Hello all

I am 8 months post relaxer (due to lockdown) and may relax at some point but have been looking for other ways to maintain the 2 textures in the meantime.

Any recommendations for heat protectants to use with Revair for a frizz free and soft finish?

Any idea on settings for the dryer also? This will be my first time using it.

Thanks

I have used all kind of protectants. The ones that seem to work great are Kerastase Therapiste Serum (best), Olaplex Bond Smoother and Smooth Elements Olive Oil Heat Protectant. I have use a lot more just to try to use some up but these are my top favorites. The Smooth Elements can be a bit greasy though.

I am a 4a in the front and back and 4b in the middle. I use the low heat setting (not the neutral position setting which I think is cool) first and, then when it is almost dry, I use the high heat setting. I have the tension set on 6.

Since you are dealing with new growth, you may have to flat iron the top if you have halo frizz. I usually just flat iron a very thin section at the top, on the roots to get rid of the halo frizz.

I second the Olaplex no 6

My Revair Review:

I washed today after taking down the plaits that were in for 6 weeks.

I detangled the plaits with water, Giovanni direct leave in and coconut oil. I left on a plastic cap over night.

I washed with As I Am Coconut Co-wash then steamed and detangled with As I am Hydration Elation.

It took a long time to detangle in sections. I will probably relax at the end of August. I am 8 months post at present and this process was too difficult as the As I Am Hydration Elation conditioner can usually make the comb glide through, but not this time!

I t-shirt dried for 5-8 mins, added the As I Am Leave In and then a bit of Giovanni Frizz Be Gone in sections to use the Revair. It wasn’t moisturised enough. I then added Camile Rose Milk Leave In on top of the As I Am then the Giovanni Serum which was a little better.

The relaxed parts came out very straight, straighter than when I usually blow dry being that I am texlaxed and it usually remains frizzy. But the natural parts still had lots of texture and didn’t feel as soft as the relaxed part.

However, I realised that I should only use up to setting 4, not too much product, and a mixture of low and high heat for a max of 60 seconds. My ends tangled a few times on a higher setting.

It doesn’t really straighten the roots that well at 8 months post but after a headscarf tie down and Camile Rose Butter added lightly to the top it was much better.

If anyone has any more recommendations for heat protectants that leave the hair very soft and moisturised, can fight frizz and can better straighten 4b roots that would be much appreciated.

I used no products and I used my REVAIR on 5. I found that it got my hair straight, my roots straight and no issues :)
I also used WEN to cowash.

What’s your hair type and what heat setting did you use? I’m looking forward to using my RevAir for the second time next month and will be experimenting with a lower tension next time.
TIA!

What kind of finished result do you get? Is it the result you hoped for?
TIA
I use Aphogee liquid leave-in conditioner. It has heat protection already incorporated in it. I start off on 5 low heat then 7 high heat for last 20-30 seconds
