"As reported by the UK Times Online, L'Oréal has been found guilty of racial discrimination by France's highest court, La Cour de Cassation. Some specific claims against the cosmetic giant:

  • Recruiting "BBR" staff (bleu, blanc, rouge--the colors of the French flag), a known term for those with purely French heritage

  • Faxing a memo that all Garnier hostesses should be 18-22, wear size 38-42, and be "BBR"

  • Candidates for employment at the L'Oréal agency were said to be 38.7% minorities, but only 4.65% of those hired represented minority backgrounds.

  • Employees said they were told to favor a white staff

Though company reps claimed that the requests were meant to source applicants who could speak French fluently and represent the brand eloquently, the court found that L'Oréal's racial favoritism was in violation of employment laws.

The company met its first sign of trouble last summer when it was accused of lightening Beyonce's skinin ads she appeared in for various L'Oréal products."

Discuss Ladies :yep:

I added a poll ladies, tell us if you will still purchase products from this company!

That sucks! Boo! I'll try to boycott them as much as possible, although I'm sure there are other companies with the same policies

Yup I believe it.. because everytime I see a minority as the spokesmodel they look more and more European every time... Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, the Indian girl from Slum Dog, and the spanish chick from Desp. Housewives. That ain't no coincedence. Only bad thing is my hair loves some Garnier and there aren't too many products my hair likes.

How delightful - I don't buy any of their stuff, already. Is L'Oreal a subsidary of Nestle? That would explain it.

Boycott? Puh-lease. They could be lynching negroes in the town square but as long as their products define a chick's type 4 "curls" she'll keep on buying them.

I'm not surprised at all. They ain't the first company to do this. Won't be the last. This is really unfortunate.

No surprise. There's been much said about them in the past, and just looking at their hair color boxes made me wonder. I don't use them, but now that I have a great reason not to, I'll tell all my friends why they shouldn't use them. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for article. This isn't a surprise though. From their national laws (esp on citizenship), the way Africans and Caribbeans are treated and the current state of many francophone nations - this is just another example of where France (and Europe) emphatically stands when it comes to race.

even though i am slightly offended by the dishonesty, i dont feel its my place to tell some how to run their business (who to hire and fire). if they don't want me (or my kind) thats their loss ;)

I knew something was fishy with them. A friend got me on to their consumer testing and it seems I never get picked. Sometimes with the surveys Ill get as far as age and race before it says "you are not qualified for this study". She on the other hand is Egyptian but puts Caucasian on her studies and goes at least twice a week.

Well I can take Mizani and Matrix off my list which is fine since there are so many other lines I want to try. I'm going to try not to use as much as I can from this company.

I hope Bey feels like she has enough money that she move on from this company.

The only thing I purchased and used was Redken butter treat...and I was looking for something else after I used it up anyway...any recommendations for leave-in conditioner?
