Why are cheap conditioners so good? (Suave Tender Apple: I changed conditioners!)

If I had a choice between Redken's $15 Butter Treat & And Suave's $0.79 Tender Apple..............I would choose the Suave.

I don't know why but cheapies always condition and detangle better.
Is there something in the more expensive conditioners that I can't see?
Why don't they make my hair feel like Suave?

Oh yeah, I switched conditioners.
Suave Tender Apple is the bomb.
I'm going home to wash my hair this evening.

I hear ya Catsuga! :) Cheap conditioners are everywhere in my hair product shelve. I literally buy nothing over $3.00 for my hair and I can't even begin to tell you how fast it is growing, how easy it is to detangle, and the smoothness that my hair has gotten from using, Suave, V05, etc.

From what I have seen comparing labels in the past is the only difference from one expensive product versus the cheap one's is the "Name" ie. Paul Mitchell. I go to Sally's and buy their generic Paul Mitchell conditioners all the time and on the back of there product they compare it to the original Paul Mitchell products and the ingredient listing are exactly the same.

I envy all of you who can use cheap conditioners. I tried to use suave and my hair comes out feeling like straw. It gets real expesive having to use Keracare Humecto for my conditioner washes but, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

I agree with ya. I bought the Kera Care Humecto which did nothing for my hair. Give me my Suave Awapuhi, Humectant or Milk and Honey any day.

Redken butter treat has way too many cones and it eventually coated my hair after prolonged use :(
All I have been using in my hair for the past three months is Suave or V05 to co wash and leave in...at night I'll moisturize with hair lotion...thats it :)

I think it may have something to do with being relaxed verses natural. Not sure but it seems like more naturals can use inexpensive products verses relaxed head, how about doing a poll to see how many naturals verses relaxed heads uses cheapie conditioners/poo's or expensive cond./poo's to see the results.

That's brilliant! I'm relaxed and cheap stuff tears my hair up! It doesn't give it a natural sheen at all.........

i really like the suave biobasics conditoner generic version of biolage conditioning balm for my edges i use it like a gel, and the suave generic nexxus humectress it works great when i conditioner wash. i also add evoo to both for extra softness. it makes both conditioner work even better without breaking the bank.;)

BWE has a great idea! I'd like to see the results of that b/c I *wish* I could use the drugstore brands other than DDTA. My cheapie product experiments have taught me that my hair does NOT like them...unfortuante situation.

im natural and i cant use suave products. they suck!! my hair loves kenra, humectress, paul mitchell the detangler and expensive products. im a college student and im definitely not happy that my hair wont thrive on V05, suave or any other cheapie products

This was definitely true for me. I'm relaxed now, but when I was natural I could use any old cheap whatever and my hair was fine. Cheapie stuff just doesn't work on my relaxed hair.

I don't like cheap conditioners very much, they don't do much for me. When I tried suave (because others raved about it), I had to mix it with other things before I even like it. I found a recipe and turned it into a suitable leave-in. Conditioners that work for me are redken, elucence, pantene hydrating curls (the old formula), nexxus hummectress, and a few others. I love conditioner.

I don't use cheapie brands on my natural hair. I did use them on my relaxed hair sometimes when I was low on cash, and they were just ok. But I preferred other brands like Pantene, Frizz Ease and Aussie.

I've tried a couple suave conditioners for con washes on my natural hair--ICK! My hair just felt so...coated or something. Like it didn't soak in and accomplish anything. And it made my hair look dull.

My natural hair seems to prefer stuff with more natural ingredients. Even my old drugstore faves from my relaxed days aren't so great on my natural hair (I tried some pantene conditioner for a con wash once--not a success). Jason, Giovanni,...that's where it's at for me now :yep:

I think most people find DDTA at dollar stores but it was discontinued earlier this year so supplies are probably starting to wear thin :(

I'm still on the prowl for another cheapie con that works well for me BUT I do know that my beloved Elucence doesn't work the same for me now as it did earlier in my transition.

drug store cheapies work great on my natural hair. I use Trader Joe's conditoner for $2.99 and it was great on my hair. When relaxed I had success with more expensive brands.

I wanna know this too!

I currently use Suave Tender Apple and I LOVE DDTA. I think the Tender Apple is good, but it doesn't detangle my hair as well as DDTA.
