I get randomly drug tested at work. They take hair. So I usually let them cut nape area. :(

The last time was around 6 months ago. Ive been using xcel cream and castor oil. Sometimes I even twist it and just leave it for a few days.

I don't know if I have any pictures but I will post them tomorrow if I find them.

My nape or the back 2 inches of my hair are problem children. This area has the most curl definition but I think it is fine hair. It stays split no matter what I do. And it grows much slower than the rest of my hair. Two years ago my nape was sitting at my collar bone and my crown was 2 inches. Two years later, my nape is sitting at my collar bone and my crown is touching my nape :perplexed:

When I was relaxed this area always reverted first and broke first. In college every year it fell out around the same time of year. So yeah, my nape has always been a problem for me.

I have no suggestions just whoa as me tales

I'll see if I can post pics tomorrow.
my nape is the longest part of my hair right now.
No matter how much I cut it to match the rest of my hair which grows slower, it just sprouts.
I big chopped and had 2 inches of hair all over, last september.
now my nape is past collarbone, approaching armpit.... and I cut a significant chunk of it in May.

my crown is 4a, my nape and edges are a more delicate 4b. it's also prone to being really dry...
i don't moisturize that section like i should.

I don't usually take pictures of the back of my head but I did find 1.

You can see how scraggly the back is. It always struggles.

I wear it in a bun for maybe a day but I'm always worried that its breaking so I can't enjoy the bun.

I typically keep my hair in flat twist or 2 strands but my nape doesn't care. It splits and knots up and breaks no matter what I do.

I wonder why the nape seems to be such a struggle. I said maybe because that was the first part of the hair we relaxed ?

I remember I was using ecostyler gel and loving the weight because it gave me hang. After a month my nape area was shorter. Hair was breaking off as fast as it was growing in. I’d like my nape hair to flourish along with the rest of my length.

I just need to figure out how. My nape hairs texture is straighter there than anywhere else.

I'll post pics if I have time. I just really wanted to mention that my nape is always the longest part of my hair. I can always pull it over my shoulder and it is longer than the sides of my hair if they are hanging straight. I remember snipping a few inches off my nape from ssks, and it seemed to spring back overnight. The sides of my hair struggle more than nape. Idk why.

ETA: does this count?

My nape is as long as the rest of my hair. It’s never really been a problem area for me. But once I realized it was for other people, I started to pay special attention.

I mostly just make sure there is little tension put on the nape hair. Examples:

When I make a sleek low bun that needs to be held firmly: I take the nape out and braid it across and then wrap it around the bun.

High buns and puffs: I don’t try to catch the nape in the hair tie. I leave it out and lay it down with gel.

Even when my hair is in a messier style, if I have to wrap the hair tie around more than once, I only put my nape hair in the last loop.

I also only use satin scrunchies or thigh highs to make ponies, buns or puffs.

My front edges get a similar treatment. It just depends on how I’m positioning my hairstyle.

It must be long. Your hair looks sleek.

I twist my nape hair and run oil down it. I untwisted the three twists last night. Wash day is tomorrow for me so it’ll be free until then. I probably can just put my cornrow back there instead. Hmmm

I don't have any pics right now but my nape is the longest it's ever been since I went natural. It's also in the best shape it's ever been as well. It was not healthy when I was relaxed but I also had terrible hair practices. It currently stretches out to APL (measures about 9-10" I think?).
I honestly don't do much to it beyond making sure I only put it in 1-3 twists and leave it be. When I'm wearing WnGs, I try to keep it as stretched as possible to minimize tangles.

I'll get pics this wash day of it and will be back at some point this week!

Not wearing anything on my head to bed and, believe or not, not putting oil on my scalp back there has helped my nape the most. I sleep with on a satin pillow case. I also think cleansing more (I cowash more than shampoo) has helped too.

My nape used to be a struggle, both as relaxed and natural. I don't consider it a problem area anymore.

I Am So Blessed

I'm easy going.
My nape is the same as the rest of my hair and the same length almost. I never paid it any mind until this thread lol. My nape grows in a straight line across my neck as if I got a shape up. I got asked if I got shape ups once when I was younger.

One thing too is I never brush my nape. I think I may have brushed it 4 times in my whole life. Even when I do updos and buns I never bother my nape just out of neglect I guess.

(Pic with unbrushed nape)

Here’s my nape. I finally took a picture lol. My hair really loves itself, but I have to do stuff so it won’t tangle and picking everyday is not in my cards. I tried so hard to get a progress picture but this is as good as it gets, fat neck and all:lachen:
