I want to get crochet braids when I go on my cruise in April but I am worried about breakage. Has anyone here gotten crochet braids with locs or twists while retaining length?

I have seen a YouTube videos where people with long hair having to get a major trim after take down. My hair is short lol I need to keep it all

Otherwise I might just get a sew in.

What length are you now?
Possibly APL?

What's your regimen?
I wear my hair up in a clip daily as a protective style. I condition with ORS replenishing conditioner. I use Aphoghee 2 min reconstructor after relaxing. My hair loves protein.

What do you need to do/change to reach BSB?
I need to be more consistent. I need to sleep in my bonnet every night. I just need to put in more effort overall. I plan to get my first sew in. I think that protective style will help a lot. When I did crochet, I got a lot of retention. I'm thinking it will be the same with a sew in.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?

August

I'm getting ready to install some right now. I've worn them in the past with no issues. It might depend on what kind of crochet you're doing. I normally do crochet box braids or Senegalese twist and I re use the hair. I could see knots and tangles forming if someone was just using untwisted Marley hair or kanekalon. Hair that comes twisted or braided in the pack has never caused issues for me though because I can easily undo the loop.

You shouldn't have issues with crochet braids, you just need to take care of your hair while you wear them and don't try to keep them forever. If you are getting them for vacation, keep them for a month and then let them go. While they are in, keep your braids underneath moisturized.

I kept up my every other day rinse and condition while on vacation. Besides that nothing new going on. Measured my growth again today and I appear to get 1/2 inch every 6 weeks.

We are having some nice weather right now so going to boost my exercise to see if I can boost my growth rate.

Have you tried liquid biotin? It's been working wonders for me lately. Not miraculous, but just a tad less than one inch a month which is something else for me.

No I'm too scared. Just a little bit of biotin causes me to break out in a huge rash across my face. I tried doing a really small dose once a week and I was still breaking out. I may consider trying the Mane Choice vitamin in the spring if I can't improve it naturally. I break out with some many things I'm a bit nervous on trying any megadoses of things.

Me and my hair have just been cruising. Been doing a shampoo and DC once a week and cowashing 2-3 times a week depending on my work and travel schedule. I have no idea how long my hair is because my shrinkage is crazy right now. Still in my mini braids with wigs when I go out.

Finally showing my hair some love. Yesterday after work I applied aloe veranda gel and warm olive oil (to my crazy old dry dirty hair) finger detangled and did a mini scalp massage before I put in 2 flat twists which I Bobby pin together in the back. This style definitely felt super protective but I wasn’t that into the look of it. Planned to wash tonight but I’m so tired! Definitely gonna have to wash tomorrow though my hair has been itching from not being washed in so long. Trying to figure out what my routine is going to be this year, will definitely be incorporating More protein, Shea butter, and scalp massages.

Switched over to Giovanni So Chic Ultra Moisturizing conditioner. I think I will like it. It seems to make my hair a bit smoother.

I did a pull test with my nape and it seems to have moved a little bit.

Besides that nothing else going on.

My ends were really dry, so I moisturized and rebraided my 6 french braids. I had a few knots. I've been slacking a bit on the baggying, but still more aware of moisture than before.

I just refuse to wear short hair. I don't know if that is a problem or if its just a girly thing to want lots of hair. I don't mind the natural texture, but short hair does not fit my face or personality. I want to wear my hair out, but I will be putting in clip-ins

Do you have a plan on how to start your diet

I cleansed with Redken Cleansing Cream. I put my hair in 4 sections and saturated each section with diluted Giovanni Ultra Moisturizing Conditioner and put my hair into 16 bantu knots.

I am loving how simple this regimen is. When I finish this conditioner I am considering trying the same thing with diluted leave-in. We shall see. Conditioner is often far cheaper than leave-in.

Yes! Thank you :D .... a few weeks ago i was totally lost, but now i think im doing okay. I'm such a nerd you guys. I actually read through the little required Nutrition course at work instead of clicking through to the end for the CEU. It was extremely helpful with teaching where to get our nutrients and micronutrients.

Forks Over Knives, Eat to Live by Dr Fuhrman...Mic the Vegan on Youtube... Pinterest lol. I have acquired quite a few really helpful resources to help me meet our nutritional needs. I'm combining all the info now. I am already including more vegetables onto hubby's plate. He eats well, but its work to keep the colors in proper balance. I want to cut out meat and dairy for myself. I hope to lose a bit of belly and still have enough energy to run. Then and only then will I straighten my hair.... so here we go!

You can definitely do this. I have the FOK book and I saw Fuhrman on PBS years ago. I always remember his GBOMBS mnemonic. I have been eating beans for lunch daily since mid January.

You can definitely eliminate both meat and dairy and still have the energy to run since most of your energy comes from carbs. I stopped dairy years ago and I do meat just for dinner when I feel like it. I do a protein powder in my morning smoothie. I have plenty of energy. I don't run but I am walking twice a day. And today I was able to get my bike out on the road with no issues.

Looking forward to hearing about your wonderful progress.

I was supposed to henna yesterday but I realized I didn't have any amla. So I was going to color my hair with Surya Brasil tonight but after riding my bike for the 1st time this year I was worn out  I am very much out of shape. But I did do my water rinse and conditioner application and twisted my hair up. I think I will color on Wednesday or Thursday. It is supposed to be an ice storm here Wednesday so Wednesday may be a perfect day for it.

Today makes 4 weeks into my crochet braids. I still plan on taking out my hair the week of March 5th.

A full henna and then using Bekura products for about two weeks before I put my hair in kinky twists.

I'm debating whether or not to flat iron my hair to length check.
I say no. Flat iron to wear it out for your enjoyment or if you are 100% certain you have reached a goal. If just to length check just blow dry and call it a day. If blow drying doesn't get you to them lengthwise you want to be at you aren't close enough. That's just my opinion obviously. Lol.

I do flat iron for my end of year but I'm getting out of doing it any other time for anything other than my enjoyment.

The only thing I need to do is actually eat more and at the right time. This was the root cause of my slump in energy. I also have become more knowledgeable of nutrients and the need to vary our meals with basically the same things we usually pick from, but I feel more confident about why and what goes together.

I finally got around to coloring my hair. I have colored my hair since December, so it has almost been 2 months. That really isn't that bad. I'm glad I was able to draw it out since I hate coloring or adding henna to my hair.

I did a mudwash. I think the last time I did one of those was right before I applied henna in December. Next time I want to do it on a day where I'm not rushed. But it was nice to do. I enjoy mud washes. I wish there was a way to color my hair while mudwashing :yep:

After rinsing, I towel dried and used Surya Brasil Hair Color. I left that in for 45 minutes. I usually try to rinse in cool water but I didn't feel like being cold so I rinsed in warm water. I have Surya Brasil conditioner. I diluted that 1 oz of conditioner with 7 oz of water. I squeezed that into each section and then twisted my hair up.

The color was bleeding as always while twisting my hair. I'm not sure how bad it is. I didn't really care at that point. I just wanted to be done. I will take out these twist in the morning and put in some flat twist. Since the color is new I won't do my rinse and condition on Friday. I will wait until Saturday or Sunday to give the color some time to set. I may add more conditioner to my hair on Saturday and then rinse and condition on Sunday.

I wonder how long this color will last.
