once one popular YTer (Naptural85 - Aloe Vera) post a video....so many other gurus clickbait their ideas (OMG!!!! You Won’t Believe Aloe Did To My Hair:eek:) - this is incredibly annoying. I don’t even click anymore.

The thumbnail videos are annoying too. Before I use to be like awesome before & after, this must work. But if you closely look at the thumbnail pics and surrounding video posts (How I Grew Back My Edges).... those pics are photoshopped. STOP CLICK BAITING FOR VIEWS

Remember when EVERYONE did a Pantene Gold Series video and everyone swore up and down that they loved the products and they were very moisturizing and just the best thing ever.... I don’t see a nare Pantene Gold product in anyone’s updated hair wash routine.

I’m so over YT at this point. Sooner than later Cantu gonna come out w/ a Rice Water Rinse. I’m over YTers saying that don’t follow other YTers tutorials but y’all hopped on that Eco Gold. But now there’s a whole wave of “I Followed A ______ Tutorial” click bait stuff (I do click on those but it’s out of hand now. They’re taking over my feed.)

Anyone else need to vent. Ppl doing too much for this YT check.

I could not agree with you more. Especially about that rice water rinse statement. Most black women don't know how much power we have in persuading the hair product market. As far as following Youtube "hair gurus", I don't do that mess anymore. I just do what works for me, and that is the best advice I can give to anyone who is trying to grow out their hair.
However, I've started to mostly watch youtubers who have my hair type.

These Thumbnails get to me. Most of them are very posed photos that they’ve probably had to retake a billion times.

There was one I remember in particular where she was saying she reached waistlength, but she had her head tilted completely back in her thumbnail. Of course your hair will look longer if you bend your head backwards. Those commentators on YouTube tore her a new one. That comment section was FILLED to the brim of people saying, “who the **** are you trying to fool?!?”

Clickbait. Clickbait. Clickbait. Hate it.

I’m only subscribed to:
PowerInYourCurl
Ebony’s curly TV
AllofDestiny
Torrinpage (she’s of European ethnicity, but I get a lot of my bun and braid tutorials from her, and she’s very very sweet)
Haartraum (she’s German, but makes awesome hairstyle tutorials as well)
And TheTabbi1

I like Finally Amber, The Mane Choice, and Melshary Arias for honesty/integrity
I definetly co sign with Melshary Arias ,she s very honest . She’s one of my favorites
,Alove4me (good content ,love her straight to the point Approach )evaniwithaV, Naakie nartley, felisha shugart. I don’t follow really big you tubers as I find them obnoxious and annoying . They all seem so fake to me.

I feel like the majority of those "gurus" are wearing extensions for length. :look:

Or maybe I am just feeling some type of way because my shrinkage is the same as it has always been in my nape and my hair, when curly, looks the exact same length that it did 3 years ago. :nono:

:lachen:

Thanks! I'll watch them more, then. I've only seen a few of their videos.

What? :look: I really like them though... and they're sweet as IDK what. I've seen some big time YTers in person and was shocked at the hot *** mess they looked. Not so much with the twinz. Kendra has more of my hair type and I find that I've often already purchased things they review. The first time I met them they were so beautiful... but lawd you needed a steak knife to cut that cake. They obviously like it that way because they clearly don't need it.

The Glam Twinz are usually on point with hair product reviews. When it comes to hair care, they're mostly legit. Not makeup tho...
