My almost 2 year old son has 2 bald spots. My mil usually braids my son's har. I think she braided his hair too tight . I am so upset after I told her not to braid his hair too tight. She usually listens. What do I do? Keep in mind he is only 2 almost. tia

That's what I was thinking about doing. My other son is also in braids and he is 3, but his hair is midback. I haven't seen any bald spots in his head. It is just frustrating Thanks .

Whatever you do... I would not recommend any hair treatments with harsh chemicals. At that age their hair is comparable to their teeth; the mature/permanent ones are not in yet. He still has baby hair and it is more fragile than the mature hair that will grow in as he ages.

If you decide you don't want to cut his hair, lay off the braids for a while. Or make sure the braids are done much looser next time. His hair will grow back.

IMO. I would stop the braiding immediately. Try giving his scalp a rest for several months. Or you could try twisting his hair instead.

Are u sure the bald spots are from the braiding? You might want to be sure that it isnt something else like ring worm or something... If its the braids then I agree with everyone else... Just stop braiding for awhile and it will grow back...

Are the spots perfect circles? My son had a fungus in his head a year or so ago that made 2 circles. It is kinda like ring worm but a little different. Supposedly it came from being aroung a dog that had the same fungus or similiar. You need to take him to the doctor....

see i'm on the ring worm/fungus trail whenever i hear about kids having a bald spot thats where my thinking goes. sounds wierd but you can put monistat cream or jock itch cream on the spots if they are ring worm or another fungus

if its not fungus i say if you like him having longer hair dont cut it just make sure the braids arent too tight

My son had to take medication and I had to use some prescription cream. The doctor said he was glad I brought him in when I did cause letting it go to long the fungus or infection could spread to the spine.

What your doctor said makes me want to know more. What were your son's symptoms? Was the skin on the bald spot bumpy or prickly? Or was it smooth like the rest of his skin and the only thing different was the baldness?

I'm a mom too and I just want to know what to look for just in case.

The spots were pretty much smooth...my son did scratch at them so there may have been little bumps there as well. They were like the size of quarters or even bigger. He still gets little ones in his head from time to time after he gets his hair cut..the doctor said he might get them for awhile..They are morel like dry, white patches....I put oil on them and they seem to go away. He had to take that medicine for 3 months or so. At first his dumb daddy wouldn't stop letting him be around the dog even after I told him what the doctor said.
