My schedule is pretty simple, but I plan on trying the Capillary Schedule . I'm also doing ayurveda so I'm going to modify my ayurvedic routine to include the appropriate ingredients on the right days and see how it goes.

Pretty calendar!☺️ Yes, your routine should be simple since you’re at a very nice length. Once I reach there, I believe mine will be simple as well. What is Capillary Schedule?

Thank you! There are some add-ons that allow you to jazz up your Google calendar so I'm taking advantage of that. :)

BTW, I just updated the calendar in my previous post so that Sunday and Wednesday's routines are reversed.

@Lucia created a post for the Capillary Schedule (I posted a link to the thread with my calendar). It's a Brazilian hair scheduling program whereby you schedule hydration, nutritive, and reconstructive (protein treatments) into your hair routine. It was created for curly girls, but I think that it works for all hair types. The long and the short is that it works well for people who don't have a proper hair schedule in place. Typically you wash your hair three times a week rotating the three types of hair treatments as per a pre-set schedule based on your porosity or hair's needs, but I think that I only want to wash my hair twice per week.

Are you making your own ayurvedic masks?

Thank you for sharing the details! :) I starting to make my own oil and masks. I only do fenugreek masks for now since hair is in braids. I’m hoping sometime this year I’ll transition to buns. I want it to be a certain length first. I’ll do more masks and start henna treatments :) What about you?

That's so cool! I like DIYs. I make my own cleansers (clay masks and herbal teas), oils, and moisturizers. I want to try to tailor my ayurvedic masks so that they match the Brazilian schedule so heavier on certain ingredients on certain days instead of just randomly using things like I have been. We'll see how April goes.

You really know your stuff! That’s amazing you do all those DIY, congrats :) I will definitely be doing the herbs at random at first, lol. When I get used to a new routine without braids, I’ll dive deeper to tailor them to my needs and really pay attention to what has the best effects.

Do you know EOs or method to rid the scalp from odors from herbal products. Some Ayurvedic herbs do not have pleasant scents and I also want to use onion oil, but the smell is too offensive to those around you. If you know any tips, thanks in advance! :)

I have essential oils but I don't like using them because they're so strong in scent and also quite potent. Some shouldn't be used if you have certain medical conditions. But those herbal smells are strong.

For my lotions I use fragrance oils. They're more subtle and come in fun scents that you don't have to mix. Basically, they're artificial scents that you use in soaps and lotions.

Ask me why it only occurred to me this year to add the fragrance oils to the clay and ayurvedic mixes? :look: Now my hair and scalp smell "great" and the scents aren't as sharp as EOs.

Ha! So I updated my calendar again, but I think that this is it!
So, instead of doing the schedule 2 days per, I'm going to do it 3 days per week like you're supposed to.

Today: Washed with yucca root + reetha (soap nuts), bath tea (Red Rose Flower, Chamomile Flower, Lavender Flower, Spearmint Leaf, Rosemary Leaf, Juniper), and horsetail. Followed up with moisturizer and tallow to seal.

Nice! Really want to be consistent with Ayurvedic products for every hair use. Right now my shampoo is a Malibu C Hard Water Welness Shampoo. It truly makes your hair feel amazing. I’m trying to figure out how often I should wash with it. Some say to stick to one shampoo. I’m trying to figure out the Shampoo Reggie in the weeks to come.

Thank you! And likewise! I can't wait for you to announce some milestone achievements this year.

I completed the Wednesday hydration routine: Kaolin clay +ayurvedic herbs, cocoa powder, conditioner, honey, and protein. It was my first time trying something so involved but I liked the results.

I didn't follow up with as much moisturizer as I normally would, so my hair doesn't feel uber soft, but it does feel nice.

Your hair treatment sounds tasty! Lol Never heard of cocoa powder for hair, I guess chocolates is good for everything :) Yes we have to remember moisture to prevent breakage of ends. Im working on remembering this.

Thanks for the motivation :) It’ll be exciting to see where I’ll be in June, that’s my next LC. Goal for the end of the year is MBL

My last DC was aloe straight from the plant. Do you use aloe plant. It’s a great moisturizer, makes hair feel sooo soft!☺️

I didn't add as much moisturizer to my hair because i was a bit heavy handed with the conditioners. I used them as raw ingredients, so not conditioner from the bottle but BTMS and ceteryl alcohol themselves. My hair felt a bit slick even after rinsing out my hair (I didn't follow up with shampoo) and so I didn't want to add too much other stuff on top of that. I'm pretty much no-poo so a second lather isn't part of the routine. Otherwise, if you see how much moisturizer I normally use. :nono: I'm so heavy handed with my products.

MBL will be such a huge milestone! I can't wait to celebrate it with you!

I have tried aloe from the plant over the last few months and I like it. I spent close to 10 years avoiding it because my hair hates products with aloe in it, but I realize that the raw aloe behaves so differently than the stuff you buy in a bottle at the grocery store or the oil, or the powder (extract), etc. I haven't been consistent with it because I keep forgetting to add it to my grocery list. Thank you for the reminder! I'll add it this week.

When you use it as a deep conditioner do you mix it with anything? Do you steam with it in? How do you use it? I've put it into my clay masks (with ayurvedic herbs) and then leave the mask on for 20+ minutes, depending on what I'm doing at the time.

Interesting what is BTMS and ceteryl alcohol? Ceteryl alcohol sounds drying because alcohol is in the name. You really know a lot of DIY! That’s amazing :)

Yes, MBL would def be celebration worthy if achieved this year :weird:

Aloe straight from the plant is like liquid gold! Nothing like the bottles at all, it shouldn’t even be called aloe lol. I use it two ways, as DC with heat and leave in gel/moisturizer. I don’t rinse it out when I DC with it alone on clean hair. I’ve only done it 2 times now and really like, Hair is sooo soft! :). I also blend it with my Fenugreek DC. Its a nice consistency. I love having the feel of conditioner without all the chemicals. When you use aloe straight from the plant there is no need for straining. When I lightly blend it alone or in combo, I always strain it and it’s still slimy. I believe the awesomeness is in the slime, lol. If it’s too runny, I believe it looses its maximum benefits. Definitely don’t forget to buy this week and tell me how things went! :)

When I DC with aloe alone, it’s straight from the plant, so there’s nothing but aloe. I rub into scalp and hair. When used with Fenugreek, it’s used with seeds that have been soaking for a week in water. The water usually has some EOs like PPO, Rosemary, Teatree, or Eucalyptus. I might put a drop of ACV and Coconut oil or Avocado oil in the Fenugreek water. It’s all new, so nothing has really been the same every time I’ve done it a few times so far. If you have better ideas, def share! :)

I need to use clay masks to detox scalp. Not sure how to incorporate into hair routine since I’m just starting. Don’t want to do too many things at once. You have any suggestions for the best scalp and hair folicle detox(es)? I’ll try to start clay masks in June :)

Both the BTMS and Cetearyl Alcohol are emulsifiers and conditioners. This kind of alcohol is actually safe to use. This article will explain more about good and bad alcohols.

Cetearyl Alcohol, also know as Cetostearyl Alcohol, is a vegetable-derived fatty alcohol mixture of approximately 30% cetyl alcohol and 70% stearyl alcohol. It is commonly used as an emulsion stabilizer and thickener. It gives an emollient feel to the skin and a conditioning effect to hair.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a vegetable based conditioning emulsifier. It can be used to emulsify lotions and scrubs but is more commonly used to make hair conditioners.
Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the natural plant oil Colza, or what is commonly known as Rapeseed Oil. It offers excellent detangling and conditions without the build-up often seen with other conditioning quaternary conditioning agents. BTMS-50 is capable of emulsifying high levels of silicone, and is also a fantastic emulsifier for use in skin care products.

I don't buy store bought hair products for myself and haven't in years. Basically, since the company I was relying on closed down for a few years.

Oh wow! I've never thought to try leaving aloe vera in my hair. I guess it wouldn't dry hard or crispy because it's mostly water.

In terms of clay masks, my favourite is kaolin clay. I find it the easiest to work with though the first time around it can be tricky if you've worked with rhassoul or bentonite. That's because it requires less water than the others. The amazing thing is that when you mix it, it mixes like lotion. So smooth and creamy. You can add a tiny amount of apple cider vinegar (ACV) to it to lower the pH if you'd like. I just use goat's milk powder with mine and that seems to work.

Today, I did a banana mask (using baby food) and added inositol and babassu, murumuru, and capuaçu oils.

I still need to moisturize and seal.
