Can you relax over semi permanent color?

Ok, so I applied a semi permanent color this week because I was thinking that it would be a few more weeks before I relax and the color should wash out by then. But now I'm thinking maybe I would like to go ahead and relax next week. I'm seven weeks post now. I'm just wondering what would happen if I relax with this color in. I'm not concerned about stripping away the color cause I can just put it in again. What I'm concerned about is whether or not this will cause any permanent changes to my real color or will it make the relaxer more difficult to take because of the extra coating thereby leaving me with underprocessed hair? The bottle says it will last 10-12 washes and I've only washed once so far. Maybe I should wash every night for the next 12 days, then relax, but that would be a major pain for me. TIA

I would wait at least two weeks. My stylist put a semi-permanent color on with a developer, and I waited about 4 weeks before relaxing, but I don't think that much time was necessary. Hopefully, you'll get more responses. Good Luck. I'd definitely wait a little bit longer to be safe.

I need to know what kind of semi permanent to answer your question effectively. Some are peroxide and ammonia free, some are not. I've been to the BSS b4 where I picked up 2 brands that both said "semi-permanent" and one bottle had ammonia, the other brand did not. The kind I have used is Jazzing's, which is really a rinse, but if used with heat lasts several washes and does not stain the pillow. Jazzing is peroxide and ammonia free. One time I relaxed my hair several years back on top of the semi-permanent. The only thing that happened was that the relaxer took the color out and I had this redish black foam all over the sink and my fingers. My hair was perfectly fine......... BUT, my product had no ammonia or peroxide in it.

Yes you can relax. You can apply a relaxer and a semi permanent the same day without any problems. A semi permanent color takes better on relaxer day. I do it all the time.

Thank you ladies for all the responses. The color is both ammonia and peroxide free. I already applied the color. I would be applying the relaxer on top of the color. Thanks Fine 4s

It depends if it has alcohol, peroxide or any ingredient that lightens your hair.. If it just coats your hair then yes you can..... I use semi-permanent in black and relax my hair and I'm fine. As long as it is a rinse and you don't have to mix it with anything you should be ok..
