The smell is soft like an oil, I know it's green, I can't really describe the smell to well. I know it smells really good. I'll go buy some tomorrow and let you know if noone else helps.

So Britt, do you know a grease that's good for this too?
Nope, I don't. Most greases seem pretty heavy. I would probably opt for an herbal oil if u want to put something on your scalp.

Tishee, it has like a fresh herbal scent to it when you put it in your hair. When you smell it from the jar, it may smell a little different than when you apply it to your hair and scalp. It sure does smell good though ;)

Britt thanks! Hopefully, the BSS(s) in my area will have some.

Tishee, IMO it smells very similar to Blue Magic. I've always wondered why people think it smells so good - it smells like grease to me.

Oglorious1, there's no petroleum in Nature's Blessing - where did you see that? But, there is mineral jelly, which I believe is basically the same thing as mineral oil.

I really like Kuumba Hair and Scalp Conditioner by Praises Enterprises but it's so hard to find. I usually get it from the African Festivals during the summer. Comes in different scents that smell gooooood!!

Ingredients: Expeller pressed olive oil, african shea butter, pure beeswax, select herbs, natural henna, indian hemp, rosemary, essential oil, vitamin e oil.

Nature's Blessings

Proline Hair Food

Proline Coconut Hair Food

Hemp 'grease'?- the top was brown and the jar was clear, the hemp was visible in the grease which was colored brown.

Those are good ones, but Nature's Blessings #1- smells like heaven and it's GOOD!!

Mineral oil and petroleum are in the same family, I knew it was petroleum, when my head started itching...when those folks said it was all natural, I'm like ..all natural my FOOT!!!

Would anyone consider Carol's Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey as a grease? I love this and I definitely love the smell. It smells like peaches/pear.

My favorite brands of grease are:

-Allways Indian Hemp
-Allways Super Gro
-Sulfur 8 (yellow jar)

I like the convenience of oils since I can apply to my scalp with an applicator tip...grease gets stuck under my nails while I'm trying to apply it-I still like grease every now and then though.:)

Another fan of Nature's blessings here!

$29.99 seems a little high for 6 jars, but I guess if you cannot get hold of it locally, this may be your best bet to stock up.

I guess you are right - that is a little high. Especially since I just got 10 jars on ebay for less than $25 including shipping.

My mom and I both use it and we put it on my niece so 10 jars will last us a pretty long time.

People are still using grease. I thought grease clogged our hair. I thought I got this sentiment from the board.

I think people are using what works BEST for them. I don't use petroleum products much myself, but what the heck, we've been using for years and if you still like it, go for it. Most of us grew up on it, and before relaxers were introduced, I think many of us had healthy heads of hair growing up using grease. My personal stance is if you are going to use petroleum and mineral oil products, make sure you wash regularly with a good and non stripping shampoo to "prevent" build up and use as good conditioner to maintain the hairs health.

I also have seen some beautiful heads of hair on this board and the owners are regular users of Grease. While the claims about petroleum products may be true, they may not be the best for our hair, the can cause build up, etc...I do think we've kind of made a bigger deal about how harmful it is than it really is.

I use it on my edges. I can't seem to get them to lay down the way I like until I put grease on first. I use oil on my scalp, though.

Of course people should use what works BEST for them. I simply posed a question because I thought from my years of being here that many members don't use grease. It was surprising to see so many reponses to a thread about the best hair grease. Just curious to see other member's responses.

Yeah, I am like you. I thought that, for the most part, everyone here thinks grease is evil. But, I admit I use it less than I used to. I could not live without grease in the past. Now I use oils because of the reason you mentioned - apparently it clogs pores. I don't know about that, but oils do seem to be less heavy so that's why I slacked up on the grease. Anyway, I do think some of the things on this board are pretty trendy, though. I love keeping my edges moist and nice with grease!

Tried the Nature's Blessing after trying to find it, that stuff has petroleum..we're talkin' the stuff that's "banned" on here, how do I know...for one, I'm allergic to petroleum and mineral oil...the day I put that stuff on, was the day I was itchin' like mad, my scalp burned so bad, I couldn't wash it fast enough...try some of Asha's stuff.

Locfreeme and Oglorious1 - You all were right. Here's a definition of mineral jelly. I just got a jar from my aunt and she loves it. I'll see how it works for me.

Mineral Jelly: A semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum; used in medicinal ointments and for lubrication

hi, im a natural 4a. my hair gets really tangled if i dont wash daily. like now! i know using grease is bad and clogs up pores but i remember some good ones. i used allways......and it had hemp and stuff in it and it smelled nice. is there anything better than that? im looking for something natural....not somehting like blue magic.... :look: if i dont find anything, i can always go back to allways. oh btw, which is the best allways grease?

I have a couple of favourite my all-time one being B&B SUPER GROWTH with the red cap by Bronner Bros. My husband's sister Linda used it to grow her hair long as well. she would grease her scalp with it. thats my favourite. but in my staples for 2 years i used on myself and my husband Hollywood castor grease and also the super growth one with all the herbs. I also like the minoval grease orange. I also like the Motions one its the best ever smelling grease i ever found they used it one day to braid my hair and i had to do a double turn on the low to see where that smell was coming from. a grease that finally makes the hair smell good ahha:grin:

oh i heard about the natures blessings i was at the salon looking for a grease. the lady doing my cornrows on 116th showed me this one and the ingredients were nice i was supposed to come back get it but forgot all about it. but i want to try it as well but i dont know. i mostly use grease on my scalp and roots and put oil on the hair
