When tying your hair up at night (or in general) do you prefer a silk or satin scarf? and why? My friend says satin seems to lay her roots down flatter...I've always just used silk...for no special reason. Want to find out what everyone else is doing...

I like my silk scarf. It's a long rectangle scarf, so I have no problems in keeping it on my head for the whole night. The satin scarfs that I bought from the BSS would always fall off! :ohwell:

co-signing here. my silk scarf never falls off. the satin scarves i've bought in the past would always fall off.

if i don't wear a scarf, i will put my hair in a high loose bun(pinned. no hair ties) and sleep on a satin pillowcase.

I noticed a difference the first time I wore my silk scarf. My hair was less dry in the morning. I think the satin BSS scarves soak some of the product/moisture out of my hair. Not near as much as cotton but a little compared to the silk. I still wear the bss scarfs to tie my hair down while its drying. And I use the satin bonnets.

Satin weave can be made of silk fabric or any type of polyester so it depends. All satins aren't equal.

see i can be heavy handed with product, so that is why i choose BSS scarves over silk.

Just an FYI--silk is a material, satin is a weave. Some satin scarves are made of silk. Most of the BSS brands are satin scarves made of polyester or nylon. I prefer satin made of silk because the polyester scarves can be too "slippery" and usually find their way off of my head overnight.

I use the satin ones from the BSS/Walmart. It does help to flatten my edges. My hair also feels more moistured the next day, even though I sleep on a satin pillowcase nightly.:sleep2:

my BSS satin scarf falls off, plus my hair would poke thru the material and I hated how that felt. Now that I've switched to a silk scarf my hair lays down and is much more moisturized. It still falls off, but now I put that mesh/ velcro wrap around it and I don't have any more problems

I use silk because it allows my scalp to breathe, so I feel like it's healthier. But my polyester/nylon bss satin scarves stay on much better.

I wear three scarves at night, yes, you heard that right, a silk one, another silk one, then a satin bonnet, I like both.

I started off using polyester material scarves, then I went on this all-natural material kick and felt that it would be better to use silk, so I have only silk scarves now. But now I honestly don't think it matters. All that matters is that you are reducing hair breakage. I have a dominican friend who never wears scarves to sleep and her hair was down to her waist. She cut it because she didn't like it that long, and now it's almost back there again.

I used both but I now prefer the BSS satin..polyester/nylon material better then the silk..it smooths and lays my hair down much better.

I am sure that both protect the hair, but I have difficulty keeping the satin scarves on. Pure silk scarfs stay on better, and feel weightless, I don't even remember I have them on
