Would You Still Recommend The Pibbs Hooded Dryer?

Thank y’all!

My mama wants to know if it will dry her wash-n-go? I told her I wasnt asking that, because it’s a dryer, so... why wouldn’t it? But then she said that the Pibbs sucks up like a tornado, instead of blowing down, like most driers, so idk... Is it going to dry her wash-n-go?

@Crackers Phinn @Dee-Licious @starfish @blackmaven @PatTodd

The air in my Pibbs 514 does swirl around and not go straight down. When I’ve dried sans rollers Ive had to wrap a net around my head to keep the top of my hair from being sucked up.

I've had my Pibbs 514 for over 9 years; I can't live without it (I'm under it right now DC'ing :yep: I did have to replace the pole part a couple of years ago because the adjuster piece broke, but it's paid for itself 100x over. I roller set 2x a week.

During the period when the pole broke, I bought a cheaper Pibbs imitation on Amazon for around $89 and I regretted it right away. It had cheap parts (mostly plastic) and didn't dry my hair properly.

I have a 1960s hair dryer that has the hose and bonnet. I may have paid 30 or 40 bucks for it. I love it.

Had one of those in college until the same little one with superhuman strength that broke my Pibbs 514 visor off damaged the hose. Y'all I must've had that one for 15 years easy and it was great. I need to deep condition and get under the Pibbs or the steamer now but I don't feel like hearing the sound.

The Pibbs will dry your hair and neck well. lol

Make to use a hair net and towel around neck. It gets super hot

A million times this, your neck will be super hot. I just leave a large clean towel folded neatly there on it so I don't have to go far if forgotten, same with the steamer dripping hot water on you.

There's always more where it came from if you check on Ebay and Etsy. Mine was brand new in the box and made in the 1960s by General Electric. I deep condition and dry my rollersets with it and I can lay in bed or on my sofa while it does the job. It's so lightweight and convenient and if you close the bonnet all of the heat is concentrated on the hair so it dries it fast.

A little off topic but does anyone use heat protectant when under the dryer? I have never gotten heat damage from dryers so I guess it's not necessary. What temperature is the heat that the dryer is applying to your hair?

Busy looking for the best deals right now. Does anyone here have an idea where I can get a really good deal online please? Oh yeah, and what would be considered a good deal. I want the 514 Pibbs by the way.

Thanks so much for this idea. I've been looking for one to gift to a friend who travels a lot. She went natural and is doing beautifully but has no dryer small enough for her on the road lifestyle. And yes, I miss the portability and being able to lie down or sit any way I want with that one.

I have never used heat protectant to roller set and my Pibbs looks like it goes from 10 degrees to 70.

Yes, this is ideal for traveling. I took it with me on vacation several times and each time TSA was kind of weirded out by it because it looks funny on the x-ray screen so they pulled me over to do a manual inspection but once they saw what it was they laughed and let me go on through. The last time I traveled with it was about 4 years ago so I'm not sure if the rules have changed so you may want to inquire about it before buying it.

The only thing you have to be careful about is to make sure the cord is not faulty/damaged due to them being 50 years old now.

Great points and thanks for the heads up so I can make an informed purchase. Appreciate it. :)
