Want to relax. . .sorta

I'm thinking about relaxing (or texturizing) a small part of my hair because I've been wanting to wear straight/curly styles. I want to get a fall or a weave, so it would look more natural if my hair blended in. Since I'm natural, that would require relaxing the part that's out.

I could still grow my own hair out under the fall/weave, and when I achieve the length I want, I can gradually trim the relaxed hair as the natural new growth comes in.

Any opinions?

I'm confused, are you saying you want to relax w/ plans of purposely growing it out to become natural again?

You want to have natural hair and yet you're going to relax your already natural hair to blend it in better with a fall/weave? Why not just wear a wig and keep it natural until it's the length that you want? :look:

Basically, I want to wear a straight look, and it won't look natural (no pun intended) in the front unless I straighten the part that's left out. I just want a new style option. Braids do too much damage. I don't think pressing/flat-ironing everyday would be good either. There was a girl on another hair site that was relaxed in one part of her hair for track coverage.

Couldn't you just press or flat iron the portion that is out (Reneice has pictures on her site)

or

You could wear a full weave with no hair out.

DON'T DO IT!! We're losing too many naturals already! J/K, it's your hair girl do what you want  Are you interested in wigging it? I'm officially addicted, and all of mine are so light I've worn them in 90degree weather w/ no problem. That's seem extra though, relaxing just the front for 1 style you want to try

Why not get a weave? It seems like a whole lot of work for just one part of your hair. No matter what u choose, we got your back. ;)

What will you do when you stop wearing the weave? How will you wear your natural hair with one section that's relaxed? Forgive me, but I don't understand.

I probably wouldn't relax it. Two extremely different hair textures don't seem like a good idea. My hair dresser wears a weave and she presses the top portion of her natural hair thats exposed about once a week and she doesn't seem to have a problem.

yeah, i wouldn't relax it either. Just do a good press and make sure you get some type of heat protectant for your hair.

I don't see why you won't just press the front section, it doesn't seem like a good idea to relax something for one hairstyle only to cut it out.

Chemicals can do a lot of damage too. You could always just get the front braided, or flat twisted, and wear a straight style in the back. Or like others said, you could get sewn in hair, or you could try a wig. Instead of straightening your hair often, you could also roller set. To change things up, you could also try braid outs or rod sets, or you could get a puff to wear on the back and do braids or flat twists on the top. Needless to say, the options are endless without changing your texture. If you end up with 2 different textures---straight and curly---you would probably have to cut your hair eventually. I say work with what you have, unless you want to be all relaxed; if so, go for that, or if you want to texturize. Just be sure before you do anything you can't instantly reverse.

I was worried about heat damage, so I didn't want to press or flat iron. So I think the best non-permanent option is to get a lace front (which would have my hair completely covered) and would look natural at the same time. One thing I would hate is to have bone straight weave/fall and have my real hair not blending in. Once again, I appreciate the feedback. I can see that it doesn't make sense to relax just one section.
