Wash/condition with cold water or hot?

I was reading somewhere (I forget now) that it's much better to wash your hair in cold water because it seals the cuticle... or something along those lines. I'm going to wash my hair after I exercise tonight and I just wanted to get some input on this first. Opinions? :)

I rinse in cool water(not cold) really for no particular reason other than the 'coolness' that it has on my scalp. IIRC I read somewhere, SBH mag I believe, that it seals the cuticle or something like that.

The only way I would do it is if I had a shampoo bowel in my house  I can't take cold water on my body.

Alternatives: cellophanes and serums- they all seal the cuticles

I tried to do that once while I was in the shower and I couldn't take it. I don't know if or when I'll try it again.

you can actually wash in what ever temperature water you want.
You just make sure your final rinse before you get out of your shower, or your final rinse washing is with cold water.
Cold water does indeed seal the cuticle, locking in the good things you've moisturized your hair with, Cold water gives more bounce to your curls, if you're a curly head, and cold water gives more shine to your hair, if you're straight haired.

Oh yea. washing your hair in hot or warm water is good, just because the hot water opens up the cuticle first, to let the good stuff in, if you're conditioning your hair with good stuff, and it also makes it easier to wash the dirt and build up out.
Just make sure the final rinse is in cool or cold.

Oooohhh... polly don't like that cracker. :ohwell: Good to know. The last thing i need is MORE tangles.

LOL.....Mama, you are too funny!

It may not happen for everyone. I just know it doesn't agree w/ my hair.

THIS IS GOOD INFO. I GUESS THE SAME GOES FOR THE FACE. HOT TO OPEN PORES, COLD TO CLOSE PORES. I'LL DO THIS IN THE SUMMER, IT IS TOO COLD FOR ME TO EVEN THINK ABOUT WASHING MY HAIR WITH COLD WATER.

Wash with warm
Rinse with tepid
Final rinse with ice cold

The first couple of times I did a cold water rinse, I had tangle issues too. The key for me is not towel drying after the rinse. I used to towel dry, but I stopped. Now I simply squeeze the water out, and immediately apply leave-in. My hair is WAY shinier, and it appears to hold my leave-in better...I've noticed fewer split ends too.

I'll remember your advice. Much thanks. :)

I wash in hot (well..warm) water and rinse with the same. I did the cold water rinse thing in the past and it did nothing for my hair. It just made me cold.

Ditto to all of this. I always rinse with cool water after washing. It does make my hair shinier.
It doesn't work so well if I miss a spot rinsing out conditioner. Then I get tangles. If I rinse completely with warm water, then follow with the cool rinse, then no problems.

I shampoo/condition using warm water but I have done the cool water rinse (final rinse) for 2 years now. I definitely think there are benefits.
