Cost Effective But Neat, Polished Protective Styles

Before co-vid I used to buy my custom wigs yearly at like $900 each and then wear those daily. I would just get my own natural hair cornrowed under my wig. I don't like to manipulate my hair more than once every three weeks because my hair grows slowwwwww. I didn't really like it because my own scalp doesn't get a chance to breathe. I'm also very active so I don't like to worry about my wig falling off, although I use comb attachments. I usually like braided or loced styles with extensions.

I like my hair to look polished at all times with minimal effort. The wigs can be a bit high maintenance with curling or setting with flexi rods. Although, with braids or locs I can just get up and go. I tend to go to my hairstylist every 4-6 weeks. The only thing that bothers me is that it is so expensive! She charges me $300 for install and then I have to buy hair. I usually don't mind because she honestly does a very good job. The style looks beautiful and she doesn't pull my hair too tight. Can anyone think of a cheaper way for me to look good with minimal effort?

Have you tried buying regular wigs? I don’t know how a $900 dollar wig looks, but $20 and up wigs are nice too. Lol, I generally buy 5-6 wigs I like online at once and see which ones I like the most and return the rest. Making your own wigs using crochet or doing quick weaves is also an option. It may be easier to create a neat, natural looking wig if you use braids or locs.

Have you tried just searching for other providers/stylists? I don’t understand why you’re paying so much. I buy human hair wigs for under $250. What do these $900 wigs look like? That style in the op I can also have done for under $200 (hair included). So is this a matter of you living in a really expensive area? If so, maybe travel outside of it every few weeks to get your hair done… You can buy wigs online, AliExpress even… Shop around; don’t just hand over any amount of money because you have it.

I'm not sure actually. I live in NYC. I usually go with IG stylists. The wigs I like actually look realistic. I don't like "wiggy" looking wigs

Do you have some wig recs that you can post?

EDIT: The last wig I bought was for 600. These wigs usually last me for years BTW. I have one now that I've had for about 4 years.

Tell me what kind of wigs you like to wear. If lace, what type of lace?
