lead hairs challenge?

I know that shedding must be scary, but I think you are correct about those hairs reaching the end of their lifespan, D.Lisha. Pregnancy can cause hair to remain in a growing phase until after delivery/breastfeeding - which is why so many women report thicker hair during pregnancy.

Many people shed quite a bit in the autumn, too. Over at LHC there are quite a few threads talking about this issue. Unless the shedding is severe and prolonged, it won't have any effect on your hair growth goals.

uh-oh, something I am definitely NOT looking forward to :nono:
Hey @sipp100, do you think the amount of shed hairs varies according to how the hair is worn? For example, do you think the amount of shed hairs for women that wear their REAL hair out is more than the woman that keep their hair hidden under sew-ins, wigs etc..?(i hope my question was clear lol)

^^^Well, it's going to shed, regardless. In a weave, the hair is just trapped in the braids until the install is removed - which is why people report softball-size balls of hair upon takedown. I don't think it matters how you wear your hair as long as there is no breakage going on.

The supplement MSM supposedly prolongs the growing phase of each hair, but I don't know if it's true or not. I think there's a thread floating around about using garlic to combat shedding, too.

I wanna join! my nape shoots down way faster than the rest of my hair sometimes looking like a track to me.... I want to see what would happen if I stop cutting it to see if my hair will even up.My nape creates a deep V and I always make a U shape out of it to see thickness.

I will hack away any split ends but I want to give my longer hairs a chance to thrive since I ps 95% of the time anyway.

...it's hard to tell for sure because my hair is rarely dry, but coming out of the shower, i saw what i think is some bulk hair strands catching up with the lead hairs!

yah! let's hope it's for real and that it continues!

thank you so much for this thread, your hair is your glory!

it's teaching me patience!

please count me in, i have heard of this theory, and am already a year into it. no major trims for me. my left grows faster than my right, and my bottom layers grow the fastest. it looks weird - out of a bun. :ohwell:

This is very interesting. I definitely have some issues with parts of my hair shooting ahead. The centre of my nape really needs some work to catch up with the left and right sides.

I should join this challenge as well I've trimmed my hair twice this year due to lead hairs. :-( Now I feel like I should have waited and my hair would have caught up. I suspect I would have been about full MBL by now with some strands nearing WL. Oh Vey but oh well.

I hid my scissors from myself. Continue to wash, condition, moisturize and seal then just PS until December. Need to take some picture though.

What a great thread and I wish I had known about "lead hairs" when I chopped my hair out of frustration (and damage from Bigen).

This is me :yep: I'm just curious, how does the rest of the hair catch up if the leads hairs are continually growing as well?

To my understanding... the hair grows in a cyclical pattern and the lead hairs eventually rest and thats when the other hairs will catch up.

don't look at it as an issue think of it as things to come. the little rocket hairs let's us know we can get to the next length

hey orange moon come on in. it's nice to be full whatever but it will require trimming because hair just doesn't grow like that, and if you don't retain every little piece you are not going to get that straight line. one member was on here suggesting trimming up after you reach your goal. good luck

I would like to join, I have lead hairs that I refuse to cut, my hair is not all one length. The back is longer than the front. Giving my hair time to see what happens. :yep:

so, good morning ladies. what will you do to keep a hold of them over achievers?
i will go back to bunning, right now i have been wearing 2 french braids pinned up into 2 circles.

I am planning to braid my hair up until the end of the year. I have fitness goals that require low mani- hairstyles.

Subscribing. Great thread OP. I have always wondered about those ends. They're not split so I refuse to chop off all my ends (instead I trimmed off about 1/2 an inch this past weekend-- more like an obligatory trim since I hadn't trimmed all year). Earlier in my HHJ the right side was longer, then left side was longer, a few months later the right side caught up and overtook lol! 3 months ago I had a weird 'W' going, when I relaxed about 3 weeks ago the W was beginning to fill up in the middle. I think a member here (prospurr?) talked about waiting on her slower hairs to catch up. Her fotki pictures were a testament to this interesting phenomenon, and I decided there and then that it wasn't a must to trim hair that wasn't split. So far so good!

I am braided up under weaves/ wigs till thanksgiving. I am wondering what kind of growth pattern I will get. I usually cut my V into a U shape so this will be interesting to see how my hair grows on its own for a while.

I am really glad to see this thread. I have been thinking about this a lot lately, now that I am actively growing my hair. I have been wearing flips, pony tails, buns and braid outs, so my ends don't look "raggedy".

Years ago a stylist got upset with me for patronizing her colleauge - when she was not in the shop - and cut a chunk from the center of my hair. Yes, you read correct, a chunk. I didn't cut my hair into a pixie. I let it grow out and it caught up with rest of my hair, overtime. I do think we should even our hair out from time to time, but not as often as I had been told - every 2, 4 or 6 weeks (in some cases weekly). I have had stylists who believed every time I sat their chair they should trim (code word for cut) my hair. Others would do a BC instead of a small trim or dusting.

^^^ Wow gorgeous shine gadgetdiva

Thank you! I'm not sure if its the JBCO, avocado oil, EVOO & EVCO mix with baggy and heat for my pre-poo , the ApHogee ProVitamin Leave-In after I dry OR the CHI Silk Infusion silk wrap to finish... wait I forgot I used John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze but either way I still get the shine with out it.
