Good Morning,

I am almost 15 weeks post relaxer. I would love to stretch until December, but not sure if it is wise for my fine hair. Please advise or share your experience.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thats great that you are already 15 weeks girl!!! To answer your question, I have only stretched to 9 weeks, and I am trying to do the Xmas Stretch now. I am currently 4 weeks, and 6 days post. If I start experiencing major breakage I am going to try to stop it with a protien treatment but if it does not help....I am going to relax my hair.

My hair is fine/medium. I can stretch 3 months and thats it. My hair starts breaking if I go any longer. Even though I can mangage my hair just fine at 12 weeks of longer, it starts breaking and its just not worth it!

I have fine hair and I have always stretched for longer than 12 weeks. Anything less has resulted in extreme overprocessing and thinning for me, so I have a 3.5-4 month minimum. The longer I stretch, the more thickness I gain, in addition to relaxing my hair slightly (texturizing). One time I relaxed 2 months post and I'm just getting rid of that overprocessed hair.

Currently, I'm 13 weeks post, doing the Christmas Stretch as well. Last time I did 5 months, and I'm hoping to relax no more than 2x a year.

Thanks Ladies!!!

I guess I need to watch, I'm not sure if I'm experiencing breakage or not. It's hard for me to tell.

However, I love how thick my hair looks when I stretch my relaxer.

What are you all doing to manage your new growth in terms of moisturizers, hair styles, regimens, etc?

I'm a fan of EVOO for my moisturizer--keeps my hair soft and cuts out the shedding and breakage. Although it seems heavy, it doesn't weigh my hair down like most other moisturizers I've tried. For shampoos, CON is great for detangling & moisuturizing. Silicon Mix is also key. Additionally, I try to be consistent with DRC (heavy protein) at least 1x a month. My daily style is bun 3-4 days out of the week, otherwise I rollerset & let the curls hang loose. I do blow out the roots, but that's it. If I want it straight, I can just wrap it.

My hair is extremely fine and the longest I have stretched was 6 months but I did that by getting braids every month. Now I stretch about 11-12 weeks doing protective styles , mainly buns. The breakage does get pretty bad during the detangling phase the longer I stretch though.

I will try the EVOO. I have the Silicon Mix and have been using it for the past 2 1/2 weeks. It definitely helps with the new growth but I've noticed that in a couple of days my new growth feels hard again. I guess that means I'm not moisturizing enough. I think I'm afraid of loosing bounce if I moisturize too much. Although healthy hair is more important than bouncy/swinging hair. :) Is the silicon mix considered heavy protein? I think I have some aphogee at home, I can use that for my heavy protein treatment.

I just started using Elucene shampoo and conditioner (verdict is still out on this one) as oppose to my usual Keracare. Whew, I'm so tired of trying to find the right products for my hair.

When I was relaxed during the first couple years of college I only got touchups when I went home for breaks (winter break, summer break) so I would be going up to 6 months without a touchup. Before then I usually got my relaxer 3-4 times per year.

I washed and blowdried my hair once a week, and wore it in a bun. One of my favorite moisturizers was Frizz Ease Secret Weapon. It's very light so it won't weigh your hair down, but it moisturizes well.

I have stretched for about 30 weeks and plan to go only 3-4 more (I'm pregnant and want to relax before I start my third trimester).

I have about three inches of new growth and my hair seems very strong now. I "almost" hate to relax it - but I can only cope with it because I wet it every day - soon it will be too cold for that, so relax I "must" .

I could only stretch to 12 weeks before using BBD Stretch Creme I can go longer only drawback I will have to blowdry this product into hair I only lose a few hairs in my comb, and my hair is soft and silky especially if you follow up with the BBD Keala oil.

9 months here. I think I have fine hair. I agree with Pat Todd, it's easier to do when I saturate it with leave in condition or wet it a little. Although it may work for the first few cold months after November...I ain't beat I think I will relax. I will be posting pic soon.

This is my first stretch to 16wks, currently at 13wks 1day, the S-curl mixed is my helper when I may have to comb my hair everyday, but at this point the best thing for me is braids (my own hair), I just oil my scalp and braids w/an oil mixture and an oil moisturizer 3x's a day as for my ends I use mango butter mixed w/EVOO 3x's a day. On wash days I use Capilo shampoo's and 10 en 1 or silicone mix for a deep conditioner. HTH:)

Hi ladies. I've always had my relaxers done every 3-4 mths. This is the first time I've done it without using heat, blowdyers and flat irons. :D But I noticed alot of hair has been in my combs. I guess I'm shedding excessivley but why?
