i went through a lot of old photos of my hair to see that I have been hovering around APL for years. I went from barely shoulder length to APL in 2016 and have had photos around APL since then. I have small setbacks and end up back at the same place over and over. I don't think I ever realized that I've been around APL all this time.

Hopefully you won't have any more setbacks and can get over this hump.

I'm just popping in to say hi  I posted in March that my hair broke off crazily. Then it grew out some. But I got it shaped up 2 weeks ago, so that dropped it back down to 2 inches. So not anywhere close to reaching any goals. But it is good to have my hair even again with a nice cut. I'm enjoying the simplicity of it. With this short cut I notice I'm not really interested in length. I just want it to look even when I walk out the door

If I get a good picture I may just hang out in here with you ladies. Thanks for keeping the thread going.

faithVA !!!! HI!!!!

What happened to your hair (if you don't mind my asking)? I wish I had a solution. I'm sure it looks really good with the cut! I enjoy even hair at any length. It always looks so lush and healthy.

You may not be reaching length goals, but it seems like you're accomplishing health goals. That's equally beautiful.

I am hoping for a photo. We love photos :D I hope you're not going crazy with the corona isolation.

Awww thank you! I hope so too. I'm definitely going to do my bentonite clay mask trick before cutting it for now on. I put it on yesterday. This stuff works to mend my ends every time. I'm going to trim in the fall as normal and keep it growing. I only cut what is necessary in each small section. I'll worry about how even it is as it passes BSB (ETA: this is only referring to me. I'm thinking of what I've been doing to my hair for the past million years). I just have to keep things steady and my hairstyles kind of puffy :D I've grown to adore this puffy cottony texture that I have. I used to be embarrassed to wear it natural in public. That's gone.

Hey @apple_natural. Thanks for the welcome. I feel so special

My hair just broke off in chunks in March. One week it was shoulder length and then the next week it was half the length and then the next week it was a fro :perplexed: As I cleansed my hair, my hair just broke off in big chunks. Not really sure what that was about.

I was supposed to get it cut in March but with covid-19 wasn't able to get it done until 2 weeks ago.

No I'm not going crazy. I'm a bit of a loner so I'm not having any separation anxiety. How are you holding up?

Your hair needs a whoppin. There was no reason for that tantrum. Have you considered supplements? Are you maybe anemic needing iron? Or maybe some hormonal balancing supplements like a evening primrose oil? I'm obviously big on supplements and nutrition :D

Regarding COVID isolation, its driving me insane. I don't like feeling cooped up. I like to see people face to face more than I realize

What length are you now?
Shoulder

What's your goal length for this challenge?
APL

What's your regimen?
Wash 1-2x per week
M&S nightly and oil scalp
Olaplex treatment 2x month
Ovation Cell Therapy 2x month

What do you need to do/change to reach APL/BSB?
My biggest issues and setbacks are from my awful HIH. I was very stressed this year and constantly messing with my hair and scalp that resulted in a lot of breakage and me twirling my hair. I just finished my BSN and will deal with stress more effectively in the future.

What month do you expect to reach your goal?

December 2020

Post your starting pic.
Taken today and wow putting on a shirt that is not a scrub top is humbling. Need to get waaaaayyyyy back on my diet and fitness game.

henna gloss - put on last night and rinsed out this morning. put on oil and twisted it all up. i sprayed aloe vera juice on the back two parts. i think i put in apple cider vinegar the first time I put on a henna gloss. this time, my hair wasn't hard like a straight henna treatment that i've done before, but it doesn't feel so super soft like the first time i made a henna gloss. i do think it is breaking (pre-henna), but i am not sure if it really is or if it is simply a weeks worth of shedding along with damage from manipulation.

I would love to join this challenge. I know it is over half the year but I have been working on growing out my undercut for a year now.
My end goal is Waist Length and NOTHING longer. I been there and done that and I don't need the extra headache. I might reduce it to BSL because I truly just want to have easy mornings and wash days.

Good Day :) how are you?
Thank you. Good to see you as well.
It has been a long time and so much has transpired.
Life ups, downs, pits of hell and back. I pray all has been well for you.
Life has probably been the same for me.. up/down, etc. And yes, a lot has transpired. All is well now!

Measurement: 11.5 inches.. pulled, not flat ironed
Regimen Addition: msm and vit c daily
Protective Style Change: i was thinking of putting in braids for at least a month to 2 months... or just twists once a month
.. i just want my hair to grow. im hoping for 5 inches by the end of next March, but if I don't do anything that works, I'm only going to gain 3 inches :(... not as good. i will end up with 17 inches by the end of next year at this rate, but I want that much by summer. -_-

Keep wearing scarves. Use less oil on scalp, but keep oiling scalp. Keep moisturizing braids. Keep taking supplements until they are finished even if you don't think they are working. Keep drinking water. Try to do some exercise..... I hope to get 5 inches by March, but even if I don't. I think I will have the length I want by this time next year. I want to have about 17/18 inches before doing protective styles with only my hair and not using extensions. I guess that is my goal right now - Having enough hair to like hairstyles without extensions.

I've completely changed up my styling. I no longer blow dry weekly with my Revair. My hair needed a nice break the ends were starting to wear out. I've been washing weekly and apply kimmaytube leave in and massive amounts of shea butter. My hair has never been so defined and soft. I make 4 twists and pin them into a bun or use a silk scrunchy. Sometimes I refresh in the middle of the week. But I mostly don't need to.

From December 2017 to April 1, 2018 my hair grew A TON. This whole year, I barely got any growth at all. I have had another period of time when my hair grew at ton in 4-6 months. I thought it normally did. This year... IDK what is going on. I barely got any growth at all from December 2019 to now. I barely grew 3 inches. Something is wrong.

Differences between then and now...
I was not taking my iron this spring and summer - restarted in August 2020
I was doing crossfit the winter of 2017-2018 - I'm kind of lazy and disorganized, but I need to work in exercise somehow because this is serious.
I was using edge regrowth spray, but not the first time I noticed a similar growth in that time span - restarted this tonight.

I put on that same edge regrowth stuff tonight just in case, but I don't think its that. I think the major reason I got so much growth before was because of the first two things, which are both blood related issues. I need to get some oxygen rich blood flowing. Well... good I could stand to lose some weight anyway. I'm more likely to keep exercising if I think its helping my hair. I think I said this same thing that year too.
