One Celeb Stylist I Would Never Let Touch My Hair

Ted Gibson :lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:he is the same one to give Kate+8 the hideous (imo) hair extensions.

I was watching what not to wear today and I wished I could've jumped in the screen with my claws out at him.

He was styling this womans curly hair but it was bad technique. Her hair was barely wet after the color job and he started brushing through her curls with a mason pearson type brush (from top to ends instead of ends to top, and that is actually the pro way to detangle any hair not just something on lhcf) no detangling comb, and her hair was just damp so the brush looked like it was messing up her hair and ends.

then he cut layers but they were too short and the end result was her looking like a fluffly chopped up poodle with major frizz :nono:

just a mess, I was thinking of going to his salon in nyc for a cut/style one day but you know what i've seen him imo mess up more than one persons head on tv/internet videos to make my decision.

Just had to get this off of my chest.

LMAO!!!

I would NEVER let that guy on "What Not To Wear" get within 20 miles of my head.
He doesn't let anyone keep their length and they end up looking horrible.

Sometimes when I see styists, and majority of the time they are white, deal with "our" hair, I cringe because they have no idea what to do with it.
One time on WNTW, the hair stylist, had a black girl with a weave and instead of giving her a new one, he just tightened the raggedy one she already had

I have decided that I am the only one touching my hair...can't trust nobody.

I saw that one (what not to wear), the hairstyle wasn't, how can i say this, something i would like on me and i wouldn't recommend it. But I saw that the girl that had it liked it. It was different and she liked it.

About the brushing part, I don't know. If it is the same one we are talking about. i hope we are. Even though hair is hair. Would her hair take differently to the treatment.

Also I just have to say I like him because he actually sitdown and talk to the clients before doing anything and he don't push the matter, when the girl said she didn't want it cut and then she compromised.

eta: not the weave one. the dye one

Sometimes these celeb stylist are more groupies than stylist

One time i was watching a show like that, this lady said she was a surfer who was in the sun all the time. She claimed she couldn't get a comb through her hair, every time she touched it her hair would break. Instead of the "celebrity stylist" (as the show called) giving her a treatment, or doing something helpful/gentle... he dyed it. It went from pretty blonde hair to dull dead looking red hair. I doubt her hair survived after a week! It was a shame..

I just saw this...I was hoping he was going to flat iron her hair. I didn't know what to quite make of it that finished product...It was just all over her head.

I did like the way he applied the color..(I am imagining him relaxing my hair)

I have seen his work before and it is not half bad but what he did with curly blond was not it...

I didn't know he did Kate's weave..:nono:

I remember that show! It's on the Style network and it's called, "What I Love About Me," right? Girl, I thought the same thing! :nono:

I don't mind Ted Gibson, but Nick Arojo, the one Ted replaced, couldn't get near my hair with a ten foot pole and 10 million dollars. He'd give me a big chop, claim that my hair was still too long, and shave it all off. :nono:

@ the bold I fel the same way with that episode! Her hair came out horrible, even my husband was like dmn her hair is jacked up, why didn't they just put a new weave! and he knows nothing about hair :lachen::lachen::lachen:

Ted Gibson is AA which is makes things even worse.

I'm really starting to see that you can't trust stylists, even my moms the ex stylist says it, she use to come home so many nights with jacked up haircuts/styles from co-workers!!!! lmao!
One cut was so bad I called her man or machine!

yeah I think all hair from white to ours need our hair to be treated with the same care especially when wet, he was just rough with it and her hair was very curly, and her hair didn't look frizzy until he touched it :lachen:

she did like it even though I think it looked better before he got to it, the color came out nice though.

I just keep seeing his work and before I thought he was the best but nowadays I don't know, kate+8's extension to me are horrid and looked like a mullet for 7grand.

I felt the same way when that salon show was on with Elin Lavar, she's the stylist who does the former editor of Essence magazine Susan Taylor hair. I was thinking I would never go to her for service nor will I use her hair care line.

yeah he did his thing with the color, once I saw him applying the color and his technique I was like oh he's gonna give her a nice sleek bouncy doo, or really accentuate those curls, not a cockadooooo :lachen:

@ the bold yeah that was his "work" :nono: lmao!!!!!!!! and for 7,000. why couldn't he have just given her tracks, he gave her strand by strand extensions that took like 3 days from the article I read and the "best" european hair was used :perplexed

:lachen::lachen:@ bold, I hate when they do that, the persons hair is not that damaged and they give them a sl bob when they did not request that short of a cut why do they have to cut sooooo much hair off? I know they ticking people off.

yeah that other guy was bad too, I never had a beef with Ted G. I admire all the AA celeb stylists out there but his recent work has me confused.

honestly from personal experience she is very nasty. my mom use to work for her, and one time my grandmother made an appointment to get braids done, we show up and she was just NAAAAAASTY!!! so nasty my grandmother (rip) cursed her out and we walked out, I couldn't believe her attitude, and I think she said something to my grandmother to light the crazy flame :lachen:.

she's the type where if your not a celeb you get treated like a dog, but then regular folks want to go to her because of her weaving techniques/skills.

Okay, I wouldn't go to anyone who does Susan Taylor's hair simply because the woman's hairline is galloping towards her nape post haste, and no one seems to give a damn. ST doesn't seem to care because she's smiling and posing for pictures...stylist doesn't seem to care, because she's still doing those braids. If it were my head, I'd be prostrate with grief. Why doesn't anyone care?!

And what kind of stylist lets that happen? At some point, she should have sat Susan Taylor down and said...hey...your hairline is like in the middle of your head...it wasn't like this before, and it's not a good look....I'm going to stop doing this hairstyle on your head until your hairline limps back into its former position.

I want to give this aa stylist praise so badly. But I must be 100% honest and say that what he did to kate's hair made his credibilty as a stylist null and void to me.

I would not even let him cut the tail end of my mini schnauzer.

I like a lot of Ted's hairstyles on the show. Most participants on the show seem to be pleased with his work. I haven't really paid that much attention to his technique. I will have to look out for that. Now Nick, on the other hand, was a complete disaster. That man was horrible. He doesn't believe in long hair for ANYBODY!!! I have seen people cry after letting him do their hair. This older woman from TX was devastated after Nick did her hair. She was miserable for the rest of the show. He chopped her hair off something terrible. My heart was breaking for that poor woman. :ohwell:

I have been to the Ted Gibson before and it was a great experience, and my hair had all type of swang. Ted is a great guy and I won't bash him. He obviously is good at what he does because he is highly requested for fashion shows and magazine covers.
He wasnt the one who actually did my hair, but as a person I like him alot!!

i did not know ted gibson did kate's weave. that ish was horrible! i already peeped him on some other stuff and i was NOT impressed. then he had the nerve to charge $20+ for shampoo in his haircare line.

The only celeb stylist I would probably let touch my hair would be Dickey from hair rules. He did Kelis hair and does Michelle Obama's (I think). I use to watch WNTW just for the hair style portion and more times than not I just don't like the outcome.

eta: I use to watch WNTW when Nick was the stylist so I haven't seen any of Ted's do. Nick is one hair stylist that you can't pay me money to go to.

It use to tide me over since Shear Genius was off the air but now that a new season is coming up I can move on to better things.

What I learned from working at a high end salon and watching Tabitha's Salon Makeover is that a colorist is just that a great COLORIST that does NOT cut hair. Yes, they have the ability to do so, but that's not their specialty.

Ted is probably a great chemical/colorist, but not a hairSTYLIST. Still like him better than Nick.

That man SUCKED big time and I always thought he was an alcoholic. If I saw that man on the street I never, ever would have believed him to be a WOMAN'S hairstylist.

Did Ted REALLY do that ugly *ish???

He should KNOW better. If it's one thing a black hairstylist should know how to put in is a freakin' weave of all things.

Was this the woman who had long curly brownish blond hair? And he cut it a little below shoulder and dyed it a brighter, lighter blond? I hated what he did to her hair. The color looked bad against her skin tone and the curls didn't fall right. I've seen him do better on curly hair before, but not this particular one I'm thinking of. He did the witch's hair well.

I don't mind Ted Gibson, but Nick Arojo, the one Ted replaced, couldn't get near my hair with a ten foot pole and 10 million dollars. He'd give me a big chop, claim that my hair was still too long, and shave it all off. :nono:

Nick Arojo is the worst! He is really biased against long hair. And for him, basically any hair below shoulder length is too long. You're right, at least Ted lets people keep a good amount of their length. Not so for Nick.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I just finished busting out laughing at her hairline being at her nape that don't make no sense and then to have a bad attitude as a stylist. I can't believe she kept getting those braids either, and they use to look so nice, I mean isn't that a no no in hair styling causing your client to go bald? oh wait that's most stylist purpose in life to cause you to be bald lol!!!!

Okay, I wouldn't go to anyone who does Susan Taylor's hair simply because the woman's hairline is galloping towards her nape post haste, and no one seems to give a damn. how was the atmosphere at the salon? was the person who did your hair nice? I ask because sometimes the high end places can be snooty, i'm not really bashing him but I guess i'm just starting to see some questionable work from him lately. I guess his trainees should be really good I guess.

I guess it also goes back to clients speaking up and saying no or ouch! use a detangling comb! or I think I resemble sometimes poodle instead of smiling things off when you know your mad inside.

I have been to the Ted Gibson before and it was a great experience, and my hair had all type of swang. Ted is a great guy and I won't bash him. He obviously is good at what he does because he is highly requested for fashion shows and magazine covers.
He wasnt the one who actually did my hair, but as a person I like him alot!!

yeah I was gonna try some of his hair products after reading his articles on essences site, but once I saw the prices I was like oh no, I wanted to try his conditioning sheets but again the prices oh well.

i did not know ted gibson did kate's weave. that ish was horrible! i already peeped him on some other stuff and i was NOT impressed. then he had the nerve to charge $20+ for shampoo in his haircare line.

your right you have your specialties he really was brushing that curly hair like "whew this is a challenge" lol!

but that color job was fab he did her eyebrows too.

TLC offers a behind-the-scenes look at Kate Gosselin’s new look!
The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star spent hours with celebrity hairstylist, Ted Gibson to get her new hairdo. Gibson spent 20 hours adding hundreds of extensions to Gosselin’s hair and TLC caught some of the makeover on video. The celebrity hair guru has some pretty famous clients including Angelina Jolie and Anne Hathaway. Ted Gibson had nothing but praise for the new single mom:
Bonding extensions to those little hairs really took time. But in all those hours, she didn’t complain once. She was so open to whatever I suggested, and willing to try just about anything.
Kate Gosselin is happy with her new look and told PEOPLE magazine:
It’s good to have hair again. I know this will be more upkeep than my old look, but I’m ready for it. I’m just grateful I don’t have to go through the awkward growing-out process of short hair. I get criticized for everything I do enough as it is!
It’s great to see Kate Gosselin doing so well after her divorce. It seems that things keep getting better for Kate while her ex-hubby Jon Gosselin continues the downhill slide. GLOSS readers like Kate’s new hairdo, in a GLOSS poll, 65% said they liked Kate Gosselin’s new look.
Check out the video about Kate Gosselin’s makeover on the TLC website.

I guess with her hair I just don't think it looks super professional. you can see where her short hair is bad blending.
