Her stylist Oscar James is putting a relaxer on this chick with three fingers instead of a brush- HE WAS GETTING IT DIRECTLY ON THE SCALP, like just mooshing it onto the hair/scalp. Now, He DID put a base on, but, damn, seriously- who does this???

I use a hair color brush (like a paint brush looking thing) for precision.

How do YOU apply your relaxer- comb, hair color brush or fingers?

I'm watching it too! I cringed when I saw this!
I want to see the "after" before I determine whether his technique works or not

Oh and that lotion that they put on the twist and curl was a Jane Carter product. I was like wow I'm a real product junkie, I recognized the label even though it wasn't shown on TV

When I relaxed, I would use my fingers and the back of a comb. Also, with one brand of relaxer (profectiv) I never based. My hair/scalp never suffered.

I also use a "Sprush" - the gold one in the middle. It works very well for application and smoothing. I have used my fingers in the past as well as the back of a rat tail comb. Whatever gets the job done...

Yea I saw that. And I really hated the part when the audience was "ewwwing" and junk when they showed a before picture of the girl with the twa getting her hair pressed.
I mean geeze

I use the turquoise one to put the relaxer on and the gold one in the middle to smooth.

I thought that was so rude. I felt bad for those girls.

Does anyone know if the sprush would work for henna? And if so which one do you think would be best? I'm thinking I might try the aqua one.

Transition Over
I don't relax my own hair, but when my mom was doing it, she used her fingers and the back of a rattail to comb to smooth. My current stylist does it the exact same way, and none of them ever hurt me. But then, I've had other stylist who use their hands or brushes and they've burned my scalp to death. Imo, that just goes to show that it's not so much the tool that is used, but rather it's the skill and care of the person applying the relaxer that says whether or not your scalp or hair will end up jacked.

And I actually think the fingers have a slight advantage over a brush or comb, because with your fingers, you can feel exactly where your new growth is. I feel like with the sprush, if you don't know your head exceptionally well, you have to like...cordon off the area with clips or something.

i thought relaxer shouldn't touch the skin. considering what it does to protein, it doesn't seem like a good idea to let it touch your flesh.

Idk what it is but every time a stylist uses a brush my scalp can't take it....it's like the relaxer burns quicker or something. I much prefer fingers.

I love the pink Sprush ( I cut it in half because the very tip is a little flimsy).
I can apply and smooth at the same time.
My application time is quicker too.
NO Burning or irritation on the scalp no matter how how hard I press which is MUY IMPORTANTE, especially when using a lye relaxer.
I noticed I dont waste as much relaxer as well. This is important for me because I purchase the large Mizani BB and it can get pricey.
Over-lap is minimal to none

When I was using a comb I always got relaxer on my previously relaxed strands, Even though I protected those strands it still was frustraiting. When I was using a color brush it irritated my scalp too much.

Gosh, I could go on and on about The SPRUSH. Everyone who relaxes should use this thing.

I called the company once to see if they carried it in stores. The man was VERY nice and answered all my questions. It was so refreshing

My stylist uses her fingers and I never burn when she does it that way. Because I stretch, she prefers to use her fingers to prevent any ripping of my hair or irritation of my scalp due to using a comb or brush for parting. When she uses a brush or comb my head is usually :burning:. I have started to request the fingers, lol.
