Starting Over..

Well, after a little over a year of growing my hair out
for the first time.. its gone.
I thought I'd create a shortcut for myself by going to the same
shop that put my Kinky Twists in- to take them out.
(I talked about this in a previous post)
Needless to say, the woman cut off a large majority of my hair
thus making me having to cut it significantly short than it was.
Devastating to say the least.

Now Im at a position where I can either get it braided back up- :nono: to kind
of alliviate some of the depression of losing so much hard earned hair lol

or start all over on my health hair journey..

What would you all suggest?:ohwell:

Get the braids. Especially if you know your going to be depressed over the constant reminder of your loss. I'm so sorry to hear this.

ITA with everyone else. Braid it up and leave it alone. The braids will distract you for a while so it can grow back out. HHG:) !

I say braid it also. It will give you a break and when you take it down you should notice a difference in your length.

Like these ladies already suggested, braid it up! It'll grow back before you know it just make sure you take it out urself next time.

When I got my hair cut off by a SHS, I got a sew-in so I wouldn't have to think about how long my hair really was. I'd definitely recommend getting the braids. I'd also recommend NOT going back to that shop to get them put in, but that's your choice.

Sorry this happenned but I dont understand how alot of you guys r getting inches hacked off. Unless the end of the braid is burned ar the end u dont need scissors at all. And if the end is burned u just cut off that tip.

Goal:Hip length stretched
Braid it back up if you are going to be depressed about it, make sure the length of the braids are at least 3 inches longer than your own hair and take the braids out yourself next time. That way when you cut the braid to undo, there is no risk of wacking off your own hair in the process, you have at least three inches to play with. Well that's how I always did my undos, never cut any of my hair.

@keelioness To save time unbraiding I usually cut to where my hair is and then I only have to undo that portion. if you aren't paying attention or the braids are the same colour as your hair and you can't tell the difference, I can see how people would end up cutting their own hair off.

*jumps on bandwagon* Braid it up...and forget about it for 2 or 3 months.
That way, when you take it out, you'll see all the growth you accomplished!

Been there.......

I went from nearly BSL to twa... I just chopped it all off in march and started all over.. Iron deficiency was my issue so it was more internal than external... But u know what, I was sad at first but then I said it's a fresh start.. Now I am rocking braids to get over the hump which help me stretch my relaxers to 20 weeks, I usually go 12 weeks post.. So far so good.

I'd highly suggest that you go to an AA braider to have your hair done. I SWEAR I DON'T KNOW WHY "WE" KEEP GOING TO THE (whack azd')TRACTION ALOPECIA QUEENS (shops), AND EXPECT TO SEE PROGRESS!

Your hair and time is an INVESTMENT, so pay the AA's the additional $, mostly likely when it's all over with you'll still have your hair.

I agree. Braid it up, and if you have to take the braids out yourself. I know it takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R, but its worth not getting your hair chopped.

I would definitely braid it up if I were you. I did my own extensions and even though I only had them in for 4 weeks, I saw noticeable growth, especially in my slow growing area. And take them out yourself. It takes forever, but I bet you will be 10 times more careful if you're cutting your own braids than someone who is trying to get it done before their next appointment.

Let me explain this, coz I'm sure others may have the same question. What happens is, if you have limited time to take down your hair, you pay a braider to do it. She is SUPPOSED to cut the braid up to where your REAL hair stops. This makes the hair take down faster because there's no point in taking down fake hair that's not braided into your real hair.

The braider that you pay knows you can't see what she's doing. If she has other clients waiting, she wants to get done faster, so she cheats and cuts off 4 or 5 inches of you hair. She has you turned away from the mirror. You don't know she's cutting your actual hair until she's done but by then it's too late.

I really appreciate ALL your feedback ladies.

I have decided to get it braided again. Ive struggled with self confidence issues, and I think this will just be another hindrance for me.

:bighug: Not that it's much of a consolation right now, but you do have the knowledge of how to care for your hair at this time. IA with the others. Braid it up and when you take it down you will be able to see your progress and feel better.

UPDATE:

Well ladies, it's been a little over a month since my unplanned "big chop" I got from the
African woman at a shop I will never go back too. In someways, I'm grateful she started me over again unbeknownst to me, of course. I have the opportunity to take better care if my hair now- and my dreadful highlights have grown out! Yay! So I say to any woman who is faced w/ a similar setback: embrace it!
