ETA:
After all this time I just realized that APL is clearly at the bottom of the elephant's feet. Hur durr. At least now I have a good marker (because armpits shift when I'm holding my phone to take a picture).

What length are you now?
I'm collarbone length in back, about 2 inches to APL.
Chin length bangs and sides.

What's your regimen?
I do wash n gos for about 2 weeks and then I wear wigs for another 2 weeks as a protective style. While wigging, I do the LOC method at night every 2 to 3 days.
I am always looking for different, more moisturizing products and techniques, so this year, I would like to find some staple products to make my regimen simple.
Just a favorite oil and a favorite butter.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL?
I need to keep doing what I'm doing, because I'll reach it eventually....but I'm impatient, and would love to reach it sooner than later.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?
Long estimate will be that my back and nape will reach APL by April/May.

Short estimate is hopefully February.

I’ll have to take pictures of my bangs and sides before the end of this month.

I will be the protective queen of 2019. Kinky twists and braids. No more than 6 weeks at a time.

I will be using Xcel revitalizer. JBCO pimento oil and trimming every quarter or as needed.

I'm in.

What length are you now?
Full collarbone length

What is your regimen?
Cowash 4-5 times a week
Shampoo and DC
LOC daily
Redo mini braid or cornrows every 4-6 weeks.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL?
Protecting and smoothing my ends better. My hair looked it's absolute best last year in April/May likely do to the fact that I was using all the grease and oil. I was wearing a lace front wig through the winter that was drying out my edges and ends so I was using that grease and oil to combat that. My hair was much softer and less tangled now that I think of it. I stopped wearing wigs in the summer and therefore cut back on the grease in favor of curling creams and gel. I still retained but I lost some of the softness and sheen.

What month do you expect to reach APL?

September 2019

This is my hair in the various stages of a blow out for the length check. All of this was done on 12/29/18

I'm in as well.

What length are you now?
Just below collar bone

What's your regimen?
Wash and DC twice a month alternating moisture with protein treatments to keep my hair strong and healthy. Heavy moisturize and seal one to two times per week. Massage scalp 3-5 times per week using my scalp drops - sometimes I use Follicle Care Bambu for strengthening and sometimes Follicle Care Castor Argan Drops for growth.

What do you need to do/change to reach APL?
Take my vitamins and drink water more regularly. I fell down in these areas and need to pick it up a bit.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?
It looks like it could be around September or October 2019. As long as I hit it anytime during next year, I'll be happy.

Post your starting pic.

quick question!
I'm looking at everyone else's estimates which place them at APL by end of summer 2019/fall 2019, and
in general, we are all around the same length in here. (yes, I know we all have different growth rates and torso lengths)

I'm wondering if you are aiming to claim full APL by that point, or just when 2 or 3 twists can be pulled and touch APL.... i'm team "if the back of my head touches APL, stretched, then I hit my goal"

lol... I just want to manage my expectations and also see what the general consensus is.

I'm APL in the front and back. My sides and bang aren't so I'm in APL/BSL challenges for 2019.

If youre aiming for APL in back you can just put that and then graduate to the BSL thread @metro_qt

There really isn't a consensus which is why the original post says Post a picture of the area not APL. In the last challenge quite a few people were APL in the back and working on the sides and front.

I will claim APL when the lower section of the hair in the back reaches APL. But I won't be moving on to another challenge until the majority of the back is APL. I won't be waiting for my front or sides to reach APL. I just focus on the back.

readyyyyyyy to reach new lengths in the new year

:bounceline:

What length are you now?
My hair grows (and gets cut) in deep layers - chin/collarbone length in the front to shoulder length in the back. I am hoping to grow my shortest layers to APL and it'd be great if my longest layers were APL curly

What's your regimen?
  • pre-poo more consistently, preferably with @Chicoro pre-poo
  • cleanse x2
  • deep condition WITH HEAT (new holy grail: Alikay Naturals Honey and Sage Deep Conditioner)
  • LOCO method with shea butter - usually to twist or braid

What do you need to do/change to reach APL?
  • regular scalp massages with oil
  • be consistent with my regimen
  • more natural, ayurvedic products
  • experiment with different styles, especially ones where my hair is more protected
What month do you expect to reach your goal?
I am giving myself until April to reach APL in the back and December to see complete progress

Post your starting pic.

Are you ladies interested in making this an APL/BSB (below shoulder blade) challenge? There is a BSL/MBL challenge. I know for me there is quite a distance from APL to BSL for me and not feasible for 2019 but maybe if I make APL I can at least graze BSB.

If you aren't interested I can just keep it APL because I know sometimes it is nice to keep it simple.

Let me know.

I might already be at APL (haven't straightened in awhile) but my goal is more about being at FULL APL/BSB since I've had issues with thinning in 2018.

I guess I need to take some pictures to get an idea of length. I may try to flat iron my hair for a length check.

I started JJ Smith's 10 Day Smoothie Cleanse today. I'm hoping it helps me get my health in line and helps me grow a little more this year than last year. We shall see if I make it 10 days. I've made it 1 so I won't look too far ahead.

Currently have some raspberry, nettle, black tea and hibiscus leaves on the stove for a herbal tea rinse to use this week on my hair. I should get about 3 full rinses out of it.

I'm starting this cleanse on January 2nd @faithVA also for 10 days because my body needs it so badly.
