Suggestions on the best ceramic flat iron

I'm in the market for an EXCELLENT flat iron and wanted some suggestions. Over at folica.com, there are major reviews for the Sedu... anyone have this one?

I was going to buy a cheap one from wal-mart, but because I'm not sure if I'm going to just stretch my relaxer or if I'm actually going to eventually transition, I need to be sure I don't just get something short term. Right now I'm 16 weeks post relaxer and not planning on getting a relaxer until I've figured out if I'd like to go natural.

Any consumer advice would be appreciated.

I bought a Sedu. It burned the heck out of my hair. I never used it again. I thought this happened because my hair was too porous. Then my friend came over who has type 3a hair and I tried to use it on him. It burned his hair too. I think the one I got is defective. This happened on the lowest temperature. I think I am going to try a Chi next.

hmmm i just got my chi..i was such a big advocate for it and then it singed my hair..i had used one before..it was my ex roomates and it was the same exact one and never burnt or scalded my hair..i got it at overstock.com so maybe i got a defective one..

they usually are very good.... :mad:

I have the Sedu one which i am very happy with. It does have a defect but i've learned to use it. The 2 plates don't close evenly...so i have to squeeze to get the plates flat when i am doing my hair..... that sucks, i should have returned it and got a new one but i guess i was too lazy....

I agree my hair looks very shinny. Everyother flat iron I have used makes my hair look dry even with serum.

Another proud owner of a FHI iron!! (1")

I got if off ebay. It was more costly than most the BSS/Walmart brands ($80+S & H), but I love it because you can set the tempurture yourself, so less risk of burning your hair. You can do straight or curly styles because of the smaller size.

I've had my mine for almost two years now and I've had no cracking whatsoever. The more expensive are more durable because they are actually made of fused ceramic plates vs. covering other materials with a ceramic coating (which is how less expensive models are made). They still work well, but you just have to treat them more gently (and I tend to bang things up easiliy - so I knew I had to get something more durable). The only thing I regret is allowing product to build up on the plates, by not wiping them off during and after each use. But other, than that, it's great!

Im going to say my GHD ones they are amazing and though i dont use them often myself when i do my nieces hair (see album) it works easily smoothly and never dries or damages her hair.

Hi Chocokitty, how often do you use it. My daughter and I are going to purchase one this week or maybe next week. I don't have enough hair to use it but I am hearing a lot of good about it.

I love the Solia too. I used it on my daughter's hair. Straigtend it beautifully and her hair reverted back perfectly into her afro. No burns and you can set the temperature. I don't recommend using on damp hair which you can but not if you want to get to the roots. The steam burns! OUCH!

It also came very fast in the mail.

Anyway, the Solia has 5 stars. They even have before and after pics of a nappy head before and after.

I love the Sedu!!! I bought mine from folicia.com and let me tell you that all the reviews are true!! Just make sure that you always, always, always use a heat protectant on your hair. I use olive oil mositurizing oil and oil sheen and my hair goes from afro mess to sleek and straight.
