I'm washing my hair today. I've been wearing it out for the last week so detangling took a little longer today. I'll put in twists but I don't know when I'll get to wash my hair again. I measured last wash day and my hair's reached 12-13 inches in most sections. Hopefully, I'll be able to get to 14-15 inches by December and that should get me to my longest length and allow me to be BSL-MBL. I'll try to add pictures later.

Nothing much new here process wise but I've been trying new products because I want to switch things that are easy to pick up and that I don't need to drive to get.

I've switched from Kinky Curly Curling Custard to Camille Rose Curl Maker with good results. The CVS near me has DevaCurl but only has the light gel so I'm not sure if that will work but I do like the large size.

Publix had a bogo on not your mother's naturals recently so I picked up the Royal Honey & Kalahari Desert Melon and Coconut Milk & African Marula Tree Oil Conditioners. So far I've only tried the first but it has great slip and my hair feels moisturized so I'm pretty satisfied.

I'd still like to find a replacement for Kinky Curly Knot Today.

So I'm pretty sure I'm not going to reach BSL/MBL this year. My mom accidentally cut off 5 inches of my hair when she was taking down my crochet braids the other day. So I have one side of my hair that is darn near BSL and the other half is barely APL. I guess I'll have to try again on this challenge next year.

Girl, there are 6 months left in this year!
I'm not sure what your normal growth rate is but you better get to pill popping, growth aid massaging and protective styling.
I know you're disappointed but I think you may still have time to make full BSL this year.
Just my 2 cents.

What? How does that even happen? You don’t need scissors to remove crotchet braids. I’m sorry that happened. I’m sending growth spurt vibes your way

I’m currently under the dryer with Masquintense dc. I haven’t washed my hair in over a month... It was time. I washed my man’s dishes, he washed my hair. I’m cool with it lol

It's awful that that happened.
There's still a lot of time left in the year, I think you could still make it and even if you don't you'd probably be really close. Best of luck :rose:

I was going to get a silk press this Friday, but decided against it. My hair has been acting weird as of late and I’m trying to pinpoint the issue. I think I have been changing up my products too much. My hair is growing, it just feels a bit off (mixture of dry, soft, and moist).
Hmmm...I haven’t chelate in a month. I guess I’ll do that this weekend.

What happened?

I just kept getting too scissor happy. Kept constantly doing trims when I didn’t need it. I end up jacking up the back, at the end of June so it was real uneven and noticeable when I wear it down so I end up having to even it out yesterday. I don’t have my hair shears anymore but I learned my lesson, will only be trimming my hair twice a year from now on.

I washed my hair yesterday but had to rush to put in chunky twists. They came out ok. I may make them smaller later. I've been trying hard to stick to a set of products and wearing my hair in twists for 2-3 weeks at a time to increase the moisture levels in my hair. I'll try to keep this up until the end of the year and see if it helps my progress. I measured a month ago and my hair is 13-15 inched around. I'd like it to see if I could get to 16 inches by the end of the year.

I'm bsl now. :) I also noticed that I'm full shoulder length.

So mini twists are a bad idea for me. They're very nice and versatile, but my hair was so tangled and I lost a lot trying to remove them. But it turns out that normal sized twists actually look good at this length. And are much faster to install/take down than plaits (my other weekly style) and are pretty versatile too. So I really don't need to have such small twists, especially since I prefer to wash once a week.

So my current regimen will be:
  • Wash once a week
  • Deep condition once a week with aussie moist, a DC pack (optional) and henna
  • Detangle with a wide tooth comb while rinsing out the DC. I'd like to try a detangling brush.
  • Put my hair in four big plaits.
  • The next day, either break down the plaits into 16 or more, put twists in, wear a bun, or wear a head wrap (new for me).
  • Moisturize whenever
Let me know if it sounds like a winner!
Btw, how do you determine where mbl is? Just to be sure.

Congratulations!!!! Your regimen sounds great. I agree with @keranikki on finding MBL. I think MBL is different for everybody. For me, BSL and MBL are the same lengths.

Congratulations on reaching BSL!:toocool:

As far as figuring out where MBL is, I just eyed where the middle of my back is (between top of shoulders to top of tailbone).

Thank you!

I feel like my hair hasn't grown/ retained or has maybe gotten shorter since I trimmed at the beginning of the year and I'm tired. I would like to see the retention I was getting a few years ago when I didn't care about length.

I washed my hair on Tuesday with Redken Cleansing Cream, as it really needed it (a build up of environmental dirt and product). After rinsing CR Coconut Water Penetrating Treatment, I tried out a Shea Moisture leave-in for the second time. I sealed with my whipped Shea mix and put in some twists to dry. Wore it tied up yesterday. Today I'm rocking a twist out bun. I want to put in some twists with added hair so that they don't look too scalpy but I dont know when I'll have the time.

I used to wash my hair multiple times a week, now I just don't have the time for that. Also, I was styling my hair with wigs and extensions. For the last 4 years or so, I wear wash and goes, sometimes styled up, but mostly with my hair down. It's like I have an idea what I should do to improve but I don't want to wear a wig right now and I dont have time to water my hair as much as it loves. So my next idea is to put extensions (twists) in and leave my hair alone again- also retained very well with this method.

The jury is out on whether being a straight haired natural is going to work for me. I’m hoping that I can also get passed my slump. It seems like I’m in the thickening phase of my hair growth, but I’m still shedding a lot.

I have noticed that any time my hair is straight, my shedding is minimized significantly. So cheers to a possible new path on the same journey... waist length hair.

@SAPNK How are you wearing your hair at the moment? Are you still rocking the Marley twists? I haven't worn them in years but that's the kind I plan on installing.

I have twists with my own hair right now. First time being comfortable with real hair twists. Up until a couple months ago, I was wearing Marley twists for 1-2 months at a time, with about a one week break in between, depending on how busy I was. Used about 5 packs of hair and it would take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours. I would moisturize them where the ends of my hair were and redo the front every 1-2 weeks. I started washing them and that's where I had problems. They'd be stuck together when uninstalling and I'd have to tear them apart. But to this day, I still don't think I was tearing at my real hair, just the marley hair. I'm also not sure of the impact they had on my edge situation, because the fuzziness of my 4c hair has been hiding that they've been a little sparse.
So honestly really can't be sure if it had any negative effects, but I know my hair grew. It's my favorite style and I will install them again soon.
