Hi ladies! I straightened my hair for the holidays so I'm posting my starting pic and stats

natural
starting length: WL
short term goal: WHIP
long term goal: HL
Bonus: TBL

For the new year I need to stay consistent with my regimen.

Keep hair in stretched styles (braids or twists under wigs), moisturize frequently.

Deep condition WEEKLY until short term goal is achieved then go from there.

No loose styles, NO WASH'N'GO until short term goal is achieved :nono:

Basically keep hair hidden for majority of 2019. I have been very lax the past few months and therefore haven't retained much length. I should already be WHIP length right now smh. Will get it together for the new year!

Sooooo...I have been using Rice Water on my hair for the past 2 weeks, and I LOVE it! I love how soft it makes my hair feel, so that it what I will use as my daily refresher spray. I will be mixing it with aloe vera juice, but I do need to buy an essential oil to mask the scent, so it will either be peppermint or lavender (or both :lick: ). I have been using it by spraying it on my scalp, both as a treatment, and also as a rinse.

The best way I like to use it is by shampooing my hair, spray the rice water on my scalp and hair and allow it to sit for about 3-5 minutes as I shower, rinse it out and apply my deep conditioner. My hair feels so soft and healthy.

I also made myself a growth oil concoction: JBCO w/Rosemary, Avocado oil, EVOO, and Unrefined Coconut Oil. I will be using this on my scalp 1-2 times a week, as well as my ends, and incorporating it into my styling regimen throughout the week. :yep:

I have been trying to remember all week what kinds of things I did in the past 2 years, before it fell out, to get my hair so long and full, and it was doing things like this, as well as using products made by Shea Moisture, Camille Rose, etc. Now...I will say, I have fallen in love with Care Free Curl Gold! It keeps my hair soooo moisturized and I love using it when I know I'm going to have my hair in a bun, and my hair has been fine while using it, I still see/notice growth and a regaining of thickness. I'm finding my hair loves curl activator products.

Not happy. At all.

Not starting the new year off on a good note concerning my hair. I pulled three double shifts because management has no idea how to schedule enough people to work the past three days. And it obviously isn’t something I do. I haven’t done that since my senior year in high school. The lack of sleep I experienced these past few days caused this, on the left side of my head.

I have everything else in check. Diet, I sleep often and well, and I compete in sports so exercise is on the list. I eat varied and often, so getting adequate nutrients is also on the list. Prior to starting this, I washed my hair and had low shedding, normal as usual. I go to wash my hair tonight, and I’m freaking out at how much hair is sliding down my leg.

I’m going back to 20 hour work weeks, considering I managed to chalk up nearly 50 hours from working these past few days, and I will NEVER do that again. If we are short staffed, and I’m scheduled to go home after my comfortable 6 hour shifts, I’m leaving. I don’t care if I get written up or whatever, I’m not sacrificing my health for money, or the fact that management has no idea what they’re doing. I think I slept a total of 7 hours over three days.

I’m very nervous to take this t shirt off of my head, and look at the left side of my head. This is very upsetting

(Sorry for the long link in my post. No idea why it’s attached to my paragraphs. Sorry)

@PlanetCybertron hey girl is everything ok? When you uncovered your hair was it bad? Your strands are long which could look like a lot of hair loss initially. I hope everything's alright. :giveheart:

It’s a small section behind my ear that is now rather short. It only reaches to APL. It blends in with the rest of my hair, but I know it’s still there. So it’s not too bad. I thought it came from a large section, but it seems to just be that small patch. I’ll upload a picture, when I get over my feelings lol. There’s no bald spot, but all the longer hairs in that section all seemed to have shed out all at once. I guess the newest hairs that I’ve grown from last year, held up alright.

Girl, stress is a serious hair killer! :nono: I'm so sorry you are also experiencing this. How about we buddy up in this challenge, and hold each other accountable for checking in weekly (no later that biweekly), with how we are caring for our hair and bringing it back to life :yep:

It will be back before we know it :D

Sounds like a good plan.
I’ve been thinking about just having a weekly wash day. I’ll pick Saturday or Sunday. Keep my hair in braids. Having my hair separated and contained in braids really helps with shedding. I had my hair in a bun during this bad shedding, and it didn’t really do anything, all it did was contain all those shed hairs. At least with my hair separated the shed hairs can just come on out without grabbing onto all the other hairs.

I’ll keep the braids in for a week, wash, put the braids back in, and repeat. Just tend to my scalp when needed and re-braid. That way when I do the weekly check in, it’ll line up with wash day.

Yay!!!

Well, as for me and my hair...

I am going back to my tried and true regimen of co-washing(co wash, gentle dentangle, wash n go) 2 times a week (Usually Mon & Wed) and have my wash days (cleanse, deep condition for 30 min-1 hour, style) on Saturdays OR Sundays. I am also doing internal work by drinking my water, taking all my vitamins, getting more, etc.

I also am starting to understand that my hair seems to enjoy light proteins, so I have my aloe vera juice/rice water refresher spray on my mix of oils on hands for the days in-between washes.

I did the spray mix, which I really like so far, and the oils today to refresh my hair today, and my hair feels so, so, so happy! :yep: I hate that I was not able to take care of my hair like I needed to last year, but this year, this baby is gonna be a very pretty tree!

I Am So Blessed

I'm easy going.
The following is everything that contributed to me having long hair.

.I prayed to the Lord for 21" of hair. I currently have 20"-21.5" on my head right now.:love3:

. Wash my hair with whatever.

. DC'ed with Hollywood Beauty Cholesterol with proteins and melted Shea butter added. (For slip & strength)

. I moisturize with curl activator.

.Seal with Blue Magic grease

.Leave hair alone for two weeks than repeat process. (I detangle every 7-10 days)

. I wear pin ups, chunky twists, buns and hats.

So it’s been almost a full week. Mostly just did a bunch of stuff to see what works. I think I have a simple, once again modified, routine:

I managed to jot down everything I’ve done over the past 7 days.

Day 1: shampooed roots only, co-washed finger detangled, no comb. (SM Manuka Honey conditioner), SMMH DC, used as a leave-in, did not rinse. Sealed with a cone serum.

Day 2: kept braids in

Day 3: kept in braids (re-moisturized with SMMH leave-in, LCO method)

Day 4: take down, co-wash (SMMH conditioner), Using fingers only no comb, cone rinse (if you’re wondering what that is, just ask), air dry, put back in braids.

Day 5: kept in braids

Day 6: kept in braids

Day 7: (technically today) No Idea why my wash days are so late at night.
full wash day:

Pre-Poo: Cacao, MuruMuru, and Cupucacu Butter mix that I bought from Etsy. (Which I will do a review on in a later post) Finger detangled. Super. Easy. OMG. Minimal shedding, no breakage whatsoever.

Shampoo: roots only (T-Sal Salicylic Acid shampoo by Neutrogena for dandruff)

Condition: SMMH conditioner. Detangled with Wet Brush for the first time ever, in shower, in four sections.

Deep condition: L’ Oreal Deep Treatment conditioner. Technically it’s only in the box that’s meant for dying your hair. Yes, I bought a box of dye only for the conditioner, I know, I have a problem. Lol. Mixed that, with my Elizavecca Collagen Coating Protein Treatment. Left on for 25 mins. No heat.

Rinse, let dry until halfway, still slightly damp.

LCO:
L-Rose Water Spray
C- SMMH leave in
O- Butter mix that I mentioned earlier to seal.

Parted my hair in two, installed two French braids that I’ve been wearing this entire week, as my protective style, sealed my ends with JBCO. Here’s what they look like: (I’m not the best when it comes to braiding).

Looking at it written down it’s seems like too much manipulation to my own eyes, which I had been trying to mitigate last year, but comparing just a week’s worth of trying out this regimen, compared to months worth of me being afraid to keep my hair in braids this long, I’m actually surprised my hair didn’t respond negatively. I was expecting to see increased breakage, but I’m also speculating that most of the breakage I experienced last year came from tangling, which was brought on by shedding.

And that Wet Brush. Bruh. I was straight up nervous to use a brush in my hair, let alone wet hair, since I had my first bad run-in with that goshdarn denman brush in highschool. (No shade to the ladies who love their denman brushes). Its technically my husbands brush, but it’s mine now. I see it every time I shower, and my curiosity got the better of me. I must say, that brush does a bang up job of catching all of my shed hair. I love my wide tooth shower comb, but I still have issues with tangles, since the teeth aren’t fine enough to completely separate all my hairs to loosen up the shed ones, but I often find myself at a cross roads because there’s no way I’m using a medium or fine tooth comb, and my fingers only help so much trying to be gentle handling sopping wet hair. So we will see how this Wet Brush detangling in the shower holds up for a few more weeks. So far, so good.

As much as I HATE admitting this, My hair is signaling that it’s comfortable in two braids, versus buns. I really love my buns. Like REAAAALLLYYYYYY, love them. Protective styles and everything, but I guess you go through phases of what your hair likes and what it no longer likes as you grow longer. Buns got me from NL to Hip, for some years, but perhaps braids will now get me from HIP to Classic. Only reason I don’t typically go for braids is due to the fact that, I’m a slow braider, and even slower when it comes to being gentle. Two braids takes me well over 15 mins. All the separating parting, and being gentle. But it’s worth 15 mins. So I’ll stay up late and braid if it means reaping the benefits, because this has been, hands down, the easiest week, and wash day I’ve ever had in quite a while.

Alright so about that Butter Mix I mentioned earlier.

First off, here’s the link:
https://etsy.me/2QnDajU

I’m in LOVE with this stuff. I’m completely willing to look over the fact that 4oz is 18$, just because their formula is awesome. While this isn’t Shea Butter, it’s now one of my favorites.

Mixture contains Cold Pressed Oils, Cupuacu, Cacao, and MuruMuru Butter. And I will be be buying more, because that container isn’t going to last as long as I think it will. It’s technically meant for your skin, but I was so interested in the ingredients, and I’ve never used any of the butters mentioned, but I’ve always wanted to.

Super light weight, they whipped this butter better than I whip my own butters. Deep, sweet, earthy, kind of Chocolate smell, and not heavy. I even went ahead and moisturized my scalp with it, and put a bit on my skin, mostly my tattoos since they require a bit more attention than the rest of my skin. Absolutely love this stuff, although it will mainly be for my hair.

I haven’t done a DC with this, but I just might to see how it goes.

Here’s a picture of how big it is. Not very big, and I have tiny hands, for what it’s worth, but worth a try in my personal opinion.
