Avlon Texture Release Review

Thank you sooo much I ordered the kit and I’m looking forward to trying it. Was there a reason you did the protein treatments, i.e.; damage or loss of hair?

I used the protein because I’m just still following my normal hair routine and seeing how my hair responds now. I usually use light-medium protein weekly and heavy protein monthly. I’ve noticed my hair doesn’t like the heavy leave-in creams and Shea butter mixes right now. It likes the light weight leave-ins.

Sooo I applied this treatment today. My hair has always been super prone to reversion and I think it's 90 degrees outside today. My flat iron puffed up immediately and looks like a blow dry. A little disappointed, but I wouldn't mind if I could put my hair in a bun or ponytail. I can't for 3 days, so I'll be rocking a semi-afro for the next 3 days.

Hopefully when I wash it next there will be some curl loosening so I can tell if this did anything. I flat ironed with 3 passes per section on 450.

I'm sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. Do you think you used enough product on your hair? When I did my initial strand test, I didn't use that much product and it wasn't as loose as it is now. For the hair releasing lotion, did you sit under a dryer or a steamer? I sat under a steamer for that step. I also ran the flat iron down my hair slowly. What type of flat iron did you use, ceramic or titanium? I read that titanium flat irons give better results but I used the ceramic Sedu 1.5 inch original on the length and a ceramic FHI EPS 1 inch on the roots.

It's alright; I may have been expecting a bit too much. If it's hot enough for me to be sweating as I'm sitting down flat ironing there's only so much a product can do.

I definitely used enough product. I have a thick head of hair and I wound up using like 6 of the 8 oz of the releasing lotion. Did small sections and brushed through. I used a dryer and a ceramic flat iron because that's all I have currently but I may invest in a titanium iron.

I'm pretty sure the treatment did something because I was able to rinse it out of my hair without using sections (and I always have to do my hair in sections).

Regardless my hair is in a braid now because it was way too hot to keep it out and it's very soft and manageable. Hopefully my hair doesn't kink too badly since I'm not following the 'wear it down for 3 days' instructions anymore.

I used about 1.75 oz of the releasing lotion. I wonder did you over saturate your hair?

Maybe that was the problem. I found it really hard to get every small section like they said to with only 2 oz. I could see the product on every section after I applied it. Maybe that was too much?

I think you used too much product. I used a tint applicator brush & a bowl. For every section, I applied a small amount towards the roots & mid-section like doing a relaxer retouch, combed the product down the length, & also used my fingers to work it in. At first I didn’t think 2 oz would be enough, but it was.

Thanks for letting me know! I'll try applying that way next time.

So update: The 72 hours are up and I went to the beach (now open in my country). My hair stayed straight for a long time despite being soaking wet with saltwater.

I came home and washed it with sulfate-free shampoo and my hair has definitely loosened. I absolutely love it. It's gone from 4 b to 3a (?) in the front and from tight 4c to like 4a/3c in the back. Importantly, it looks even/natural all over.

I was able to wash my hair in 2 loose sections versus 10 twists. I used way less product. I put in some leave-in conditioner and a tiny bit of gel and I'm letting my hair air dry in a turban towel to try a wash and go for tomorrow.

I will 1000% do this again.

Would anyone happen to know if houseofbeautyworld dot com is a reputable Place to order this from? I’m ready to give this a shot.
And would the flat iron make a difference? I’ve never used one and don’t own one.

Actionbeautysupply.com is associated with the place I bought it from, which is Paul’s Beauty Warehouse. Avlon says titanium irons give better results but I know they get hotter than ceramic. I have a titanium flat iron but I use it on lower settings than my ceramic irons because I don’t want to risk heat damage.

I’m glad you’re liking your results. I find that I need much less conditioner & leave in products now.

Thanks! I’m going to get my sister to help me with this at the end of July. She volunteered the use of her Chi & her experiences hands. My first time using a flat iron probably shouldn’t be something like this.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get the 16oz releasing lotion and hair dilator? Everywhere seems to be out of stock of both those and the kit.

I was in Cosmoprof last week and the shelves with Keracare were basically empty. The saleswoman told me Keracare was bought out by L’Oreal. I know Avlon, Affirm, Keracare, & As I Am are all connected & under the same company. I hope this doesn’t mean all the products will be reformulated or some products discontinued.
That makes so much sense. And just when I was starting to use Keracare more exclusively. :( Can't rely on any product.

I’m still having a good experience with wash day and less to no tangles. My hair is still just like it was in the previous photos. Reading that things are changing with the companies that might result in a formula change makes me tired. I’m tired of trying to find products to help make wash day less of a chore- because as much as I love my hair, wash day can be a chore.
In the event that they actually do change the Release product or it becomes hard to find, are there other products that perform similarly?

Ok I just called Avlon & was told that it’s not true about L’Oreal buying Keracare from them. But she also said something along the lines of it may be broken up & bought by someone smaller but L’Oreal didn’t get Keracare from them. She also said the products shouldn’t be changing. So we shall see.
That's good to hear at least. Hopefully that means Texture Release is just temporarily out of stock for some reason.

As I reflect on my hair months later, I wouldnt do this treatment again.

The things I noticed are that it reduced the bulk of my hair . Its weird because my hair is fine already but you couldnt tell my hair was fine because I have a lot of strands until you put heat on it. Now that Ive had the treatment done, I can section my hair into four parts and easily smooth each part into a braid. In the past I had to make each section another section in order for the hair to not be so bulky and dry quicker. In braids my hair dries almost in 24 hours, when loose it still takes 2-3 days to dry.

The other thing I noticed is it made the very front of my hair super loose. I should have paid attention ( when I flat ironed it) because my hair in the front is loose prior anyways. Its slowly reverting now though.

The big deal that I noticed is it changed my porosity slightly. My hair can now take coconut products being left in. Prior to this treatment my hair hated coconut with a passion if left in. I still have issues with shea butter absorbing fully but I've used a few products with coconut oil and it didnt make my hair hard. I still err on the side of caution though .

All in all, it was an interesting treatment but its not something I would continue with going forward.
