Regimen for oil hair??

Okay, I hope I'm not the only one but I have oily hair. I wash on Sunday and by Thursday I start to look like one of those italian gansters in the movies with their hair slicked back...Does anyone else have this problem? I know usually our hair is dry but I have the opposite problem, I don't use any oil, grease...really anything on my hair. I would like to not have to wash so often, any ideas???

I'm sure this thread will be a ghost town.

ETA I just noticed the title "Regimen for oily hair" not "oil hair"

My scalp is the exact same way and honestly I've come to realize over the years and especially joining the online hair care community that its a blessing....we don't really have to moisturize our hair much or at all, we'll age BEAUTIFULLY, and our hair is actually more resilient as a result.....I just rock with it and do my thing

^^^ But what are your tips for rocking with it? I don't have this problem but just trying to help OP. What shampoos do you suggest, etc. How often do you wash? What products do you use to moisturize or do you (as you already have lubricant from oily scalp).

/\ I don't have to moisturize very much....due to my skin type once in a while I'll add a little oil to my ends.

I shampoo with Trader Joe's Nourishspa but i'm sure whatever she's using is good I would tell her to continue to shampoo frequently.

As for how often I wash, I shampoo once a week (once in a while I'll push it to two weeks out of sheer laziness) but once a week is ideal for me....my natural oils coat my strands and will weigh them down a bit by like day 5 but I have so much hair that it doesn't look bad.

I wash twice a week with baking soda/distilled water/honey. I could prob wash once a week, but by week 1.5 I'm feeling greasy.

I've switched to or make products that are water based rather than oil based. I also use a lot of the ayurvedic powders for conditioning/cleaning, which can be drying to some, but I've never had an issue.

I also DC before washing--sounds backwards, but my scalp feels better this way.

Having an oily scalp/skin has worked well for my hair, not so great with my face which can be acne prone :ohwell: HTH

Thanks so much for the tips...I never thought of DC first. Do you wet the hair or apply conditioner to dry hair?? And yes, I have oily skin too...oh, well

When I went to the dominicans, she just stopped conditioning my hair and that helped, she said conditioner coats the hair but now that I do it myself I can't imagine not conditioning.

Thanks, you have good points...It just made me so mad that my friend and I could both go get our hair done and her hair lasts for 3 weeks and mine lasts for 5 days...Who has the money to go every week??

Most times I'll DC on dry hair. I'll soak my hair with water first if I know I'll need extra slip for detangling.
