Silk Elements lye relaxer

I was just wondering if anyone has used this relaxer and how you like it? Silk Elements is a Sally Beauty Supply brand and they've been selling the no-lye version for a couple of years. The no base/sodium hydroxide relaxer is new and I just saw the smaller containers of it in the store the other day. If I wasn't natural I would definitely want to try this! So...anyone try it?

I just gave myself a touchup with this on friday. I used the mild version, I like it. I usually texturize with pcj delicate hair lye formula, but this is stronger and processes quicker. It makes the hair smooth, soft, and strong. I used a packet of the moisturizing detangling conditioner after rinsing the relaxer out
then the moisturizing shampoo and a ACV rinse instead of their neutralizing conditioner.

I intended to reply to this last night b/c a church member used it and she is saying that it is now her new favorite. She has very thick, coarse hair and she said that it did the job quickly and effeciently with no burning. She gave it two thumbs up.

I was considering stretching until June or possibly transitioning. However, at a few days short of 16 weeks I relaxed. I used to use Vitale which was fine but I kept feeling like my hair needed more. I went to the BSS store last week and the attendant suggested Silk Elements Lye Relaxer for Coarse Hair. I told her that I was looking for something along the lines of Affirm but more easily accessible and economical. She said that they didn't sell Silk Elements but Sally's did. (My thoughts were ok I am tired, it is the end of the day, I have a 2 inch twa under my previously relaxed hair and two children (not mine) ages 1 and 2 in tow, this must be really good if she is sending me to another store! ).

I bought the big tub for coarse hair from Sally's for like fourteen something. I have to say hands down that was the best relaxer I ever had. It was worth every penny I spent and more! I actually was able to air dry and my hair was straight afterwards without the use of a hair dryer. Usually when I do this my hair is a bush and I have to blow dry and or flat iron straight. My hair is extremely silky. I did not blow dry and I did not use my flat iron. I did use my Denman brush. Oh and I did not experience any burning sensations. My hair was relaxed the same all the way through. Sometimes, I have areas that do not relax as good as others though they had the same amount of time.

I am truly amazed. I will definitely, definitely stay with this one. Never have I seen results like this on my hair. I have also decided just to relax every 16 weeks-a schedule like JenniferMD's. It works for me also. I guess you just have to play around with the numbers that work best for you.

BTW after my relaxer, I shampooed with a neutralizer shampoo of course and I also used Aphogee Intensive Keratin Reconstructor to rebuild the protein on my strands. I had no breakage or anything just a wonderful experience. Also, I like the fact the relaxer has shea butter in it.

Can anyone compare this to optimum multimineral low ph?

That was my last relaxer. Not a bad relaxer, but my hair didn't really feel silky like Mizani left it. I think I'm switching to Silk Elements for my next touchup.

I loved the optimum, but it did not get my hair str8 enough.
I think I will use this silk elements next if I cant find cantu relaxer.

I also used Vitale and then Motions Herbal before using Silk Elements and Silk is the only one that has given me the results that I want. Silky hair that last long too. It last long to. I was finally able to stretch again like I use to when I got my hair done professionally. I got to 10 weeks with no problem.

I use Silk Elements Regular.

I've used the mild lye versio for my last 3 relaxers. It does leave my hair very soft, but the last time I either underprocessed, or my hair grew REALLY quickly. I tend to think it's that my hair grew very fast, b/c I had just upped my MSM and Biotin intake, and started oon my protein shakes.

At any rate, I did a "corrective" (maybe) and my hair came out great. I prefer it over Motions Mild Oil Relaxer. It does have shea butter in it. I will continue to use it.

Most afro-americans use regular...so mild was strong enuff to get your hair str8?

I'm a 3C and I don't relax to get bone straight, so it worked just fine. I would rather use a mild and be a bit underprocessed that over processed. Also, as I have aged, my hair has thinned a bit, so I won't take a chance on balding myself....

Oh this is great!! I have been researching the reviews on this relaxer (esp. from Jasmin) and I was seriously contemplating getting this, but there weren't much more reviews. Now I know for sure I will get this! :yep: Thanks for the reviews!

I used it for my last relaxer and it does work fast with great results. I'm thinking about trying a Mizani relaxer next time and if I don't like the results it's back to Silk Elements for good.

I change my mind. I think I'm through with lye relaxers. I just realized that they have disappointed me from day one with affirm. I used no-lye my whole relaxed life and I never had the problems I have had for the past 2 years (i.e burns, underprocessed hair, hair loss, tangles, knots, etc). I guess I stuck with it b/c it's considered better and I was trying to avoid dryness like the plague. But now that I've found products that will keep my hair moisturized, I'm leaving lye behind for now. I grew my hair to APL effortlessly with no-lye. So it's gonna be phyto for me next time I relax. :)

I am new to the board. I am tired of spending $80 to get my hair relaxed and I am not very happy with my current hairdresser. My friends suggested I relax my own hair. Can anyone share their experiences, is it easy. I am concerning with damaging my hair, I am trying to grow out my short hair I miss my long hair. :) . Also would you recommend silk elements as my first self relaxer.

Thanks,

Lisa

I know lady that works here that has great hair. She also got fed up with beauticians and I think she liked the no lye Silk Elements.

Bumping again. Can anyone compare this to Affirm lye? I thought I had my pick with Designer Touch, but I don't think this is lasting either. Would anyone say the regular is less harsh than Affirm regular?
