I WILL STAND UP FOR MY HAIR!!!!

Ladies,

I have heard enough stories about us just sitting and letting those sizzor happy ghetto stylist/ heat happy heffas mess up our hard long work on this hair journey! For the 2006, lets just stand up and say we're not going to let anyone stop what we know we've work so hard to have! We will stand up for our hair and we will say NOOOOOOO, YOU ARE NOT! I was inspired by the many stories of horror visits to the salon, and I have had one myself a time or two. A friend of mine convinced me that my hair was to (even) and that I should cut some layers in my hair. O.K., her hair was short as hell, and I knew better than to let her bald headed tail give me advice. However, I sat my self in that chair and got layers cut in my hair and I've been struggling for four years to grow them back to an even length! It will probably take me four or five years to have all even hair, because I'm more focused on length now, (My hair is very healthy)! I want everyone with a similar experience to tell it! Lets exploit those (bad advise) friends, sizzor/heat happy stylist, and join together to be a support for each other! (JUST SAY NO)!

I've been saying no to trims and I feel good about it afterwards.

An incident with a scissor happy stylist last year prompted me to come on the Internet for hair care tips. Then I found this place. I'm happy all of that happened, but no more stylists will be hacking in my hair!

I try to avoid stylists whose own heads of hair look a mess. These are typically the ones that go crazy on a beautiful head of hair. Envy perhaps? Nonetheless, I'm with you ladies!

Let the ladies of LHCF say Amen to:

1) Saying no to scissor-happy stylists
2) Declaring to stylists what (put name here) wants and that only
3) I, (put name here), will give my own hair plenty of TLC

I do my own trims and dustings.

I'm glad you ladies are feeling empowered to stand up for getting what you want and accepting nothing less than the best. I have and will continue to walk out of salons with my money in my pocket before I let someone throw all my hard work (and hair) down the drain.

Amen to that!! I'm taking my weave out in 2 weeks and going to my stylist to have my hair blown out. I know she's going to say I need a trim, but I'm going to day "NO". I'm sick of the cuts she calls trims. I'm not taking it anymore--I'll do it myself.

i agree usually i say nothing and cringe inside each time they do the braids or cornrows and then grab the scissors to cut everything that s out of the braids MY OWN DAMN HAIR!!!! to make it look neat. each time i m about to speak they always grab that scissors so fast i dont have the time to speak. this time in january when i get my cornrows done i m be so vocal. and i wont let them braid too tight and when i come for 10 cornrows and they want to give me 30 for the same price i m stick to the easy style that i do and not let them influence me , keep the style that yields the most results. i wont let them comb my dry hair with a ratty litle comb and even bring my own brush .i m tired of being nice and polite. i need to be heard and respected for the money i pay. and i refuse to settle for what i did not asked for. Time to learn to say NO TO POOR SERVICE, BAD SERVICE, and scissor happy stylists that think they know it all.

Every once in a blue moon I get a really good stylist who will listen to my concerns and do what I want. It hurts me to my heart that I had to relocate and leave my last stylist. She was GOOD TO ME!!! Everytime I went to her... Every Single Time, she would sit me in her chair and spend at least 5-10 mins consulting, checking my hair health, listening to what I expected out of my hair, and giving me feedback. She absolutely would not cut without asking me first. She would put my hair in a style that I asked for and if she thought a trim would make it look better, she would ask me first. And when she did cut, she never cut more than necessary.

I know what it's like to go to bad stylists... those young girls that don't know or care anything about hair health. All they know is hair styling. I am not going back to that!!

You should always feel good about your hair when you leave a salon. You should not have to feel angry about the service or the results of your hair. You should not have to feel upset about the money you paid. Those stylist need to understand that YOU are the customer. YOU are the one with the money and the power. It is YOUR hair that they are working on. Give them a "you break it, you buy it" policy!! You are asking for a service and they need to provide that service in the best way possible.

Draw the line ladies!! Don't be a victim. I will definitely do the same.

This thread came right on time. I got my hair touched-up yesterday, and I am proud to say I did stand up and tell her that "it has been 3 months since my last touch-up and I need you to be gentle" She took her time needless to say (but at least I can say I found a stylist that works with me). And even though my ends were a smidge uneven, she did not banter me whatsoever.

So yes I will definitely stand up for my hair when in the chair...

when i first read this thread- i began to think about all the hair i lost with my stylist of 10 years. she is so scissor happy!! I used to act like i didn't care or i completely trusted her when she said i needed a trim. I felt so guilty for caring about the length of my hair that i acted like i didn't care about my length. Now , since i've been natural I only use her for some good ol fashioned presses and she STILL "trims" my hair everytime i go to her. So i try not to go to her anymore...

YES EKOMBA!!!
For the braiders that don't feel like braiding their own hair everytime. I will say NO to tight braiding. Please don't snatch ALL of my baby hair into that braid pulling my brains from my skull. I will get my a$$ up and WALK OUT if you don't braid it looser!!!

NO!!

Hey Ladies,

You know what I find strange? That we would actually sit there and let them do it for so long and we knew better! But for some reason we were convinced we didn't want to hurt their feelings or that maby they knew more than we did. I remember last year I went to a white salon and got a blow out. OMG!!!! I actually sat there and let that white woman only use shampoo in my hair (no conditioner) Then pull my hair tight with that brush and blow dryer. I had so much breakage after that and I still had to go home and flat iron because it was frizzy. I knew better than that! I am so thankful to God that I found this forum because I have learned to do my own hair and I can honestly say that my hair is growing and I can see it everyday! I would at one time think my hair wasn't or couldn't grow because my stylist would always say "you need those layers cleaned up.) She kept them clean alright! The support of you guys and this forum has given me new courage to say "Hell-ta-da-no You will not!" I have worked to hard to get to my current length and health and I'll be John Brown if I let someone ruin my hard work and success!
