Okie dokie. Here's my starting pic:

Tomorrow I'll be heading to some bss's in the area to get the jbco. So far I'm going to use it two ways. I'm going to continue using the cold pressed in my mix for the length of my hair and I'll use the jbco for my scalp. I wanted to buy the lavender scented one but for all that I can just add a scent to it. My boss sells this really yummy cherry mango oil that I add to my shea butter so I'll just roll with that.

Count me in. I picked up a bottle of Home Health from the Vitamin Shoppe this weekend.
I'll be sure to post a pic before Oct. 4th.

Best I can do being that my hair is in a bun and I'm on a 40 day challenge that doesn't end until 10-10-10. Taken 9-6-10

I've learned from here that a little goes a long way... I just apply a little to my scalp (dry hair) and message it in... for me it just melts into my scalp.. I use it 2x a week, Mondays and Wednesdays since my wash days are on Thursdays.

I add it to my mix of oils for my scalp and use an applicator bottle to apply and massage into the scalp. However, I also add to the length of my hair before bed esp on the days I know I will be exercising since I either rinse or co-wash my hair. While it tends to start sticky/tacky, I let it "absorb" before I cover with a scarf for a bit. Next morning the sticky/tacky feeling is gone and I am left with nice soft manageable hair.

Using Cold Pressed CO for now but my JBCO is on its way and here are my starting pics:

I plan to use my CPCO mixed with WGO as an overnight pre-poo on the scalp, then the length of the hair on wash day with heat. My hair seems to love it.
Will update when I get the JBCO and determine how I'll use it in my regi.

I will be using Heritage Cold Pressed Castor Oil. I will not be mixing it with anything and I will be using it at least 4 times a week. I will use it for a scalp massage and to seal my hair.

Summer where are you?
Can I join?? I will post my starting pics later on tmrw evening..

This will be my first challenge & my first time using castor oil. I have a question when I go to CVS(any pharmacy) for my castor oil what EXACTLY should it look like?? The product itself and/or the bottle. Thanks

Hey Kitty,
I don't know about the CVS Castor oil but the one at Walgreens is a small bottle, looks brown in color with a red and white label. It can be found in the laxative section.
Or you can buy it from The Vitamin Shoppe or HEB Central Market (Home Health Castor Oil). I am using this one.
Most ladies on the board prefer the JBCO (Jamaican Black Castor Oil) which can be ordered online.
HTH.
And:.......
My starting pics attached :yep:

BlackGeisha, thank you for adding me to the new list!!!

btw, what are the numbers after our names for?

i'm applying the jbco especially to my hairline, but when less fatigued, also like to apply it all over my scalp.

I bought some from CVS back in 2007. I believe the Castor Oil there is in a dark brown bottle with a white label. The castor oil itself is thick and clear.

Grow, to answer your question (Sorry, though not directed to me), the numbers are for the the "raffle" to see who wins the bottles of JBCO at the end of the challenge.

It may be an allergic reaction. Are you breaking out on your face or shedding hair more than normal?

Add me please... yay my first challenge.... Two questions: Is it thick? Is it okay to use on relaxed hair?
Thick but absorbs well and yes can be used on relaxed hair. Works wonderfully for air drying.

Hey BG! I'm in again. My new siggy is my length check after my last relaxer. I'm still using JBCO in my conditioners and gaining thickness, but I'm not having any luck growing my edges..any suggestions??? :spinning:
It's helping my edges. I massage it into my edges a few times per week.

Like BlackGeisha said, you can mix with other oils. I once had a sore scalp and mine came from scalp massaging. I was agitating the scalp a little too much. I use a fine tip (small tip) applicator bottle to apply the JBCO to ensure my hair isn't overly saturated with oil. I massage it in really good to allow the scalp to absorb it and end result, soft hair. Hope this works for you.

I'm increasing the frequency of usage for cycle 3. JBCO has become my daily oil of choice for sealing and scalp massaging. Lovely, soft hair is the end result. It absorbs so nicely. ETA: For those new to using JBCO, a little goes a long way. I use about a pea size for my entire head when sealing.

Does cold press castor absorb and work equally as good. I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere but just throwing the question out there at you all.

I've started using cold pressed with a tablespoon of WGO mixed in until my JBCO comes in and i've used it consistently the last few nights...my scalp is tender in some spots but I can see new growth and its super soft tho... I'm new to this and am liking how my hair is responding so far!
So it seems like I will be using it nightly on my scalp but find I am going to need to co-wash 4-5x/week while using the cold pressed which is fine because I can air dry for the time being.

hi ladies!

BlackGeisha and my fellow jbco lovers: what's this i'm reading about jbco not being good in the winter because of its humectant like qualities? (see thread)

http://www.longhaircareforum.com/forum6/thread495927-3.html

i just started this year with the jbco, so i don't have that much experience with the winter seasons yet, so how many of you use this during the winter and most importantly HOW do you use it to avoid the humectant like drying out of the hair they say humectants do when there is no moisture in the air?

thanks ladies!
