Knotless Braids

I've had them for a little over a month now.. I never wash my braids, no braids I get, washed them years ago and my hair was so matted that, I nor the braider could remove the braids without cutting them. I just spray a little oil sheen here and there and always wear a silk/satin scarf at bedtime.

Bumping for info on braid maintenance. Will be getting some braids next week.

I forgot I made this thread. Because of covid I just got my braids this week.

I plan to make this diy spray to use every few days: https://thecactuscreative.com/2018/03/18/diy-natural-braid-spray/

I have some Shea Moisture No Rinse Foam Cleanser, (which unfortunately I can't find anywhere now to repurchase) I'll use every other week or cleanse my scalp with witch hazel if I run out of that.

I'll probably do a super diluted wash with co-wash at the month mark, maybe earlier depending. Lots of YouTube videos on how folks do that. I've washed my hair in twists before so I'm not concerned about matting.

The girl who did mine offers a touch up so I'll get the perimeter redone at some point based on how they are looking.

Hey ladies! I'm a month in with my knotless braids. I washed them today with the tiniest amount of of Trader Joe's Tea Tree Shampoo. I've been oiling my scalp every other day and sleeping with a scarf every night. I'm going to push for another 4 weeks with these braids. If I was going into the office, I would probably need a touch up but for teleworking the new growth is just fine.

Great timing ladies. I’m getting knotless braids mid August and hope to get at least six weeks out of them

I concur. Haven't had braids in decades, but finally decided that it's time to re-engage.
Are lemonade braids similar to knotless?

I just hit a month on mine. No touch up. I honestly don't need one (plus I think my braider caught the covid and she cancelled my touch up appt...anywho...) I'm thinking they'll be good until end of August. They'll definitely last past 6 weeks. I was a little worried because a friend said she felt they didn't last as long. I'm thinking it's her braider or her maintenance.

I spray them every other day-ish with my DIY spritz. Not oiling my scalp (but I don't do that normally anyway). I diluted some cowash and used a foam pump bottle to cleanse last weekend. Followed up with plain water. I use witch hazel occasionally as well.

I’m on my second install. Due to hair growth, my first install lasted almost 4 weeks. It just wasn’t presentable for the work environment. During this 2nd install, I’m back to teleworking, so my goal is to keep the braids in until mid-September.
I mainly M&S my scalp and braids daily. I started washing my scalp weekly, then washed my braids on the third week. I should have never washed the braids. My hair was so frizzy to me. I even tried to gel down the braids to reduce the frizz. It didn’t work.

Are you ladies doing them yourself or going to a salon? How long does it take to install? Any ballpark prices to know about? TIA

A lady charges $270 for waist length medium-sized knotless braids. Hair provided. Gosh, these things are expensive.
Is this a reasonable price?

It depends. If you’re in a metropolitan area, the price is a little too high, especially if it’s not full service (wash/condition included). Waist length should be between $175-225.

It’s an extra $15 for wash and blow dry. In the Raleigh area.
Yea, that’s expensive it seems.

I would love to get knotless braids. My stylists had them and they were gorg! Absolutely perfect! But, she charges $400 for waist length-tailbone length! They were small. Not micro but small. I can't justify paying that for braids that'll only last 6-8 wks.

I got my knotless braids on June 27th, the week the braiders opened after the quarantine. They've held up pretty well, but I'm taking them out this weekend. I've washed them a handful of times with African Royale's spray on braid shampoo, moisturized/conditioned with a half and half mix of infusium & braid sheen, and then put some foam on the roots and tied it down. I try to moisturize at least every other day with my mix, but i haven't been good with that. I paid $150 not including hair. I would do them again, but I'm going to give my hair a rest and see if I can find someone to do butterfly locs, maybe in October or November. It took about 3 to four hours, but I had at least 2 people working on my head at the same time.

Unfortunately, this will be my last install. $225 every 4 weeks for braids is not going to work for me. My hair grows too fast and the braids look frizzy. I was thinking of getting smaller braids, but who is going to remove them? I'm taking my braids out this weekend and will come up with another protective style plan.

Is it the braider's technique maybe?? I feel you on not wanting to go smaller.
